It's so amazing that you don't have a foreign accent at all when you speak Finnish. In time you'll learn the correct word endings for words.

I started watching your videos because of Suomi-torstai. I'm trying to learn Finnish and the more I listen to anyone speaking Finnish the easier it becomes to pick up the endings of words and all the other tricky bits. It's especially encouraging to see someone who is a native English speaker speaking Finnish because English is my native language as well.

Same.. Some of the Finnish that I was trying to watch on KZbin was just way to fast to follow. This is a great way to ease back into it.

I tried to only speak Finnish to my son when he was young. I realized one day when setting the table with him that I may not be as proficient as I once was ... "Haarukka, lusikka,*long pause* knifie..." :/

Kieltä ei opi kuin sitä käyttämällä, joten on erittäin hieno ajatus omistaa kokonainen päivä kielen käyttämiselle. Kannustan suuresti pitämään yllä suomi-torstaita!

Hyvin sä vedät! 😊 Understandably you probably don’t wanna mess up the language status quo too much at home, so Elton learns the language properly. I’m a bit anxious about what’s gonna happen once we have kids, my BF is Estonian. We currently speak mix, as in both speak their mother tongue at home. But as the languages are so similar, I’m afraid we’re gonna have kids who speak neither of the two properly. I’ve taught at the Finnish School in Tallinn and had kids who couldn’t always make the difference.

Brilliant Luke. It takes a lot of guts to do this but you nailed it. I'm not a Finn and the only way to learn is to speak. It reinforces what you do know and makes you discover how to say things you don't know how to say. Do you use tools? I use Ankidroid. I also read English fiction from the library and listen to the same book in Finnish translation as an audio book. At first listen you don't understand it all. But with patience you understand it all. It expands vocabulary and trains your ear. It does not work so well with original Finnish literature because of word order.

Vaikka päätteet menisivät väärin, niin suomi on silti siitä helppo kieli, että vaikka ei menisi ihan oikein, niin kaikki ymmärtävät kuitenkin :) Siitä suomi on helppo kieli :)

SIIS JUMALAUTA! harvemmin kirjotan koskaan näihin youtube videoihin mitään, mut nyt oli pakko. Itse odotan aina näitä suomi torstai videoita koska jotenki hassua (no offense) kuunneella kun jenkki puhuu suomea :D MUTTA sun suomenkieli on jotain ihan uskomatonta! paranee päivä päivältä joten jatka samaa malliin!

Puhu mahdollisimman paljon suomea videoillasi, mielellään vain ja ainoastaan. Tee vaikka kielen opetusvideoita englanniksi. Mihin suomi-torstai menee? toivottavsti laajemmaksi ja laajemmaksi, aina vain eteenpäin. Tee ihmeessä lisää ja jatka suomi-torstaita ja suomenkielen opettelua tulevaisuudessakin.
