Tortelier - so influenceable on me as a British cellist in the late 70's.His schumman and greid Sonatas are yet to be surpassed, for passion, sound, clarity and pure communication to an audience.

Couldn't agree more. Feuermann was the greatest but Tortelier remains my favourite.

Some part of me pities his children. I can't help it. I understand that their father's drive and talent and perfectionism lead to their being consumate musicians, but part of me wonders if they were beaten down.
