@@WaywardEko Basically like the old days before traders were a thing. When the progression was still all about looting and exploration and actually having to fix up the base after each horde night. Before the entire gameplay became centered around questing and safe corridor horde bases. Gotta love it. This will be the best version of 7dtd in years. I'll probably mod questing out of the game entirely again (except for buried treasure) and turn off loot respawn.

What's a game typically look like? Im on Day 19, Stage 50. Forge, workbench, level 5 scrap armor, level 5 stone tools and weapons. Received thousands of Coal, Wood, Iron as rewards from trader quests, made base building before Day 7. Just recently received a level 3 drill but i can't craft those tools yet. Biggest issue for me has been clean water and antibiotics to fight infection. I've been playing since Alpha 18/19 I think, not super consistent with it, but i do think it's the best zombies survival game out there.

The world generation time is great, but of course, we don't really know if we can expect those kinds of results on mid to lower end pc's. What I would *really* like to see regarding world generation, is geographically accurate biomes. Like... My desert should never lead straight into a winter biome. I get what they're going for, biome difficulty rating, and now traders being specific to biomes, but it would help a lot with immersion.

@@WaywardEko Roland just confirmed on the dev forums that whenever you complete a chain of challenges, you'll receive a unique bonus from the trader, although he hinted that they'd most likely be magazines. Apparently the quality level 1 stone shovel is the reward for completing the primitive set of challenges? He also confirmed that as well as sending you to the nearest Rekt trader, they still give you the first 4 free skill points. :)

The fun of 7DTD is entirely from the sandbox world full of zombies clawing their way in to eat you and your friends. They could throw out the entire progression system in this game, and it would be no worse. The trader should be something they move away from. Going to a god mode NPC in a magically protected area to fetch quests and buy/sell items for currency, so much fun doing that on a loop as your gameplay. And they say now it takes even longer? Fantastic. Players do the quests because they progress your player the fastest, because the game locks not having a bad time behind character & gear progression. It's simple really, players just want to be able to loot without walking slow as fuck, and kill zombies without clicking a million times on the zombies head. It's not that players are so in love with running from the trader to a blinking 3d icon, killing shit and running back. That's the task, not the journey. It's the cleaning your room and doing your homework, before you can play videogames. They don't need to drag that part of the game out. They need to improve the zombies instead of trying to hide the problem with fancy systems nobody wants. All this polish and the game still looks like something from 2005. You could tell someone this is a Battlefield2 mod and they wouldn't bat an eye. Better zombies, better world gen, the rest is nonsense.

Randomly generated, meaningless "stuff to do" is pretty much all the triple A studios can manage in supposed RPGs these days and it's from them TFP are taking all their cues, business and otherwise, trying to draw in players of every game type under the sun. Rick insists 7 Days to Die is (or will be) as much a RPG as a sandbox survival game, yet the trader odd jobs are not "quests," certainly, as quests would require actual questioning and interaction with interesting NPCs in a compelling storyline, but publishers like Bethesda Softworks have normalized the idea that "radiant," real lifetime-wasting, bs "stuff to do" for no reason are adventurous and imagination-engaging "quests." Quite obviously, they're not. But what do I know? I've only played actual RPGs. I'd be impressed if TFP were doing something unique and original and, especially, not relying exclusively on procedural generation, scripting and RNG because it's a decided lack of creative and original thinking and imagination that characterizes the gaming industry today. They could be carving out a unique niche for themselves, but apparently have become caught up in industry bs with the result of 7 Days *feeling* like nothing more than a Rube Goldberg contraption. About the only appeal of 7 Days to me personally at this point is the old school charm with which it's infused along with the amazingly considered, architecturally interesting POIs. The crafting system is victim of feature creep. There's too much stuff to keep up with and organize, the acquisition of stuff being nearly its sole focus as has been the sole focus of Bethesda games of late. Honestly, I think they'd be much better off just leaving it a sandbox in which people can build their sand castles, punch zombies and be done with it until they feed like building a better sand castle and/or punching zombies some more. It's certainly way more fun than being led around by the nose and required to engage in meaningless fluff and stuff for little to no reward. I'd have to agree with many members of the community that they're turning a fun game into a slog of a grindfest and can only imagine it's because they've been at it so long, they can't see the forest for the trees, so to speak. All quantity, no quality is the order of the day in just about every human endeavor imaginable and they appear to be intent on conforming to that order.

