Great video. I am a seasoned dPM with 20 year experience and was looking for a simple and effective way of presenting what are the PM principles. Thai video articulates what project mgt is in a very clear and concise way. Thank you.

Would you recommend someone who has 5 years in the construction sector and a 4 years in a private sales office type environment to get into project management? I was thinking of going into the construction sector or maybe the civil service with a project management course done

@@SlurmsMackenzie187 It's not for me to make a recommendation, but I would say three things: 1. Construction sector experience and office work will have given you a lot of exposure to project working and the principles and practices of PM. It's a perfectly solid grounding for making the change. 2. Both those sectors are sound choices. Construction because you already know the sector and will have some instant credibility. Civil service becausestrangely, many people are deprecating about working in the government sector. But there are lots of projects to be done - often demanding. Civil service takes generalists, and some departments will value your construction experience. You don't say what country. In some, pay may not be stellar, but conditions and pensions are great. If you're in the UK (or some others), PRINCE2 may be an advantage. 3. This isn't advice, but I found project management a great career that has opened up lots of opportunities. Whatever you decide, good luck. Check out this video: onlinepmcourses.com/get-your-first-project-managemet-job-video/ Lots of free and paid resources at onlinepmcourses.com

@@Onlinepmcourses Hi, thanks so much for the detailed reply. I really appreciate the help you’ve given me. The points that you’ve made have pointed me in the direction of project management. I am going to check out the link you sent over right now. I’m based in Ireland, and I have a friend who has climbed the ranks of the civil service, who can get me a job with them in a good department. Again, I really appreciate the reply and the insight into project management. I’ve liked and subbed too. Have a great day and cheers again.

Thank you for this video. I'm a web dev that often gets assigned tasks that require me to take a management role for projects and I've always been lost where to start. This is very clear and gives me ideas how to proceed when getting all the details required to get started. Thank you!

Prince2 is UK based ?
@Onlinepmcourses19 күн бұрын
PRINCE2 was developed in the UK (for the UK Government, originally) and is 'operated' and maintained in the UK. But the certification is valued in many places and available globally.

MR Clayton, Since i started taking your classes on youtube and along with my personal studies i have been proggresively changing my practices to the UK model. Would you consider that the Prince 2 handbook you mention in this video has the same objectives or is very similar to the PMBOK? If not, is there something you would recomend from your personal site or other material.
@Onlinepmcourses4 жыл бұрын
Jerónimo, thank you for supporting my content. No, the PMI PMBOK Guide and the PRINCE2 handbook have different objectives. PMBOK is designed to cover a whole body of knowledge about the mechanisms, tools, methods, processes, etc of Project management. And PMBOK 6 (the current version) has made a (small) move towards incorporating Agile too. PMBOK 7th Edition will go a lot further. PRINCE2 is a specific methodology for doing Project Management. It specifies a set of processes and systems to use in a PRINCE2-compliant project. And, here in the UK, all Government and publicly-funded projects need to be PRINCE2 compliant.
