ProForm Tour de France cbc REVIEW - Costco Bike is the same as ProForm Sport CX Sams Club bike!

Bought this bike in early December and have been using it daily since then. I am overall very satisfied with the purchase. I do not use the Ifit app. The only metrics that I am concerned with are what I can control manually i.e. resistance level. I pedal for time and have the pedal cadence displayed during the ride. I’m at an age (72) where I am more comfortable doing my own workouts rather than following an instructor. I warmup at about a 70-75 pedal cadence and finish at about 90-95. I have found some great indoor cycling vids on KZbin which I play on my tablet and cast to a big screen TV. The only issue I had with it was a slight knocking sound at high rpm’s. I realized it was coming from the seat post which I had set near the max height. I lowered it a notch and the noise abated.

Tires are both a little soft so it needs air before I ride it. The rear wheel didn't come with a clamp regular bolts hold it on. The front had the clamp. No scratches out of box. Rims are a little off with a slight wobble. They could have spent more time with the spoke tool fixing the run out. So far out of the box I'm happy with it. I did replace the pedals with a nice aftermarket set. After riding it a bit my A$$ is a bit sore so I ordered another seat. Overall I'm nearly 60 and didn't ride a bike in 30 years. I like my new 29" Schwinn. It will be used for casual rides with my friend.

I purchased one from Costco in Nov 2020 and ended up returning it because (i) I felt a "hiccup" on the left pedal side at high resistance levels (ii) the right pedal was slipping out, and (iii) screws for display bar didn't fit properly and wobbled. Purchased a second one a few weeks ago and it performs much better! No hiccup, no gimpy pedals and no wobbly parts. As much as I'd love to own a Keiser M3i, having the peace of mind of buying good-enough new from Costco beats paying 5x more for or risking a refurbished second hand Keiser....thanks Costco! Also, I'm 5'1" and am able to ride this relatively comfortably.

Thank you for the review. I purchased one of these from Costco today. Mine came with the plastic piece and fit fine. I already have a Nordic track treadmill and we like the iFit package. We have a family plan and renewed during Black Friday for $19 a month or $228 a year. I was able to enter the code they came with this bike and it extended my next payment out 1 year. So the $385 Costco price drops to $157 as we planned to keep buying iFit for our other equipment. At $157 I really can’t complain about this bike. Thanks again for the video review.

Snagged one of these from a Costco liquidation truck for just $75! (they are $399 new now) It is a customer-returned model and is basically in like-new condition. Found you can buy 1 year iFit memberships on eBay for around $100. Can't get much better than that. I am 6'3" and I agree its stance is rather aggressive but I have been able to prop up the front of the bike with a 2x4 to make it slightly "uphill" and made it far more comfortable to ride. Changed out the pedals to some better ones and may swap the seat over time. I will be doing your mod to increase the max resistance as well. I appreciate your videos!

I have some notes about this bike. I'm a 20+ year cyclist and 6'1". My big complaint about fitment is the seat setback is insane. Even when you have the horizontal seat adjustment slid as far forward as possible, the seat set back from the bottom bracket is still a good two inches more than most road bikes. The handlebar reach is also pretty far with zero reach adjustment; it doesn't bother me as I ride a really aggressive road bike setup, but I know it would bother many others and give them neck/shoulder strain if they do prolonged seated riding. The one inch incremental adjustments are also not ideal, as I tend to land between two sizes. The really weird resistance/tablet setup seems intentional. Pro-form and iFit are both owned by the same parent company (Icon Fitness). They probably intentionally hid the resistance adjustment behind the tablet mount so that most users would have to stay/buy an iFit subscription to avoid the inconvenience of resistance adjustment and removing their tablet every time they wanted to adjust the resistance. Speaking of resistance, resistance levels 1-10 are basically useless out of the box for any experienced/heavier rider. Modifying the resistance adjustment is almost a necessity. There's also another version of this model called the Sport CX, which is sold at Sam's Club for $399. It's basically an identical bike, sans the Tour de France branding. A couple more complaints are the seat and handlebar bushing. I've ridden dozens of seats and this is by far one of the worst. The handlebar bushing is also really sloppy, regardless of how tight you make it. The handlebar rocking drives my OCD crazy. Value for money, though, having magnetic adjustment for this price is really hard to beat. The bike is also incredibly quiet, in fact very quiet, and the drivetrain is surprisingly smooth. For the price I cannot complain, despite some of its faults.