@@lrinfi The fact that they're going to make the grind even longer shows how out of touch they are with their own game. They need to take note of what Project Zombiod is doing, they just made a nice sandbox world, with zombies you actually care about. And most importantly, they let the player set all the rules. One of my biggest gripes with 7dtd is the lack of difficulty. Sure, I can put the difficulty slider up all the way, but that just turns the zombies into bullet sponges. It's not difficult to click on a zombies head 20 times, it's just tedious. Don't even get me started on the pathfinding, or lack of. If you put points into jumping higher the game is stupidly easy in just about every situation. They added the spitters, irradiated, birds, and other "special" zombies to make up for these shortcomings. None of them have improved the gameplay what so ever.

@@badmojo420 We can probably thank the triple As for that notion of difficulty as well. Fromsoft games are pretty much the only ones doing combat difficulty right, imo. No difficulty sliders required, though I could do without the target lock-on and camera tricks myself. They surrounded the enemies most capable of killing you with fantasy versions of everything from rats to dragonflies to make locking on target more difficult than it needs to be and refused to zoom out the camera when need be in Elden Ring, for example. Otherwise, though, the combat system relies on time and timing; learning the movesets; and easing into a flow of combat, much like a dance, to defeat the toughest enemies. Once you know a Fromsoft game, turn off the automatic lock-on mechanics and take out those lessor enemies before engaging the tougher, even it's "too easy", but overcoming that learning curve is what bringsplayers a sense of accomplishment along with providing secrets to discover. They know they've actually learned something in the process of playing, essentially the "no mind" philosophy of focus and concentration, eschewing distractions, long established in the Martial Arts. It'd be tricky in a more light-hearted game like 7 Days to increase the combat difficulty *without* going the "increase the numbers" and bullet spongey route. I've no idea how they might pull that off myself. All I know is, the more it becomes a tedious slog, the less interest I have in it.

@@lrinfi There would have to be some serious reworking of zombie mechanics to make it more difficult. This whole mechanic of zombies being "asleep" until you cross a magic line that wakes them all up is not helping the difficulty. You can literally blast away with guns outside the biggest POIs and there's no consequences. In Project Zomboid making lots of noise to dispatch some zombies usually leads to a never ending stream of zombies being attracted to you. It's not that the zombies themselves need to be difficult, but navigating the world infested with zombies shouldn't be so easy. Night time runners & blood moons seem like they were added as a way to get around making the world more dangerous. And both of those game mechanics can be circumvented by standing on top of just about anything and waiting a bit. When they saw that their playerbase was circumventing their "difficult" mechanics by standing out of reach they just ramped up the damage numbers zombies do to structures, but that just means players pick bigger buildings with more supports, nothing changes. I don't know if the solution is better zombie spawning mechanics or just more zombies in general. But there's almost never a time in this game where you have to avoid fighting them. Not to mention they're so loud you can always hear them coming a mile away. This game would be so much better if they made surviving a normal day difficult. Night time and blood moons would be an absolute nightmare, rather than a time to farm kills for xp.

Any word on fixing the vehicle sounds? I hate when the 4X4 sounds like it is maxing out when you're still below 30mph. Also, any word on if stealth will still trigger events in POIs, barring you keep the noise down? I really want a nice stealth build but when some POI's aren't considered complete until you do all the triggered events, it makes stealth feel useless.

Excellent video! I'm genuinely so excited for and relieved about the trader progression finally being addressed. There's going to be some naysayers, but you can't please everyone. Here's hoping the gameplay feels balanced enough without the biome progression overhaul (slated for sometime in the future in the next update), because I don't fancy the forest biome becoming largely "useless" for gear upgrades after the first week - otherwise, I'll be doing some XML editing. As for top tier gear being regulated to crafting only, I'm honestly 50/50 on that proposal - I can see the subjective strengths and weaknesses of each path. I do think at the very least they should be very, very rare in loot pools - walking out of a shotgun messiah with a half-dozen or more quality level 6 items should just objectively never happen, in my opinion. The amount of quality level 6 items, melee weapons you've perked into especially, that show up in loot late-game is almost eye-rolling. The new gyrocopter model is going to take some getting used to - it looks like it shouldn't be able to fly, but then again, if bumblebees can achieve it, I'm sure this hunk a junk critter can as well haha. Trader Rekt being exclusive to the forest (as a part of the biome dependent trader change) makes perfect sense thematically, but goodness me would I be lying if I said I'm looking forward to dealing with that cranky old git guaranteed the start of every standard playthrough. lol I just hope they address the issue of vending machines and trader stock often restocking to contain the exact same items as before, over and over. Edit: WaywardEko, what are your thoughts on this compromise? No-one in their right mind is going to realistically craft a quality level 6 stone axe or pipe shotgun, for example. They'll likely be too expensive at traders, as well. How would you feel if quality level 6 primitive (tech 0) items could still be found in loot, rarely, but quality level 5 becomes the maximum level for any item in categories tech 1-3?

