Yep I don't want them. They sound like they are trying to do everything in one lens but the results are substandard.

It's a question of the right tool for the job. Progressive lenses trade peripheral vision to provide a gradual transition through the midrange to the reading correction. The gradual transition from far to near works for me unlike bifocals which switch from far to near with no transition. For me progressives are not optimal for driving. Driving with them requires more head rotation since there is distortion at the outside edge of the lens; bifocals might actually be a better choice since peripheral vision correction is better. Progressives also work ok for me for computer use, but for folks who use really large screens and/or need good peripheral vision they may not. One option that may work better for computers is progressive lenses that only correct for the mid and near range.

The intermediate zone in a progressive is generally the narrowest portion of the corridor and it’s well known that for computer use, they’re less than perfect. I use progressives every day and they work well, but I still have a separate pair dedicated to computer use.

I so regret progressives. I want bifocals instead. I dont know why they push these. Especially for first time by users. They should start out with that but the clinic pushed this on me.

I have perfect eyesight😍👁👁& no glasses😳. But, my wife recently got her first glasses, and they're progressives. She found them difficult at first, but they're now better for her. And she's super-cute wearing them!💙🤎

New to glasses and got progressives. Floored by how I was able to function without glasses but def better with them. phone, reading, TV and drive is great, but computer screens(dual monitors in a V shape) is proving to be a challenge as I feel the tunnel vision. And soooo weird when I take them off after a few minutes. My biggest concern is I was burning through a dozen 2.00+ readers every few months because I lose them, drop them or step on them.

I'm suffering in a similar yet different manner, The distortion field on the left comes in so tight to the RX pupil spacing that the whole left side is Distortion. My eyes feel like they are bleeding and ready to jump out.

I would get a single 40" 4k monitor rather than several 24" monitors, it's more productive IMO. But fair point on the progressives. I am currently using progressives, but they are not ideal for the work environment (that consists of lots of staring at said 40" screen, as well as looking at a phone or papers). I can currently use the distance component of the glasses to see the monitor as well as the intermediate area and also the reading component, but this won't always be the case as I age. I will keep the progressives for "out and about", i.e. shopping, where I can see where I'm going and read the packaging/labels as I shop. Great for that purpose. For work I will either get single vision intermediate (suitable for reading or computer), but suspect that eventually this may not work e.g. when I am 65 or so. OR I will get bifocals, probably inner or blended bifocals. Not sure whether to make the upper part of the bifocal be distance or intermediate, either would work at my age but eventually that might not be the case. However, I want to get a system that is going to age gracefully, I don't want to be old and accustomed to a system that no longer works, requiring me to learn new skills.

I am Myopic with Astigmatism so I certainly need glasses for distance. I am also Presbyopic so I need a reading presciption. I can read without my glasses as(although the astigmatism can reduce clarity). Computer Screens tend to be too far away for me to read without glasses or without cranking my back or my neck to read. I have office lenses which seem to be the ideal solution for me.

Do your single vision glasses help while you are on a computer screen? Do you have any issues using your single vision glasses while driving? I miss my single vision glasses so much.

Some progressives have a wider field than others. There are “workspace/office” that would work better for someone like you who looks at multiple monitors. Or a lined bifocal that is 35 mm wide with intermediate prescription for your computer on the top and your reading power on the bottom. Executives can be thicker and overkill for someone like you, they also have far less options.

Thanks. I am getting the progressives changed to bifocal. I’ll just keep my dedicated work computer glasses and put the others on when I leave work.

Pretty much what I’ve done. I do wear a set of dedicated computer glasses all day at work. They have the anti blue light blocking coating. I “THINK” it works therefore it does. I used to get headaches staring at 3 monitors all day and since the glasses just headaches from the users calling 😁.

Paying a huge premium for progressive lenses that deliver sub-par vision is unacceptable to me. Bifocals work better. Especially if made of glass.

Progressive lenses are hit and miss. When they hit they’re awesome, when they miss, they suck bad. I’ve had two pairs of progressives that were great and two that made me sick. They have to be measured so perfect that a frogs hair difference can make them like torture .

I have been wearing progresive Lenses for 20 years. I think they were great. I had no trouble getting used to them initially I was myopic stigmatism needed intermediate and close range since I had cataract surgery my myopic has improved somewhat, but I still have astigmatism need glasses for computer work car, dashboard, and reading progressives correct all my feels of vision 100%
@MichaelAbernathy

MY issue is that at the time of doing this the “thin” middle part of the progressives is what mattered the most for my usage. I could NOT use that very thin strip to look at my 3 monitors all day long. I need to do an update video on progressives. NOW, I DO have some progressives for “everyday” usage even though I don’t wear glasses everyday all the time OTHER than when needing to work and see the monitors or just read. My new progressives are in some transition sunglasses. They work great for being outside, driving, and when needing glasses to see in a restaurant for the menu. My work glasses are still just a a single vision correction ONLY used for when I’m working. So for me progressives have a place. That place is NOT having the main vision needed being that thin strip for medium distances.
