Those GP15-1 units were Missouri Pacific units! Union Pacific never bought a GP15-1 new. Instead, UP had a fleet of ALCo-GE RS-2 and RSC-2 units for branch line duty!

There used to be a line between Northfield and Mankato. Conductor Frank Finnegan lived in Mankato. The RR told him to cut back on his long derailment reports, so after the next derailment he reported " Off again, on again, gone again, Finnegan." Probably apocryphal but humorous.

That’s so weird that the Cannon Falls line used to link up to Red Wing. Now the closest thing you can get to a train between Cannon Falls and Red Wing is a bicycle with an ACME train whistle on it lol. Also I flew a Cessna out of Lakeville when I was training to be a pilot in high school.

The Milwaukee Road also had a line to Canon Falls back in the day too! Its amazing, and sad, how many lines the area used to have, and only has now. Neat! I should be there next weekend with the Commemorative Air Force for an event!

@@douglasskaalrud6865 it was a humorous play on words. The acronym was MN&S. It served southern Minnesota. The other railroaders just called it monkey nuts.

Another great video. Have two questions. are there any rail customers between Northfield and Lakeville? Any talk of reactivating the line north of Lakeville to the MN river bridge?
@jtbredow2 жыл бұрын
I will defer to others more connected than I, but I live nearby and haven't heard of any serious talk on this. I've heard of groups that want to turn it into a trail, but municipalities want to keep the rails for possible future passenger rail as it is a good corridor, but I will admit this is a bit dated information. Here's to hoping!
@SD4575002 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the kind comment, and watching. There has been *talk* for years about reactivating the entire line again, but so far, it has just been talk. The bridge over the MN River though, is a different story. TCWR apparently owns it, and put a great deal of money into it recently. The plan is to run grain trains from the TCWR, down the old MN&S, and interchange with the UP in Savage. Only time will tell if that happens.
