Oh, I'm so glad for the change. The thing I love most about the My Time games has been the real human charm and goofy characters. Doubly so for the charm of the dev team, I love the references in writing, the fun videos they post, the letters they read, ect. I feel like a mobile gacha approach would have sucked all that soul out. I'm totally backing the kickstarter, now.

Thank goodness it's now going to be a PC game! Now I'll be able to play it. I absolutely never play mobile games and just wasn't prepared to play this on mobile no matter how much I absolutely love the My Time series. Great news indeed.

Okay, I was not aware of the shift from phone to console, so thank you for this. I also regard my phone as a necessary evil, only to be used for phone calls and maybe email, so I wasn't paying attention to the new (supposedly phone based) Let's Play game at all. I appreciate the heads-up!

MAN i am so glad about this change. Like you i only treat my phone as a necessary evil and do 0 gaming on it, plus i HATE gacha games with a passion. Originally I wasnt going to play this at all and it was such a hard decision to make because coughAVERYcough, but now? phew PLEASE TAKE MY MONEY!!!! I'm so pleased and proud with how sandrock turned out. Initially played the heck out of the switch version of portia as janky as it was. Now that we know they do care and deliver on their promises, i'm happy to back this game on kickstarter on a more expensive tier! Thanks for the info leaf!!! Glad to have you back!!

I'm actually quite worried about this game. I read on reddit that the publisher they had before stepped away, because Project Me couldn't meet their goals (not enough people were interested in playing this during testing phases), probably because it was on mobile or maybe they did a bad job at advertising the tests... Either way, with this Pathea lost an opportunity for a steady income which they would've used to finance both project me (as a spin off) and another My Time project for PC/consoles. Crowdfunding is fine for one game, but I guess they couldn't keep both projects running this way... The consequence of this is that they decided to revamp Project Me into a proper sequel title for their franchise (at least that's what it seems like from the hints we were given in the most recent Q&A on the Pathea discord). My worries are: - Will this game end up with gameplay features that are catered towards mobile gaming, which feel weird on PC? - Will this game end up with hard coded bugs due to that shift, so they can't be fixed and will cause more and more problems as content updates get released? (like in the Sims 4, because they meant to develop it as an online service game at first) - Will the story and lore of this game feel as deep and fulfilling as the Sandrock story felt? (because originally it was meant to be a small spin off thing, and I think they meant to make something entirely different for the next sequel...) - Will it feel like a proper sequel? / Will it do well compared to Sandrock and Portia? - Will it do well enough to allow future projects for the franchise? - Do they even have the financial means to set higher ambitions with this sequel? I'm hoping for the best of course, but yeah. I just really loved MTAS and I want them to make many more great games in the future. Really hoping losing this publisher won't be the beginning of the end.

Thanks for the details! I heard something about this, but didn't manage to dig through all the messages, so I never quite understood what exactly happened. Losing a publisher and a chance for steady fungind is tough. But I don't think this game was a good idea in the first place. It was a bit too much of a direction change for something that's still niche, and almost all the fans are strictly PC and console players. I'm not even sure if the tests had a chance to be properly advertised. Sadly, I think the whole idea was based on an overestimation of Pathea's reach and flexibility :( (edit: the Mass Effect 2 shoutout here is entirely accidental :D ) But I imagine it could get a lot worse if the game happened and flopped. What worries me the most is the general tone in which the devs speak about this new version of the game. Maybe I'm reading too much into this, and maybe it's simply too early, but it does sound like they're a bit at a loss, and aren't quite sure what to do with it. I do sound carefree and happy in the video, but I share your worries. I absolutely see all the potential problems that the total repurposing of the game may result in. And I just want another My Time game with a heartwarming story, friendships and romances. I don't want anything too shallow or too "mobile-y" and I can see how easily this project could become a throw-away filler in the series, which would be terrible, but I believe Pathea knows very well they can't afford it. I think they don't want to just scrap this game because so much work went into it already, the question is if they physically can save it on a technical level. I have no idea how hard it is to change the entire structure of a game, but I imagine it's not easy, so yeah, in truth, I am not exactly 100% optimistic either. Apparently the next proper My Time game was supposed to have city building elements anyway and I wonder if maybe they just decided to merge those two games. Of course I do want this game to happen and be as good as possible. I really liked some of the NPCs, and I actually loved the world design. The only thing I can do is back the campaign when it starts, provided the game actually looks like a proper sequel.

@leafandgames yeah agreed, taking this mobile game direction was a bold choice. I didn't even know they were aiming to turn it into a gacha game (I don't like that concept at all). It made sense for chinese players and some other countries with a lot of mobile gamers, but in the Western countries, the most popular mobile games are casual time-killers full of ads and microtransactions. Typical pc/console gamers don't touch those usually... at least not as far as I can tell without knowing if there's a statistic. Those target audiences just don't match too well, I think. My hope for project me was that it would give them some passive income they could rely on to focus on more ambitious awesome projects for us pc/console players lol. Now they won't have that anymore, and while I personally don't enjoy mobile gaming, this development did disappoint me. Because I was hoping for a new game that takes things much further than MTAS did. That is only possible with good reliable funding. So I'll definitely join the crowd funding this time. Pathea has so much potential. With the art style change, there's a chance that they might attract way more players than before. I personally know a few people who refuse to give MTAS a chance because of its cartoony art style (which is such a shame). Now, if they can also manage to turn this into an optional coop experience, this project could turn much more successful. There's a huge playerbase for multiplayer farming/building/survival/rpg games they could attract. I'm just really hoping for them to be successful whatever they do. Their writing and game design skills deserve much more recognition. Btw I'm working in the design industry, so I have some background knowledge about how companies like this operate. All the things I said are basically educated guesses based on that. So, I can't provide a real source. I wouldn't count reddit as a reliable source since things said on there could just be rumours. The only reliable sources are the direct words of the developers. Maybe the publisher left for different reasons, we might never know.

I caught one of the earlier messages on discord after this turn around and I think they said that there could maybe be a posibility on a kickstarter for this game too. I recon it is because as you said- the publisher they had stepped away. And honestly, seeing how well they did with Portia and even better, Sandrock, I wouldn't mind backing them yet again!
@SmearyBridges5 ай бұрын
Hopefully it stays single player. The multiplayer for Sandrock is so barebones and terrible they should have just focused on the single player story instead of splitting it up. Especially since the online story was all but abandoned
@LunaRuna2125 ай бұрын
@SmearyBridges i would like to see them give multiplayer another try. The main reason why MP in Sandrock kinda sucks is that it was the first time they made a multiplayer game, and they started developing the code for Sandrock SP before considering what they would need for MP. When you want your game to be played in MP, you need to insert code for those online sharing features right from the start. Editing them afterwards to allow for multiplayer is a nightmare. So here sadly, they made that mistake, so they had to split SP and MP into different modes. Their first attempt at MP was too ambitious with its story and the early version didn't perform well during tests. They didn't have enough time to make MP as good as they wanted it to be until the game's deadline for full release. So they made the decision to scrap the story elements and to turn it into a sandbox game with no story at all... because it saved them time, and they thought that would be more enjoyable than what they had before. I wasn't able to join the early MP tests back then, so I can't tell. In a devpost on reddit (and steam too, I think), they explained that they learnt a lot from their mistakes with MP in Sandrock and if memory serves me right they also said that in their next game they would plan the development of a MP mode right from the start alongside SP mode. So yeah, I'd like to see them try again and do a better job than before. It would bring them many more players and thus more publicity and more funding for their future development plans.
