What a beautiful tip at the end: "No matter how serious you are about your instrument, keep the fun in it, as best as you can, cause that's what people relate to when you play" thank you Larnell!

Man that hit me too when I heard that. Finding it hard to do at the moment. I love it in the practice room 😅 and experimenting / learning and things but I struggle to find people who appreciate and play similar genres. Slowly trying to see how I can weave bits of my own voice into whatever genre I play tho 👍

There *might* be other, better drummers out there, but for my money, Larnell Lewis is the best drummer on the planet. For chops, technique, musicality, style, substance -- this guy SAYS SOMETHING with his drumming. I could listen to him play with anyone, on any kind of music.

+sttommore "Better" is subjective. Larnell and Sput are incredible and I love to watch them both.

you came here probably from the Snarky Puppy live studio sessions, right? Anyway.. he's a beast and in the whole live session I actually heard only one "mistake".. he was a bit too fast on the 1.. and to put this tiny hickup in relation to the whole performance: he's a crazy bad ass! :)

Went through a lot of videos to get to a drummer with as unique, artistic and creative an aura around their drumming as Larnell... that was a weird sentence. But he's awesome...
@cvblaylock7 жыл бұрын
What five losers disliked this video? Any of you this comment section? If you are get the fuck out of here. That kit sounds glorious and his drumming is inspiring. The way he describes how started then to how he pushes himself to learn something to have for his style of play. This video is damn good and I wish I played like that. Time for practice boys and girls.

What is doing with the hi hat at the very end? Did he place the stick between the two cymbal pull away while closing the hi hats? Sounded great with the snare mimicking a delay effect... Such a tasty drummer!

If you're taking about 4:20, [edit] I don't know, I tried whatever I suggested previously and it didn't work. :P

He is dragging (sliding) the stick along the edge of the hi hats. Like you would bow a violin. With a little practice this can be done on other cymbals and even rims for some cool reverse reverb effects.

***** Thanks man. I too wracked my brain cells trying to figure this out.

PenguinMcDuck I actually tried it out today while giving a lesson to a student. It turned into a lesson on why one should practice a technique before throwing it in "willy nilly" into grooves! lol
