Hi Dave, I looked at your radio station and I found a couple of things which turned me off. 1. There were only 5 songs/conversations available although in your video you seemed to upload more. 2. I was unable to start from the start. I guess that is the way that a radio works. I didn't spend a long time, but I was interested to figure if it would fit in with my programme instead of considering a podcast. I did grow up with radio as the only option and I had ideas that I could do some audio for my students who could dial in on something they were interested and start from the beginning. Thanks for all your efforts, they are appreciated.

Hi Yardahstud. On demand is an option too. It's demonstrated in the video. All of the files I uploaded are playing on the station. Thanks for commenting.

Icecast and shoutcast. Don't know if they are still around, i had a station back then. It was also free. Pretty sure they are using the same tech just taking advantage of the fact people don't know about it and definitely a better user experience compared to what i used back then
@dave-swift4 ай бұрын
Yes, it's running an Icecast server, no doubt about that. After creating this video I dug deeper and I think this a modified version of Azuracast. Still of value since they handle the hosting costs and technical setup.

@@dave-swift True! I don't know if personal radio stations would ever be a thing but it's good to see people are still building tools in that space. I was working on an app back then but I just knew it would be impossible to market. Wish them luck!

Oh, Internet radio is definitely a thing! It's not huge, but I listen to it fairly frequently for live podcasts, breaking news, etc.

Do you need a copyright license?
@dave-swift4 ай бұрын
When addressing questions about copyright licenses for online radio stations or streaming services, it's important to note that I can't provide specific legal advice. The need for copyright licenses can vary depending on the content being streamed, the jurisdiction, and the specific use case. Generally, if you're planning to broadcast copyrighted material, proper licensing is typically required. However, for detailed information on licensing requirements for your particular situation, it's best to consult with a legal professional who specializes in copyright law and music licensing. They can provide guidance tailored to your specific circumstances and ensure compliance with relevant regulations.

👍 "platforms you control" is severely undervalued.

I have a hard time relating to anyone wanting to listen in a NOT "on demand" way haha. But apparently somebody still does that.
@dave-swift4 ай бұрын
Yeah, some people want to turn something on and not think. I get that, but don't do it often. Live events are still a thing! I think producing podcasts live are a great use case here. A Podcast network I listen to frequently (Relay.fm) does this. It lets the hosts engage with listeners live on air. I think an internet call-in show, (similar to old-school talk radio) could also work and you could monetize it with ads if you had enough listeners. Repurpose later into a podcast or on-demand. X Spaces are a great example of people wanting live audio.

That really sounds like a lot of fun and it is indeed a very interesting idea. However, I think it must be emphasized once again that you need to have the rights to the music, and that's where the problem starts. So I wouldn't play any Michael Jackson, Madonna, or anything like that here, but only self-produced music. And then the product might become uninteresting for many at this point. It's a pity that there is no way to legally play one of the well-known stars through links here, but otherwise a really good review, thank you very much!

Make sure you have all your legal ducks in a row before playing any music that you don’t own the copyright to.