This game, has the most amount of different dungeons (POI's) than any other game i've played. I wouldn't really call tier 1 or 2 as dungeons, but tier 3 and beyond, especially 4 and 5 really do feel like dungeons. And each is so unique and handcrafted. A lot of dungeons in other games feel similar that are copy and paste, but not in this game. Not only that, the crafting is also pretty insane. Combat is a bit behind and would be good if the game had bosses, but that doesn't stop the game from being fun and challenging.

And the new radiated pois as an example an radiated poi with radiated zombies if player is exploring city caches damage when aproaching and ears the radiated machine counter sound. So any player can search any poi with zero radiated damage. And desert buggy with smg attached on roof. One who drives on the front and other on the back the second player operates the smg attached on the vehicle ( copy and paste smg turret movements and fires) also player can add an auto submachine gun witch uses the sensor item in game. The new 3 types of camouflage, because zombies will be more smarter if they see player in day they will print into player, also each type of camouflage is imune of certa in zombies ( camouflage level one wich will decay some time uses clay, fibers and wood doesnt affect feral or stronger zombies like the lumber jack and so....)

seeing how the 4x4 behaves, it doesn't work as a monster truck which what it is, yet can't do offroading, can also say not huge on the new bike using an air plane engine, also the workshop when they drop support for that will fix most of the game's faults. also you can't take a quest as far as I know, if that POI has a land claim block in it, so that POI is supposedly removed from quest lists

he talks about slowing down the progression but personally the only time or with friends we play in a fun way with a good level of progression and not too fast is when we play without using the merchants. This game turns into a looter shooter while everyone who plays wants a game in which farming and looting makes progress.

Crossplay in 1.0 is planned for the first content drop targeted for Q4. The extent will be governed by them getting the certifications with Microsoft and Sony. No details on how servers and number of players will work ... but by the book they have only ever supported 8 player MP.

I'm pissed about the streamer weekend. Most streamers stream during the week, and most people have the weekends off. So watch them play all weekend, and when you go back to work on monday, you can have the game. I have like 18 followers on twitch because i dont do it as a job and im rediculously casual about it, but if i ask for it for streamer weekend they laugh at me and walk away.

They have the UI updates in the roadmap. Character profile just got an overhaul and all zeds are HD texture at this point. $45 still super cheap for a game that gets hundreds to thousands of hours of play typically.

@@WaywardEko Thank's for your reply. I'm not sure... I've only played 50 hrs and I don't see much depth in the game, it's all repetitive. The technology tree has only become artificially stretched, relative to previous versions of the game (judging by reviews and feedback). HD textures can be made by neural network in a couple of hours, now it's not a problem at all. But to improve and add mechanics to the game by changing animations and changing graphics and physics is something that would deserve attention and a 2x price increase. Otherwise, the developers are saying that in year 25 (at the end) we will add small chips to the game, but we will sell for x2 the price now. Judging by the trailer and stream, there are very few changes, but the price is already high.

I'm bothered by the US flags flying at the various POIs. After years of neglect, those flags would be in really bad shape. I hope there a LOT of improvements coming to the animations of basically everything shown in this video.

Everyone plays the game different. No one owns how to approach things ... that being said. They current version doesn't have much of a survival aspect. Resources (even water despite the removal of jars and people losing their Fing minds over it) are plentiful, there is little struggle, and you have mountains of dukes typically. Progression has been broken and crafting has been pointless for at least the last 3 alphas.

@@WaywardEko and survival isn't returning. They're making water even easier, as they've already made changes to make it possible to make water collectors quicker. The armor system is designed for RPG mechanics, rather than survival mechanics. They've added a progressions tab to give people busy-work rather than adding in more survival elements, and the only thing they've done is nerf quest rewards (their own words on the subject), so that they can make progression take longer, not make survival harder. They've not improved survival. they've simply made the grind longer.

One thing I hope comes at some point is more humans in the world. I love the zombie survival aspect but it always feels off that the only humans alive anywhere are the player(s) and the traders.