The Costco ProForm Tour De France listed dimensions (fully assembled, the footprint is 57” L x22” W) differ from the Sport CX. The Sport CX has the same dimensions as the Carbon CX (21.9” Width x 52.5” Depth x 51” Height).

I just got this bike this week after watching your review. There are two quality issues I've noticed with this bike. One is really bad in that the computer did not work out of the box, the other is more of a general QA annoyance. The computer on this bike was not working at all after I got it assembled. When I called support they though it was the reed switch and were going to send me a new one. I started trouble shooting things one by one with a multimeter starting with the reed switch, which tested fine. I then tested shorting the two reed switch wires on the computer's wiring harness and it registered the simulated rotations. I then started going to each wiring harness one by one to test where the connection was getting lost since there are a few of them. It turned out one of the leads on one of the wiring harnesses was not snapped all the way in on so the reed switch was not registering rotations. I just took some small pliers and gently pulled on the pin till I heard a click. After reconnecting it everything was good to go. My other quality gripe is that the computer/tablet hold is not level by 2-3 degrees. It is enough to be quite noticeable especially when using my ipad with the ifit app. I can't find any adjustment for this, so I think it's that the screw holes to mount the arm are not in the right spot. I may try drilling them out on the tablet side to get a enough play to make it level. Overall it's not a bad bike. The fact that it was DOA out of the box is pretty bad though. Clearly their QA department doesn't check these before shipping. My other gripe is that the seat is not very comfortable. Definitely a lot more painful than my cheap road bike seat. I will probably get a gel cover for it. I'm not a hardcore biker though. Just occasional commuting on my road bike. This is my first fitness bike. Really though, for the money, it's still a pretty good deal. Just the iFit membership that's included is a 1 year family plan which would cost $396 alone at $33 per month. So you could think of it as buying iFit and getting a free bike. If you only need the individual membership, the savings won't be as big.

Just bought this bike a month ago and works great price is also very good, except the resistance on low levels, even with the boost adjustment I barely can FEA any resistance until I get level 8-10, so when using iFit and the trainer says “ I am adding resistance” and move from 2 to 3 sounds for me as a joke. Is it only me?? Other than that if you move manually and work from 10 to 14 then works great for me. Can any one has the same issue.

I'm 5'6" and it's a little stretched out for me so most of my ride my hands are rested on my legs, unless I'm standing. The seat is horrible so I added two terry clothes for extra cushion. The buttons are a little flimsy and after 3wks of regular 90min rides the Display button is starting to stick. For the price it's a good bike but I highly doubt it's going to last as long as my Proform treadmill (15yr).

I returned this bike. After a few weeks of riding, it was making a lot of noise. I thought the flywheel needed an adjustment but it was in the bearings. I’m 5’4” I used to attend spin classes regularly and used a road bike. I felt the handlebar position was uncomfortable but I could get used to it if needed. The real problem for me was the seat. After the initial break in period I was having issues with numbness, I’ve never experienced this before. It could be user error though. Another issue is the depth for an iPad or iPhone. My phone has a thin case but I was still not able to rest it in the lip. I had to use an attachment to hold my iPhone. Also I kept knocking my water bottle off the center cup holder. The cup holder would work for a larger cup I suppose but a regular water bottle kept falling out. I had to order another water bottle holder. I didn’t like the pedals and was going to replace them when the bearings had issues. I don’t want to buy a Peleton right now, so I’m trying to find a reliable quiet bike.

Finally got the Sam’s club bike yesterday. Assembled it last night- took about 1.5 hours, but easy to assemble. Took 20 min just to unpack it. No parts missing and only 1 minor defect that I noticed so far. One of the screws for the water bottle caged doesn’t catch. Still usable, just made the other screw really tight. Explored ifit and took my first ride this morning. Went with an easy one since I haven’t ridden in years, but I found it a little too easy. Nice scenery in Glacier National Park though. Enjoyed it. Looking forward to more rides, may even do a second ride today.

I don’t know if anyone else has had the same problem with this bike, but I am having to replace the batteries for the display screen every other day! The screen has never been bright (fades in and out a lot) but after a day or so, it’s dead and since the display controls the resistance, I need to replace them in order to do a proper ride. As a side note, I have only done rides using the peloton app, so I use my iPad and have to adjust resistance manually. Does this model sync to the resistance of the teacher if you use the streaming platform that comes with it? I have yet to figure that part out! I’m glad I found your reviews and I’m going to watch more of them as I am very tempted to return this model and upgrade for something else. I’m spending so much money in batteries, it’s not worth the savings on the cost of the bike!

