The other day i read a comment that put things into perspective. The products they loved expired whilst they were trying to pan products they didn't really like. I never decluttered so fast lol

Life is too short to use makeup you don’t absolutely love. I have a large collection and I prioritize makeup that I love. I don’t stress over eyeshadow, blush and highlighters because they are my favorite part of makeup and I have a lot. I’m also very aware I will never use them up. But they bring me joy so I do frequently declutter to my family and friends. I keep my favorites. Don’t let your favorite makeup get old while you’re trying to finish things you don’t absolutely enjoy. Btw I really enjoy your channel and your videos 🫶🏻

And blush, eyeshadow and most powder items last forever. I have MAC eyeshadows from 10+ years ago that performs just as well. I’ve got lipsticks from 2015 that are just as good, I spray them with alcohol every so often but makeup lasts longer than brand like to admit.

I keep a drawer with a full face of coordinated favorites for a "go-to" makeup look. Alternate that with a more "everyday makeup drawer" which gets rotated every week or 5 uses. I keep a makeup inventory spreadsheet and track my uses nightly (2 min). Don't finish products all the way but I can happily declutter and move on if I have gotten good use or tired of a product. I think usage goals are much easier than actual panning.

I do a monthly project pan and love how I have gone thru stuff or declutter or find old faves. I have been doing it for 3 years. I cut open tubes to make sure I get it all out.

Something that helps me to not get tired of the items in my project pan is to give myself permission to alternate with other items. I basically do a monthly shop my stash (but more obsessive, I make sure that throughout the year I will reach for every item in my makeup inventory). Ultimately, some items in my collection I will only consistently reach for for a month, but my project pan items will get used every month. This makes the progress slower but less boring! Also, if you don't enjoy a certain product, declutter it! There's no need to hate pan and it is also valid to take a break. I hope this helps! I just found your channel and I really enjoyed your realistic approach to project panning :)

I agree that you shouldn't try to pan things that you don't love, but my biggest lesson in panning has been learning patience. It's a marathon and not a sprint. I know if I roll something in I have to be committed to the long haul. Six months to a year for a lot of things, and up to two years for others (blushes are the hardest!). If I'm using something for a couple of months and I'm hating it I give myself permission to roll it out and try something else. I also only commit to finishing things that are not problem categories for me. For eyeshadow, blush, and highlighter I have a separate usage project to help me rotate through them. I'm doing three projects. My project pan is to finish things. I only put primer, foundation, concealer, powder, bronzer, brow products, and mascara in that one. Then I do project 10 uses for eyeshadow, blush, highlighter, and lip products. I'm also doing Deck of Panning as a way of rotating through items I wouldn't think to use regularly (colourful eyeshadow, red lips, that MAC Glitter I've had for 10 years 🤣). My collection is not particularly huge, but at 230 products it's sizeable, and a lot more than a regular makeup wearer would have. I find panning is great for actually helping me figure out what I want to declutter. I would say stick with it but allow some flexibility for yourself. It's supposed to be fun 😁

This was extremely helpful. Thank you for sharing. I agree not all categories can be treated equally and my biggest take away is love it or leave it. Don't pan for the sake of panning. I have yet to start the rotation of my makeup products. That's next.

I love this! I have a similar attempt to products that are really hard to pan for me (lip products and blushes). Every Saturday evening/Sunday morning I pick one cream blush, one powder blush, one lipliner, one gloss product and one lipstick for the upcoming week. I am only allowed to use these products out of that category but I still can mix and match (just powder blush on one day, cream + powder on another, just a cream blush and same for the lip combos: just liner and gloss or just gloss etc. but again only the colors I picked for that week). Concealer and other products that are easier for me, I just use them until they are gone and look in my stash if I find another mascara. Then I have to use up this mascara until that one is also gone. However, blush and lip products bring me most joy and fun in my makeup routine and rotating to all of them each week is a fun way to stick to my no-buy because it feels like I get to use a „new“ product every week. This way I use all products eventually, I can figure out which ones I really don’t like and declutter but I also don’t get bored like I would if I would use up one blush over the next three years. I do the same with perfumes: I pick one perfume for the week and rotate through them each week.

@@annika_27 love your method too! I think the great thing about panning is that it gives us a way to use up and/or rotate through our products in an organised way so we know we are getting use out of it, always remembering that there is nobody is forcing us to do things a certain way. We are all individuals and while we in the panning community support each other in our goals and take inspiration from each other we have to find our own way so that makeup stays fun and doesn't become a chore.

