You cannot do a one sample Z-test without a hypothesized mean. It is the population mean, μ.

@@allydecoy6513 For one-sample test for mean, the hypothesized mean must be given. If you’re comparing two samples, then the hypothesized mean difference will be zero by default, unless otherwise stated.

Why are dummy variables = 0 used?
@joshemman Жыл бұрын
The 0 dummy is used because the Excel function is designed to work with 2 variables. We are tricking Excel to help solve our one-variable problem. If you don't provide a second variable, it won't work. We have to use a value of 0 so the mean and variance are both 0.

Hello Joshua, are you sure that you used the correct values of your sample? Based on your sample I get a z-Score of - 1,25083 and the p-Value for two is 0,211000324. Besides, I also get a different mean (21,943) and not 21,8.
Joshua Emmanuel Thank you very much for your quick answer😊
@michelleisenhour10287 жыл бұрын
So, the data you used in Excel is, in fact, different than the sample data. You have three 25's in the sample data and only two 25's in your Excel data (observation 27 should be 25, but you used 20 in Excel).

What do I do if I have no data other than the mean difference, mean, amount of data or n, standard deviation, and alpha. I have to do this on Excel instead of the formula.
@joshemman7 жыл бұрын
Use =(meandiff/(stdev/sqrt(n)) to calculate Z. If Z is negative, then use =NORMSDIST(Z) to find the p-value. If Z is positive, then use =1- NORMSDIST(Z) to find the p-value. If you're conducting a 2-tailed test, use =2*NORMSDIST(Z) and 2*(1-NORMSDIST(Z)) respectively. "meandiff" equals "(x-bar - mu)".

How to get the hyphotesized mean difference 23?
@williamcattr267 Жыл бұрын
How about demonstrating this with a word problem??? "Some first-time home buyers-especially millennials are raiding their retirement accounts to cover the down payment on a home. An economist is concerned that the percentage of millennials who will dip into their retirement accounts to fund a home now exceeds 20%. He randomly surveys 190 millennials with retirement accounts and finds that 50 are borrowing against them. a. Set up the null and the alternative hypotheses to test the economist's concern. b. Calculate the value of the test statistic and the p-value. c. Determine if the economist's concern is justifiable at α=0.05."
