ProForm Sport RL COSTCO Rowing Machine overview - want a full ProForm Rower review?

This is the proform Sport RL rower, that is simply being called the ProForm rower from costco by many people, and it costs just a tick under $400.
This proform rowing machine is a cheaper alternative to the proform 750r rower that costs well over one thousand dollars. I've made quiet a few highly detailed videos on the Costco Proform Tour de France bike, and i've noticed the costco bike is pretty popular, so I made a trip down to my local costco to take a peak at the similarly priced proform rowing machine.
I was given the opportunity to spend a bit of time on the proform rower at costco in the store and I'm going to show you my initial thoughts and first “test row” on it, and I want to ask if you're interested in me buying this thing, building it, and making a review on it. From what I understand this is the same thing as the sams club proform 550r. This is a cheaper alternative to the proform 750r rower, and also very similar to the proform 550r from sams club.

I actually love this more than I thought I would. Just got it a few days ago and you def feel the burn lol I also really like the ifit class and just wish u didnt have to pay a subscription but other than that, its a great machine

We have this one they are ok for in home, NordicTrack RW200 Rower will not get the same action as a Concept 2 however we bought ours on sale in Canada for 500 dollars. First one was noisy and had a small issue with fraying on strap to handle and one of the foot beds kept dropping when we tried to size it. Took it back for exchange with no issues and the new one works fine. I did buy a concept 2 handle and attached it instead of old handle. We bought it during first lock down in April and we still use it but we are also back at the gym where there is a concept 2.

Oh also.... If you are not interested in using these features hold down the Bluetooth or iFit button for 30 seconds to bypass the iFit activation. This puts it in manual mode where you can make your own choices or use the on-board workouts.

As a former collegiate rower, I’d like to know how this compares to the Concept II. This IS very quiet, a huge plus as I did a quick test at Costco myself. But I’d need to do a workout to know how this compares 👍

Lori to be honest I dont think you'd be impressed at your athletic level, there is quiet a bit of "slack" in the rope and the way the resistance comes on isnt realistic. At your abilities I think you would be better served with a higher end machine.

If you buy one please measure calories burned 30 mins cycling vs rowing machine. At first glance the main strap isn’t thick enough for my liking.

I've been using this machine for 2 week, just about everyday and loving it so far. I get a great workout and the ifit app keeps me engaged. You can use the rower without the membership though I think the app adds a lot of value for. I'm following a trainer who was a 2x Olympic Gold metalist so he knows what he's doing

I have a brand new Garmin heart rate strap and my phone can't connect at the same time. I got a brand new rower from Costco and the instructions say you can connect BOTH your heart rate strap and your phone to the rower (page 19), but it disconnects my phone everytime. single. time. Called iFIT support and they said the antenna must be bad so they sent me a brand new console/screen. I set it up again and the exact same exact problem occurred again. I guess I'll just have to forgo the heart rate strap.

How does a $400 rower compare to its close to $1000 sister 750r? What compromises are there to save $600 ? SAME Question on Proform bikes. The one sold direct by Proform is $1000 but other than built in monitor & having 22 vs 16 levels of resistance what more are you getting for the extra $600. Also I spoke with Ifit customer support and your one year of iFit with the bike is stackable with the one year from the rower . So for less than $800 you would have a bike & rower with 2 years of Ifit ....compare that to your Peloton plus for $2500 & another $40/mo ($960 for 2 years ) for $3460 for 2 year cost for only a Bike ! The proform bike/rower combo would save you $2675 over the same 2 years ! Is the Peloton Plus its classes that much better than the Proform/ Ifit combo !

Took about 40 mins to an hour to set it up. The Frame is solid but the screen is flimsy. Very cheap. Did not know that it requires a plug-in, so that’s a downfall. The unit DID NOT TURN ON. It was a pain trying to sign up for ifit and registering the product. I wish it operated like the pro form Tour de France cycle. This requires electrical power. I mean you can use it without adding resistance, but what’s the point. It would have been better if there were push buttons instead of the buttons it comes with or lack thereof. I will be returning this item. Technology is awful. The rowing aspect is great. Back to the waitlist I go for the Concept 2.

Liked your detailed bike reviews so rower reviews would definitely be appreciated. Rowers also meant to exercise 84% of muscle groups so very good all-round training. One item worth reviewing also is whether foot plates are close together & force your feet in a forward facing position only. I've tried the Concept2 & WaterRower & both failed this test - were too close & forced forward positioning - & were not bought because of this as my feet naturally turn out & it makes this very uncomfortable. Having a beer belly (even though mine is moderate) can also really be affected by the foot & row bar position to make rowing uncomfortable. But can see this would not affect yourself or perhaps most. Interestingly most of the cheaper rowers have oversized more widely spaced footplates probably to allow for us less athletic types whereas the 'top' rated rowers often don't.

I didn't even think about any of these points while at costco and I have never rowed too much, it's always been one of those exercises I wish I did more of, it's hard work and probably makes a lot of sense to row as well as cycle considering the amount of muscle groups it works in comparison

I picked up the Costco rower last weekend. You need an ifit membership to unlock it. Basic iFit is free for 30 days but the Costco rower comes with one year free. Regardless once it's unlocked if you don't continue with iFit you can still use the manual controls

Just like the ProForm 750R but buyer beware. I've had the 750R for less than 3 weeks and I had to get the console replaced already. 3-4 before it ships. Hopefully the new console fixes the issue because I want to actually use the Rower I paid $600 for.
