Project Narrowboat ep 6 - Thatcham to Woolhampton

In this episode, I take a leisurely cruise from Thatcham to Woolhampton. There's a lot of unwanted water though - both in the form of rain - courtesy of the great British summer - and excess water in the cut - in fact I nearly run into trouble at a weir!

I think it takes everyone ages - that's if you go beyond just the basic. Lots of footage gets left out and audio levels take quite a while to match up. It's a very enjoyable process but long winded. Plus, my laptop is as slow as heck, then there is doing the thumb, description, and upload.

The locks are quite a lot of work single handed - very different if you have two or three to crew a boat.

I cruised the Kennet and Avon last summer up the Thames to Lechlade It's stunning but the moorings are hit and miss. A lot of jumping with center line in hand and pins.

At about 14.01 you see a bird, what I believe is a common tern, diving for fish. Just at the right from John’s head.

Yes, I was lucky that just happened to be in the video - you could wait along time for one of those. But you do see it... mostly when camera not to hand!

Hi Johny... greetings from South Africa.... I've just found your channal and have binge watched your vids and now up to date... Another lovely cruise... Air in the fuel line is any engine's nemises... I've learnt that fish taken in the canal must be returned to the water.... Is this true of the rivers as well.... Hi Jack, when I got the boat it was in primer so I've been painting it a bit every season! (I'll do a video about that at some point) so the detailing and name are still to be put on!

@@ProjectNarrowboat Well it's registered as Dera Rosa Built by David Bridgeman in 2016 - Length : 18.9 metres ( 62 feet ) - Beam : 6.1 metres ( 20 feet ). Steel hull Diesel power of 42 BHP. Registered with Canal & River Trust number 524088 as a Narrowboat ('standard' with cabin accommodation). :-)

No destination as such - but once I reach the end of the K&A (Reading) I'll be Thames bound for Oxford - will try and get plenty of footage.

Do you ever get rats climbing into a boat?

I've not had any in mine but I see them frequently on the banks.
