I had a kx500 and I thought the engine vibration was terrible. You can balance the crank and tighten up the engine mounts to help but the counter balancer on the BRC is an outstanding feature.

@Rhys Hutchinson the barpad is off a four year old set of bars. You could push a hotdog through the center it is so worn out. The skid plate is hanging off because the bike gets the crap rode out of it and has been crashed by a ton of test riders.... Vibration is comparable or less than any modern 2-stroke. Nowhere near the old 500s. How do I know? It's my bike :)

My CR500 doesnt really vibrate as its more of a buzz. My KX500 vibrates a little. My YZ490 used to shake like a poorly jetted paint mixer. Now that everything is perfectly balanced, its silky smooth. Definitely recommend crank balancing for any big bike.

I feel that the high hp # is irrelevant. Having spent 18 years on a cr500, learning it run it a gear high using the massive torque is key to fast riding. Hell, run it 2 gears high and prepare for takeoff....😂

Clark Kent the suspension was brutal.. 2016 with 4cs.. I put some 2013 suspension done by Racetech in there. Way better And the XP is good. It’s no 182 or 185. But it rips at 128kt on wheels. 100 on floats

I've forgotten about the comment put on your video on the day these went up for order, but I'm happy to see that MXA was finally able to get ahold of one... Even if the gear box wasn't shifting so well. 👍🏼👍🏼 It's about as modern as it can get for a 500... Best case is that KTM does opt to make a newer 500 bike, 300's pretty close, why not go all out and put it out there. BRC would still have the early bikes to build their kits.

"It takes some time to get moving"....well, for a 500cc kit that means BRC hasn't done fully their homework. "Powerband lacked character" ....strike two. "The clutch had to be abused to get into the meat of the powerband"...strike three! Is this a 500cc kit or a 200cc kit? Ok I'm being harsh, but BRM can play with many pipe/silencer, reed valve and compression rates to make it a monster- then again, maybe they think it is just perfect as it is. A well tuned 1986 CR500 will stretch your arms from 1 rpm and up :):):) ///Thanks MXA!

As an OG of Motocross, and the owner of not one but FIVE different KX500s, 87, 86, and three 89s, the rule of thumb was if you can't start the bike, YOU DON'T BELONG RIDING IT. END of story. This bike is in essence a stroked 250cc or 350cc bike, look at the spacer under the cylinder. The long stroke is what helps the power be mellower relatively speaking. A true 500cc beast is NOT easy to ride, was never meant to be easy to ride. Those beasts were the bike the HARD MEN OF MOTOCROSS rode. Yanked your arms out at the sockets, tire you out after 1 lap and scare you so bad yo mama will feel threatened. 😲😳🙄😧😕👍🏼👊🏾👊🏻 This is a bike for the young guns that never rode big bore 2 Strokes and are used to 4 stroke delivery Braaaap.

There's no spacer under the cylinder, it's a completely new engine with a new 82mm crank that uses the donor transmission. While I agree with your comments on the kick starting, most of our customers ordered the electric start :) See the parts here: brcracing.ca/

I remember this days. I remember back in 1996 my dad sold his kx500 and bought a brand new KTM 550. He told me I could ride it if I could start it, and that thing was left kick! At 13 years old it took a lot of kicks for me to figure and get the leg strength to start that thing, but I did it. Now everything is electric start....

74Hp and 54ft-lbs of torque. Box stock with no mods. This was one of the first engines. Of note: peak HP and torque occur very very close to each other in the RPM Range. A newer version of the pipe pushes that number up considerably.

Deborah chesser My younger brother has a 2014 250sx and the rear shock linkage nut has backed out MULTIPLE times! Talk about scary. Overall it’s a great bike but it like they used butter instead of loctite for the bolts from the factory. I still don’t know why it loosens bolts so easily. lol

@Fatdicc Guy tbh first couple laps. Sure. But I ride drag toys and one of them is an 86 cr500 only it's in an 86 atc 250r three wheeler. Just engine swap. Port and polished stage 2 and bored over just cause of the rebuild tbh. It scares me more to start up then to ride. It hasnt broke my ankle yet. But I know it is going to one day. (Not joking)

Lawman 745 I think that there’s more than just the piston, rod, and crank. Some Canadian MX channel did an in depth look at what was all in the kit and it seems like a reasonable price for everything you get with it.

flawlessfoose It’s not inflation, it’s development and build cost (cylinder etc) remember even being sold out (BRC) and people are on waiting lists to get these engines, it’s still small, it’s a good start and cost clearly isn’t an issue for those waiting on the list to get there’s, if that grows cost may come down, KTM will never be a threat they or anyone else manufacturer wise aren’t going to turn back the clock, it’s just the crap we deal with today marketing and emissions and regulations. If you want to play you have to pay for a 500 simple. Good work BRC for keeping the dream alive.

@@maverick2242 ^^ I don't think they realize the entire left side of the case is part of what they're getting in the kit. A case half for any bike is stupid expensive, but you get everything with the kit. It's a good deal imho 👍🏼
