Glad you are setting the right standard of safety gear…. Most KZbinrs totally ignore this, while you can from a personal prospective they set a very poor guide for the young who are influenced… the risks are high. It’s not hard to wear the correct PPE and use things like angle girders correctly but… Well done. 👍

Normally when I cut out rust as had in the rails have, I mark out the area that needs to be repaired that will be cut out, then apply masking tape over it then trace the cut lines onto the masking tape (you can usually see the marker through the masking tape, I then mark and draw any bend and fold lines on the masking tape as well, then peel the masking tape off and transfer it on the new replacement sheet steel, I also put relief cuts into the masking tape so that it goes on to the new steel plate evenly and flat. You then can recreate the part pretty accurately and easily, as you have all shapes, fold lines, etc there for the shaping of the replacement steel piece is more accurate and easier to wield in place.

Dynabrade or 3M belt Sanders are much better for removing spot welds. The only time I drill out spot welds is if I'm trying to save the panel. That little structural piece you cut out was junk anyway. So I'd use the belt sander to grind out the welds. Takes a few seconds per spot weld

My pinch welds are folded flat in some spots from a previous owner who used the jack in the wrong places (many times), but there is no rust, should I just leave them alone or any suggestions? Thanks!

Difficult to say without seeing it but if they're crushed and the paint has broken, get some treatment to prevent rust forming

Beef up the engine internals if its not a 207, bigger injectors, upgraded fuel pump, aftermarket downpipe, bigger/free up the exhaust, stash an aftermarket/tunable ECU somewhere out of sight, should bring plenty of power while keeping the stock lock. 6sp STi gearbox? (Might be a step too far but the 5spd isn't renowned for its love of extra power)

Nice video again man. I am wondering what kind of antirust protection you’ll be using between the layers and in the cavities. Because due to your welds some primer is definitely burned and I personally don’t like those cavity waxes because they will melt when the car is in the sun. And when it runs out it will leave those dirty 80’s style marks on your seals like some cars had back than after the wax ran out off the bottom of the doors. And it will turn black eventually whet dirt sticks to it. I hope you have som cunning device which you can apply some 2k epoxy or a zink primer with for a proper durability. You have those lances for waxoil so why not for paint? Hope to see your solution in your next episode! Keep u the good work guys!

@@danbarruffo7743 That’s what I thought about my country, the Netherlands to but I’ve got my second Climate Control already installed in my house recently. The first one has done serious work in the past 17 years because it can get brutal in this country. And any car gets hot in even a view frugal days in a year, and I just don’t have a good feeling about bare metal treated with anything else than epoxy or zink based products. Overprotective or OCD I guess, ore both maybe 🤣
@danbarruffo77433 жыл бұрын
After every layer of metal I zinc primed the area before the next piece went in. Once the car is painted it will be getting full rust prevention treatment. In the meantime it is being kept in a temperature controlled energy so any flash rust will be minimal.

If Subaru were smart they'd keep these panels in production. Or do a run of shells. It works for the Mk 2 Escort. England needs to lay off the salted roads. I remember them salting roads when only a heavy frost was forecast. And that was in East Anglia. I saw proper snow 1 or 2 times in 3 years.

Dan that’s not more of your claret on the work bench at 20:43 on the vid is it ?, I know I put blood, swear and tears into my projects but you do know the NHS are pretty busy atm. That is some good fabrication though 👌. Can’t wait for the next instalment. Power wise remap only with possibly a new ECU, if you change the turbo etc etc it distances itself from what it was intended to be then the new owner has the option to go in whatever direction they want,that’s my view for what it’s worth.
@danbarruffo77433 жыл бұрын
Yes, yes that was more blood. I know the NHS are busy, I was quoted a 4.5hr wait time so I went home and my neighbour is a nurse so she sorted it out😁. Mot sure where we're going with the engine yet. I'm a big fan of upgrading the ECU just to make the best of what's there. I ran a Link on my Skyline, ended up with more power and better fuel economy. Can't argue with that!