Yes, the resistance syncs to the trainer. I have the ProForm rowing machine, also from Costco, and both the rower and the bike will adjust resistance automatically based on the trainer's resistance when using the iFit app (they both come with a 1-year subscription to iFit). You can also switch to adjusting resistance in the app. When you do, a "Follow trainer" button appears on screen and you can easily switch back to syncing with the trainer. Love the rowing machine and plan on getting the bike (just as soon as they're back in stock at Costco)!

I just picked up the CBC yesterday, spent about 1.5 hrs putting it together, only to find out that my wife has hard time using it. She is barely 5-feet and cannot comfortably reach the paddles. I have the handles and the seat at the lowest position and the seat moved to the most forward position as well. I don't think this is meant for people under 5-6.

@@2675142 No, it was a ProForm CBC Tour de France model. Our local gym has Peleton and my wife is comfortable using those, no problem. I think the Tour de France model is not for short stature folks, can's say anything about other ProForm models. Didn't find exact seat/handle specs on the site or manual. YMMV.

I think it is almost exactly the same. It has brackets behind the seat to hold two weights (included).

Concerning it not shutting off automatically...if the iFit app is still running it will not shut off,, therefore when done with your session close out the app and it will shut down on its own.

This didn't work for me, I'm assuming because the iPad & bike were still connected via bluetooth, even though I closed the app. Once I shut off the iPad the display on the bike turned off. Since having to shut the iPad down is a pain, I'm going to try just disconnecting the bike from the iPad in the bluetooth settings tonight and see if that works.

So I'm not sure what was going on before, but I have confirmed after several controlled tests that Aaron is correct...as long as the app is open the bike's display stays on (and runs down the battery) close the app and it turns off after a few minutes!

What’s the difference between the ProForm 500 SPX and the “Costco” ProForm bike that you are reviewing?

It's hard to tell exactly from the description online, but 2 major differences I can tell is that the 500 SPX is a lower quality bike (lots of complaints about looseness and squeaking parts), and the biggest difference is that it has a manual resistance adjustment that has a felt or leather pad that pushes against the flywheel as you turn the knob, whereas the Tour De France uses a automatic magnetic resistance. What that means is that as the trainer in the app raises or lowers the resistance, the 500 SPX won't change, you have to do it manually, and the Tour De France changes resistance automatically.

Have you ridden and can you comment on the ProForm Studio Bikes? I watched about 5 hours of your reviews yesterday. ProForm makes a bike called the Studio Bike. They make two version of this, one with a 10" screen and one with a 22" screen. I think that the ProForm Studio Bikes are supposed to be closer to the NordicTrack bikes rather than the ProForm CBC, specifically on the resistance which the CBC is lacking (unless you use your hack). I would love your thoughts!

FEEDBACK on the handlebars. Have been using it for 3 weeks and I don't like the inability to raise & adjust the handlebars more. I believe you should be able to raise the seat and handlebars so they are both parallel to the ground (i.e., you can raise the seat higher than you can the handlebars...which isn't great). I'm 6'0" tall.

I had the same concern because the handlebars were just too low for my liking (I'm 6' 4"). Upon inspecting the handlebar tube (where the adjustment holes are) I noticed a lot of room between the last hole and the bottom of the tube. I drilled a new hole at the bottom and it made a WORLD of difference for me. There's enough room to drill a couple of holes if you need to, but I just drilled as close to the bottom as I could (while still leaving a little room for stability reasons) since I knew I wanted the handlebars to be as high as possible.

you said the maximum resistance is on the low side. what is the approximate power at maximum resistance at 90 rpm?

i wouldnt trust the power metrics on this bike, i modified my max resistance too so i think my metrics are completely wrong for sure now. compared to peloton bike, id estimate based on memory this proform would equate to about 40% resistance on peloton bike+. most of my cheaper bikes are more along the lines of max resistance = 50-60% of peloton bike+

@@TailHappyTV this is a good point for anyone interested in Zwift. if it was compatible to zwift the power range is not enough to do any sprinting intervals. I use zwift with my Tacx trainer and trek Madone. this bike is for anyone that wants to achieve some fitness or a starter stationary bike for $400. After 12 months if it doesn't turn into a place to hang clothes then buy a high end bike. no need to waste $4,000 and $50 per month to realize you rather do outdoor cycling 8 months per year.
