A Tasmanian flower grower has been left shocked after a drug task force uprooted her entire crop of poppies. Kate Dixon accidentally planted poppies that are restricted, as they can be used to make opium.

​@@bradleyhannah8713yet growing opium poppies is also lethal here! I've grown them on my balcony, with other flowers, the flowers really are quite beautiful. Processing them into opium or morphine would be illegal, but if you had a small patch and made a cup of tea for your joint pain or whatever, nobody is likely to stop you, I mean, most people don't turn their whole garden over to them, most don't have a large enough garden that anyone would be likely to question it! If you planted a large field and were generating a lot of suspicious waste, you might be in trouble!

Back in the day, one of my mates bough a container of Poppy Seeds from the Supermarket, and planted them. Out of a hundred, 3 sprouts came up. I though they irradiated them to make them sterile.

Poppies here in the USA are legal to grow they call them Bread Seed poppies and are used for baking!

Everywhere I've ever looked online say they are TECHNICALLY illegal BUT it depends on what state you live in and how large an amount you are growing. I came to be interested about this after i came back from Pakistan, where opium and heroin is technically illegal and yet they sell the dried seed pods of the poppy at every market (at least in Northern Pakistan i can't say for sure if they do anywhere else) and they all have the little slice marks from where opium has been extracted from them. People often make a tea from these left over dried pods...i have tried it myself. It had a similar effect of pain medication but made me extremely sleepy. I used the tea other times and mixed it with coffee to counteract the sleepiness and it worked 😅

Not true. Only Papaver Somniferum and Papaver Setigerum poppies produce opium in any workable quantity, which can then be used to make other opiates. Other poppies do not.

You can make opium out of 99% of poppy plants. Some just have a higher content. Meanwhile you can just order some red maeng da kratom online and that stuff will make you feel like you took 3 or 4 30mg oxys but even better. Opium is a lot of work for no pay off.

Really? Because I’ve tried many types of kratom and have yet to find any that’s even close to oxy. Even with mega dose of k, barely any lasting pain relief.

There's lots of variety of poppy that don't contain morphine, only p. somniferum and p. setigerum produce it in significant amounts, oriental poppy, California poppy, field poppy, Welsh poppy and others do not.
