Hey there Mr. Kenney, I just wanted to let you know how valuable your videos are. Your a very clear and engaging teacher, and what you have taught me about Reaper vs what I actually payed $ to learn about in Skillshare makes them look like a joke. For real. YOU need to be the guy teaching Reaper on Skillshare my friend. Keep up the great job!

Just a note for anyone who doesn't know, you can use Ctrl+D to duplicate items immediately after, instead of Ctrl-dragging items like Kenny does at 11:58
@johnkim3257
@johnkim3257 3 жыл бұрын
you can also set the mouse modifier to copy item when left dragging instead of moving it. And set the moving action to shift left drag. I do this, because sometimes accidentally moving items feels so much worse than the convenience of just being able to move it on a drag. Plus the default setting for shift left drag is already set to moving anyways. although it is ignore snap, if you just let go of the shift at any point while still dragging, it will start snapping again. IDK if this is original, or if I learned it from a tutorial, but I definitely have less undo navigating stress with it. :)
@johnkim3257
@johnkim3257 3 жыл бұрын
oh and i almost always notice when i accidentally copy an item with the drag, because itd be in such a weird position. easy to just undo or delete on misdrags. And usually when I want to move an item, i just hit shift briefly and wahlah moves, I only hold the shift when doing fine unsnapping adjustments. I think it beats having to remember to lock tracks all the time or risk a small movement that goes un noticed for like 200 undo points until you playback haha.

Please, could you help me to find how I can address the key velocity to the sample start point? I want to achieve that way to start a sound not from its very start if I hit a key softly, but only when I hit it hard. So, this way I can simulate a drum. Soft hits, soft sounds, not only lower volume sounds. Harder I hit, the sound gets louder and more transients coming out. I am looking for that for some time and no answer so far...

Thanks Kenny, one Q: let say I record MIDI track free tempo piano performance (and not quantize it of course) and I want to convert to audio wav later... How can I assure that the MIDI notes I record are excatly match what I played and Reaper doesnt adjust the recorded MIDI notes for some reason (preferences or anything)...So Basically I want to record what I excatly played and I can change the MIDi notes if I need to

This seems like a lot more work than what I do for this when performing stuff. I record a bar or two, line stuff up to the lines, then copy and paste. If I want to modify the patter/chords/whatever, I just move the MIDI notes where they need to go.
@REAPERMania

If you're lining the original performance up to the grid, you're not doing the same thing though.

@@REAPERMania I see...I guess it's just opposite of what I tend to do, as in I set tempos beforehand and only sometimes using a click to perform the first measure. I dislike quantizing.

Kenny, i have an issue-with the midi tracks that are producing sounds suddenly stop making sound but they show the indicator of input coming through. So what can i do? what do you think? i will put a vst instrument and start playing then after some playing and adding other tracks. arming them and working on another instrument i go back to the previous one and i arm it and produces no sound. thanks a lot for your help.

kenny, im having trouble with my midi item. the notes sounds longer than the midi itself. i figured maybe its the sustain. but how do i turn it off? when i google it, people always said "cc64" but i cant seem to edit the sustain in reaper. unlike velocity control, there are no red rectangle to edit when i changed it to cc64

Great tutorial as always, Kenny! So if I understand correctly, selecting everything and then doing copy/paste to duplicate doesn't automatically include the tempo map for the selected range?

I do not understand the point of this? Is it only to not have to pick a tempo and a click before hand? Seems like a lot of steps to achieve very little
@REAPERMania
@REAPERMania 3 жыл бұрын
No. It's so you don't have to choose a tempo at all. Just play what you want at any speed that sounds good to you and just build a track around that performance.

Very little? If it wasn't two bars, that's how the best records of all time have been recorded before computer age. From Bill Haley to Led Zeppelin, from the Stones to Nirvana, from Hendrix to Marley, jazz and classical included.

If I don't pick a tempo won't I just play to the drums? What's the point of tempo mapping if I don't care what the tempo is. Not trying to be rude just trying to figure out the purpose

@@wellsroadband The FEELING of Zep's songs has a lot to do with tempo fluctuations. Here Kenny show how this can be achieved in Reaper, if you want to add some vst or arrangements after a live take. It's simply a matter of exploiting the best of both worlds. C'mon.
