Everyone needs to know how to defend! Whether you are a defender, midfielder, or attacker. You will eventually find yourself in a situation where these principles will help. If you are a defender, realize that you are so important to the game! Attackers may win games. But defenders win championships. If you have any questions, please comment below. I play defense and tryouts for my team are tomorrow. The jv and varsity teams both already have solid defenders and I'm completing with a lot of people for the spots left. Thanks so much for the extra help.

Thank you for your defender videos! I've been playing for a while now and I am hoping to make varsity when the season starts this year. I was on JV this last season (9th grade) and all the seniors on varsity said I would make it next year (in 10th grade) I need to work on being more aggressive and having confidence during a game (which isn't a problem for me in practice)

Luv the video. The essential thing in defending is to always be goal side of the player you're marking. Give yourself enough spacing between yourself & that player whilst being aware of your fellow defenders as to how close they are to you as well.

How much space should you give as a fullback when the other team's wingman is having the ball? Some suggests get on top as soon as possible. Some says try to trap him. Some says leave some space in between so that you don't get beaten.

These videos are very helpful ! Can you provide some tactics on defending when the fowards and mids are extremely fast/skillful/smart with plays and timing.The offside trap rarely works with these players as they like to play in front of the defensive line and use their speed and through balls on the ground or air to beat the defense. They like to touch the ball alot to seperate the defensive line from the mid line to create spce for their fowards or mids to shoot into the goal.
@ProgressiveSoccer
@ProgressiveSoccer 7 жыл бұрын
If you watch the last portion of this video again I touch on that topic. If they are too fast and you know that, you have to give more space to deny the space in behind. Keep them in front of you. Watch it 1 more time to see if it helps.

Good points but not detailed! As a defender sometimes you can't push an attacker back instead you have to push them wide or inside our teammate. You also need to make the attacker away from the goal and never let him get to the centre because the goalkeeper would have a larger angle to take care of(The role of the defender is to facilitate the game for the gk this is done by blocking, dispossessing the opponents, pushing opposing attackers away from the centre as to make the angle lower and harder if the attacker will consider shooting, ect...). Another thing is to divide the pitch and imagine a straight line from the centre of the goal to the other opposite centre goal, and while attacking you try to dribble into the centre line but usually the defender will cover it so the probability is that you are more likely to succeed getting past the defender if you dribble towards the centre and then depending on the situation you cut inside or outside. Dribble at a 45° angle when 1vs1 because either the defender will cover the centre, side or keeps falling back. Please reply if you don't understand and I'll try to help explain thanks.

When do you know when to have an offside trap or be on goal side of your opponent?
@mcsnickerman7262
@mcsnickerman7262 7 жыл бұрын
I would say usually on a counter attack. Because when your team loses the ball up the field the other can easily play a ball over the top to an offside player. That's why it's good to be in a line there. When you're in your own box it's not really a good idea because a striker can easily shoot from outside the 18 and you need to force them into mistakes in that area so I think be goal side
@mcsnickerman7262
@mcsnickerman7262 7 жыл бұрын
Gabby Chavez If you watch how elite teams pass their way into the 18 yard box and quickly in the 6 yard, you'll get an understanding of just how close to goal teams can get. There's no point of an offside trap there because the opposing team will probably be trying to shoot at goal from close distance
@ProgressiveSoccer
@ProgressiveSoccer 7 жыл бұрын
You have to be aware of where the last defender is. It's your responsibility to stay onside. So whether they play high or low that determines how far you can move up the field. Constnatly be looking over your shoulder and in front to see where this line is.

I have friends playing soccer who strongly discourage the use of these methods, claiming that these are just "theoretical knowledge" with no help since being on the field is a completely different matter. While I do disagree with my friends, I do wish to know if there is any specific on-field training or drills to help teach these methods to players, and help them understand its importance.

@ProgressiveSoccer
@ProgressiveSoccer 7 жыл бұрын
Depends if you have help from your other defenders. If you have help you have to step into him and try to make a tackle or stay with him. Otherwise he can take space, pick a pass, or get a shot off. If you have no help you have to drop off and try to cut off his passing angles while you close him down at the same time.

Everyone on my team just wants to be on the attacking side so they leave me behind, i try my best to tackle but there are just way too many of them for me to handle and when the other team score all my team mates show their frustration on me. This is how it goes: No GK ME Everybody else Yea there is no goalkeeper and no defender other than me.