Yeah that I know but I’m more meaning other non enemy humans. I hope the bandits and zombies will fight each other. But would like to see actual people still running around trying to survive. Small settlements, mission types where you have to go save real people… things like that.

Firstly, I am sooo glad they got their act together for this one, wish I'd turned up to it earlier, but.. yeah. Yay burnt forest again! The random gen overhaul is delightful. I'm gonna need a list of the colours of buildings til I learn them properly haha. Thank goodness for trader reward nerfs. I'm not that keen on having traders be in set biomes tho tbh. 75+ pois ehhh, what happened to hundreds? =P Mmm love the external look of the suites! Do you think the football stadium is only in Navezgane? I can already see Blueridge being a popular poi to take over as a base. So so so glad they didn't go with the toilet seat minibike. Not sure about the motorbike...Yeha the 4x4 is gonna be bad for the city. Esp if your gen does all those weird little nowhere blocks in the cities.It looks good tho. Thanks for the recap Eko!

Fairly certain all the POIs are RWG also. Traders locked to biomes is interesting in that it forces you to move around the map! But yeah - trader nerf is awesome!

I don't think they could pull it off from a performance standpoint. Minecraft has minimal assets to manage vs full POIs w/ props, lights, etc ... basically a density issue.

for me some changes only make the game "steal" your time for things who should be easy to do. I play this game since alpha 0.13 and the water system change was disgusting, you can't play without get thirsty, i made my friend buy this game and he left because of this. @@WaywardEko i played a lot of survival games: day Z, the forest, sons of the forest, valhiem, raft, ark, Green hell... Survival games are my personal choice. A good survival game knows how to reward the player when he overcome but you can't become a slave for small things like make water to drink, in 7 days to die you can't make no more bottles to take water, bro this don't make any sense, even in minecraft you can. Its not fair take 3/4 days to get a water coletor when you have a river close to your house is just a time steal. Mine is a shit too, you can't make a Pickaxe without getting books your buying from the marketing (some times you don't have money our they don't have the pickaxe). Go to mine its like 35+ level if you play alone no nerf needed.

Did it make sense that you could carry hundreds of glass jars ... or that you could fill 125 of them at a time with a single scoop out of a water source? If you don't ever have to struggle for a resource ... than it isn't really a great mechanic. Also ... water is still stupidly easy to get in A21 ... you just have to pay more attention when looting and setup a few dew collectors.

In almost every game, I'd prefer Charakters not to wiggle around all the time, it's very wierd to me that developers seem to think that this is very important. Anyhow, for the gameplay this is a very small detail and not very important also, but it doesn't make the game more immerssive. Developers please get rid of this shit. Still 7 days to die is one of the best, if not the best sandbox-game I know of. It's great to see, that models get more realistic every time. So this means for me, that I am going to play it soon again, well done funpimps! Edit: I am praying for a fantasy version of this game, I am not looking for a mod, I want a new game of the same kind with medieval-fantasy-setting!

Looking forward to the player character changes...and sincerely hope the female sounds have changed as well or I'll have to continue playing as a male despite that I'm female. :/ Would love to see some basic player animations, e.g. swimming, though I don't get the impression that's on the agenda. And...that's about it. It's mind-boggling to me how many of the absolute basics are still missing from the game while most of the community is clamoring for new "features". Will have to wait and see how the progression changes affect the pacing. If it's tolerable and even, I'll be good. Honestly prefer the more shiny metal look of the motorcycle armor and such. A classic motorcycle is supposedly made mostly of metal (more fiberglass now, I'm sure), not sand, which is the texture and color that front plate will have in 1.0. Apparently, the entire thing is rusted but doesn't bear the color of rust. Will also have to wait on the armor sets. The modular clothing/armor changes strike me as a huge step backward and unnecessarily restrictive at the moment. Haven't been with it long, but already would never consider playing it without mods that respect player agency because it's my opinion that player agency and imagination is being developed right out of the game in favor of some precise way TFP want it to be played.

I hear you - no word on the female sounds. I will say that introducing scarcity - if done by correctly balancing progression - will create more player agency. Choices will matter on which armor you create, what you buy, the order you approach things.

Why is Trader Rekt in the forest biome? Makes much more sense for them to switch Jen and Rekt. Rekt is an asshole and belongs in the burnt undesirable wasteland. Jen is much nicer, and belongs in the more calm forest biome.
