Rachel Morin, a mom of five, was raped and murdered while on a hike. Victor Antonio Martinez-Hernandez was also on the hiking trail that day and has now been arrested, accused of raping and murdering Rachel Morin. He’s an illegal alien from El Salvador. After matching DNA from the Maryland crime scene to evidence from the Los Angeles attack, investigators used the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) to identify Martinez-Hernandez. Surveillance footage further corroborated his involvement, ultimately leading to his capture. Harford County Sheriff Jeffery Gahler noted the distance from the southern border and didn’t hold back his criticism of current immigration policies, saying, “American citizens are not safe because of their failed immigration policies.” He emphasized that this is the second murder in Harford County by an illegal alien from El Salvador in two years. “Victor Hernandez did not come to this country to make a better life for him or his family, he came here to escape the crimes he committed in El Salvador,” Gahler declared. Martinez-Hernandez’s ability to enter and remain in the U.S. despite his violent past is a direct result of the Biden administration’s lax border policies. These policies have not only failed to prevent millions of individuals from entering the country but have also emboldened criminals who exploit our porous borders. The fact that Martinez-Hernandez could commit such brutal crimes on American soil is a damning indictment of the administration’s open-borders policies. Rachel Morin’s death has alarming similarities to those of Laken Riley’s. Laken Riley was a 22-year-old nursing student brutally murdered while out on a morning run in Athens, Georgia. Her allegedly killer, Jose Ibarra, is an illegal alien who was present in Athens that morning because of the Biden administration’s open-borders policies and abuse of parole. Illegal aliens have surged American borders due to the assumption that they will get in. That includes dangerous individuals who know they exploit lax immigration policies. Those dangerous individuals often end up committing horrific crimes once in the United States. Rachel Morin’s and Laken Riley’s tragic deaths are a stark reminder of the human cost of failed immigration policies and open borders. Both should still be alive today.
