White Friday occurred during the Italian Front of World War I, when an avalanche struck Austro-Hungarian barracks on Mount Marmolada (Blood Mountain), killing 270 soldiers. Other avalanches the same day struck Italian and other Austro-Hungarian positions, killing hundreds. According to some reports both sides deliberately fired shells into the weakened snowpacks in an attempt to bury the other side. An accurate estimation of the number of casualties from the White Friday avalanches is not available. Historical documents suggest at least 2,000 victims among the soldiers and a few dozens among civilians. The date 13 December, marked Saint Lucia, a commemorative religious holiday practiced by the majority of Italian Catholics. Though the occurrence of avalanches in the Dolomites Mountains took place on a Wednesday in 1916, the term "White Friday" was used to coin the disastrous day. (Wikipedia) Most of the bodies have never been recovered that's why he said he will be there forever.

The avalanches happened in 1916 near the mount Marmolada, on the italian-austrian front. A new avalanche occured recently on the same mountain, again burying people.

Unfortunately the Blood Mountain claimed its price again just yesterday: because of global warming, an huge chunk of ice (200x60x80 meters) fell off of the glacier and became an high-speed avalanche. At present day 8 injured (2 in critical conditions), 8 deaths (only 4 recognizable) and 13 to 15 people still missing... Alpine rescuers in shock because of what they found after that ice and rocks meat grinder stopped, families destroyed by grief and not knowing IF EVER they will have their beloved ones back to give them a proper burial... May they rest in peace.😢🙏🕯 ✝️🇮🇹🛐

Please try Race to the Sea (Belgium stopping the invasion in WW1) and Resist & Bite (Belgian elite corp delaying the blitzkrieg in the ardennes during WW2) The first has an awesome video & catchy rythm, the second is near to my heart because my grandfather was in the "Chasseur Ardenais" (Ardennes Hunter) & even if he wasn't in the small group Sabaton sings about, it's close enough for me :p
