Mages are amazing, Revives are better.
As you can see from the stupid numbers the synergyless Council member at the end obliterated his brethren with max dese synergy. What's their peak? Who knows. This is probably just average DMG displayed.

despite watching multiple videos explaining what the best summon is, revives have always seemed mid tier to me vs having all 3 skeles out and then maxing Amp. maps and bosses have been quicker with the skeles and I've tried all the revives. maybe I'm just missing specific gear, but I used a might aura barb and Amp for skeles and they've been way more efficient. I was going to ignore Amp and just start maxing revive to have them out with all the skeles but I need a token to try that.

Might Barb is worse then WW Barb. Also act 3 is amazing. And act 1 physical. Many necros exist beyond your build. Go to travincal, kill council, receive them. GG

I came back to play after 2-3 years and while the QOL of not having to summon skellies all the time definitely is awesome, I find that running with my good old revives - mostly councils were quite a lot faster. What I do remember though was that when having both revives and skeletons, they would "bug" on top of each other and not spread out as much as I can see my skellies are doing right now. Is that still a thing or?

It's now largely a visual bug. There is still blocking but less of a cluster when porting.

You can literally play any necro build and just add revives to drastically increase your efficiency. Even revives alone can carry you through maps, albeit slowly. Just have to know what ones you need and where to find them

Green gobo is super solid. But I think act 3 holy shock with rev/archer/mages might be better. But it's more niche.
