The most annoying thing is you *have* to be completely still for your shield to block anything. Move half an inch and you'll get hit... at least in Zelda 2 you can still block things while moving, you only let your guard down when attacking.

​@@HylianFox3 True, but also in Zelda 2, enemies would also constantly block everything you did or had to be hit in a very specific way, which was ridiculously difficult to do with the way that game controlled. Also in Zelda 2, if you got a Game Over, you were sent back to Zelda's Shrine (except for when you finally reached the Great Palace). Here you just have to do the one level from the beginning again. And even then, you still get to keep the items you got (like keys), so you often you'll be able to skip parts that caused you to take damage the first time. You have your give and your take with these old games. xD

Fun fact: the game never once requires you to use 10 bombs to destroy a boulder. The fact that it allows you to do that is just kind of a bonus, and might not have even been originally intended. All you need to do is access Washubi Swamp and Hanyu Forest, and you don't have to ever destroy a single boulder to get there. You just need to buy bombs, destroy the dodongo in Aru Ainu, get the green shroud from the woman. Then you get the Lantern from the house next to the hungry girl's place in Kobitan, and you have everything you need to defeat Gibdo. Defeating Gibdo opens Washubi Swamp, and beating the Swamp opens Hanyu Forest. Once you get Hanyu Spore from the forest, and then take it to the druid in the Swamp, he will make you the Power Glove, which allows you to destroy those boulders in a single blow. It is at THAT point that you're expected to go back to those boulders you "couldn't" destroy with your bombs. You can tell because the Power Glove is the weapon you need to progress at Tykogi Tower and defeat Iron Knuckle. From a game design standpoint, the game is actually pretty solid. It's just too open ended for its own good. The game just fumbles the ball HARD when it comes to its gameplay, through both controls and mandatory rupee grinding in the original version.

Actually, these games were made with Nintendo's permission though they have nothing to do with it. They let Phillips have a pick of their IPs. This was around the same time they screwed Sony out of their deal. Also, there's no traditional boss fights in these games. They're all one-hit kill 'puzzle' bosses. You just gotta find the ONE item that kills them all instantly.

Idk man, people say this all the time, but I can usually see it just fine. Curves in the terrain where it's lighter in color are platforms about 90% of the time. Often people have trouble because you have to get ALL the way above the line before you can stand on it. So times where it looks like you should have landed on it might not because of some wonky physics in how the jumps work. Even as a member of camp "Wand of Gamelon is actually not that bad", I know that jumping was always wonky and continues to be in this one, even with larger jump distances. xD

...Huh. As somebody who is in the camp of "Wand of Gamelon isn't actually that bad" I'm completely stunned that some of your shots are going through enemies. I've never seen that happen even in the original game. xD I'm also confused about how you're having trouble with the menus. I don't remember having issues with it even in the base game, but it DEFINITELY wasn't a problem in the remake. You should be able to go up and down easy by just pushing the buttons. Maybe there's something wrong with the version you have? Also, you should be able to skip cutscenes, are you just not trying to or are you literally incapable of doing so? Because if it's the latter, then something is DEFINITELY not working right. xD "[The flute] only freezes flying enemies, what a dumb item." he says not knowing how valuable that ability is~

Bread is one of those items that has kinda become useless by the way you've progressed thanks to being overpowered by the remaster. The point of the Bread is that it was a one-time use item that you need to throw to distract Arpagos (the flying pterodactyl enemies) so that you can pass an area filled with them safely. The intention was for you to use the bread in the tower infested with them in another part of the town. This is how you were originally expected to get to the Arpagos Egg, which you would then trade to the hungry girl in Kobitan for the Flute. And the Flute essentially functions like the bread in that it stops all flying enemies, but is infinite use as long as you have the rupees to pay for it. But thanks to faster movement speeds, it was infinitely easier to get through the tower without needing to distract the Arpagos, meaning this bread is now essentially useless. Its only use is if you ever run out of rupees to fuel the Flute. Which isn't really that likely. Especially since, again, with the faster movement speeds, you can blitz through an area and usually only need to use it once to get through a whole screen.

I dunno what it is exactly, but there's something kind of charming and nostalgic about all of this. Obviously there are glaring gaps in the quality of gameplay (this being the remastered version makes me wonder in horror at the OG experience), but this old-school "go to a random place, find a random thing, give it to the other dude, get a new also rather random thing that kills the guy and look at this totally new place we're at for some reason" experience is evocative of a different, probably dumber, yet somehow comforting era of gaming. I'm really digging this.

You'd think the remaster would reduce it to 3. 2:49 I think you traveled by water. You can blow up the boulder with the Power Glove later, the game just gives you the choice to do it early with the 10 bombs. The memes and bad faith criticism forget that the game's sufficiently open ended so that it's not necessary.