Right now, I am trying to pan one blush (Moira cream blush-but I use other blushes I like with it) and one of my Dior lipglosses. I have an obscene amount of eye shadow and blushes so now, I’m just concentrating on picking a few items from each category (eye shadow, blush (plus the Moira) foundation, concealer) each month and only use those. Then, next month grab a new set. This in addition to my no six month buy, has helped me enjoy what I have. I don’t care that much about powder but that Beauty Bakery one has caught my eye. I feel the same way when I see people hitting pan in powders and blushes after a few weeks! I loved the lipliner (yay for finishing it just and the Kiko Milano gloss. I enjoyed this video❤

Idk if this is helpful but, I’ve used up multiple blushes and bronzers. A blush takes about three years and a bronzer takes 1-2 years (for me anyway). Just commenting because you mentioned how others have huge pans and (in my experience) that’s how to get there. (And I wear a full face of makeup every day).

It is helpful. I've finished off powder blushes in the past but took just over a year consistently using every day. I'd simply like to pan a blush lol now.

Have you ever considered doing a usage project pan? Since you do want to see dents in products, you could do higher usage numbers (like maybe Too Much Tash’s 100 uses tracking) instead of little baby goals like 5-10 uses. Just an idea!
@KariMeghan10 ай бұрын
Great idea! I have. I plan to start an "everyday makeup drawer' and see where that takes me in getting use out of my products by way of rotation. However, there are still products I'd like to pan.

I love creating projects. However I apply zero pressure. I just consciously pick items to use up based on how old they are. I don’t put an insane amount of in at a time. I have the most success with mascara, setting sprays, concealer, lip balms/ lip sleeping mask, brow products, and lip glosses. I’ve hit pan in a couple shades in my ND Biba pallet and DM ground works pallet. I hit pan on the CT pressed powder and bronzer, a Patrick Ta cream bronzer, Kosas powder. I currently have my Dior setting spray, Caudalie setting spray, Fenty bright stick concealer and contour stick, a Huda Beauty silk lip gloss, Jacqueline Cosmetic lip oil, two Fenty lip and one Dior gloss NARs lip liner, NARS concealer, a few mascaras, Summer Friday lip balm, and the Kosas powder. This project will be successful. I already have in mind what o want to roll in. In addition to project pan I shop my stash at least twice a month and rotate my products. I create low and no buys depending on the category. I also purchase minis when available. I also have priority brands. Brands I know I love. I will say o love all the products on my collection. I do not tend to keep products I don’t like or that don’t work for me. I opt to return them. If some reason I miss that window I rehome the to family, friends or coworkers. I hate the idea of waisting money. I also hate the idea of over consuming, and the waist it creates which is why overall I’m purchasing less and being more conscious overall. My no buys in the eye shadow and foundation category. I just cannot justify. I’m on a low buy in concealer, and mascara. These category vary based on usage. I pan in an effort to use up my products!

Love this feedback. I need to be better about my low buys in certain categories and rotating my products!

I was forcing myself to use products I don’t love but now I decided forget it, I only want to use products I love so if I didn’t love it I would toss it. It really hurt to throw out, especially luxury makeup but it definitely made me realize that I need to be super picky about what I buy. Now I’ve been trying to stick to mini’s because I realized I can’t go through a product before it goes bad, unfortunately not all makeup comes in mini’s though I’ve kept to 3 lipsticks this summer on rotation and I haven’t even finished 1 yet and I have been using it the whole summer, all my other lipsticks in the meantime are going bad, I feel horrible

Same here. I've decreased my purchases by 70% this year so far. I've realized I don't want to buy makeup just to test it. I've been testing makeup for 2 years now and have realized what I think I'll like and use and what I won't. I still have so much makeup but it feels better not consuming as much stuff I know I won't use. There is no sense in using something you don't like. No feeling guilty in that. Time passes too fast not to only use what we enjoy!!!
@jasminem8125 ай бұрын
panning can definitely feel like a chore, but i think it's worth it when you finally empty a product. Personally, I'm very much against pointless waste, i think if you purchased something you are now responsible for that product. I dont like the idea of creating even more waste just because I was silly and purchased something i dont like that much. Unless something is gross or unusable, I always find a way to use it up, even if i have to get a little creative LOL. For example, I've taken to using lipsticks in shades I dont love on my lips as cream blushes, and I've gone through a ton that way. That being said, I think it's important to balance panning and using the parts of your collection that you actually like so you dont get burnt out
@KariMeghan5 ай бұрын
Agree. I do not throw products out unless they've gone bad, and I will tolerate an older product until the very end. If I don't like something, I try to resell it if I can or give it to my family. I love seeing my family enjoy something I've given them. For panning this year, tho, I've done a better job than I thought I could do. I'll have an update coming soon.

I don't enjoy panning products, it makes me feel pressured to use them. To me, using products that I love, makes me happy. When I see that for whatever reason I am not using a product, I put it on the chopping block. I have decluttered many things lately. One good thing is that I realize that makeup take a LONG time to use up. Thank you for sharing your products with us. I really enjoy your content, Kari. 🤍
