I have a few larger libraries - but when I bought OE I thought I'd give it a good test drive and this is one of the resulting pieces. Aside from a bit of reverb and a few slight velocity tweaks as I'm writing on the fly, this is pretty much the end result with no post production. Hope you enjoy it and don't forget to subscribe!
Thanks
Mike Jr.

Thank you Nicole . . . a number of people have requested a video on this piece / mixing and so forth . . . . there are just so many good ones out there already I just don't think one more from me would make a big impact. I can recommend you check out Tobias Scheel for excellent mixing and overall sound. He is on my site comments here . . . you will really enjoy his stuff!! I've found the more I listen to this (and I've yet to explore your other work - to be remedied) the more I'm amazed that this was "a test drive". While I still think some added dynamics would help, they would only make an excellent creation even better. Your sense of orchestral colour and balance fully supports your great thematic threads. You say you are no expert on mixing, but another notable aspect of this is the total clarity. Quite an inspiration.

Thank you so much for your kind comment. I'm really happy that you enjoyed it! OE is much more flexible than many people think. It isn't a top orchestral program like so many others on the market . . . . but the price point for what you get makes it a real deal in my opinion.

How the hell did I miss this? This is one of your best pieces.....or ANYONE'S best piece. Beautiful melodies and your trademark deft touch with the orchestration. So much detail. Throw in a crystal clear mix and you have an instant classic! You should be very proud. (Any mixing tips by the way Mike? I really strugge when it comes to the final mixdown. Some elements just can't be heard or some too muddy. I have a phobia regarding EQ - I'm not confident using it. I can hear absolutely every instrument in this track and this is the kind of mix I strive for.) Have a great day!

Hey Paul »»» You really are too kind. As far as mixing tips go I don't know what to say. I really don't think I'm the right guy to offer much in the way of advice in this área - especially to you. I normally mix on the fly and in the end if I hear something terribly out of sorts I make the appropriate small adjustments. (As I'm almost totally deaf in one ear I truly make an extra effort to try and get the balance right.)Again - thanks for the encouraging comments!!
@PaulCassidyOrchestrations
@PaulCassidyOrchestrations 8 жыл бұрын
Wow you create these amazing panoramic soundscapes monophonically?! I'm similar, my left ear is pretty much dud it just exists to keep my glasses on straight! Anyway....I mix on the fly too, I do it at the the same time as I lay down the music to maintain the balance. I try to avoid instruments that clash when orchestrating and I start with each mixer level at 50% to maximise headroom. I avoid EQ because the way I figure it is the guys who constructed these libraries know a hell of a lot more than I do. I have tried EQ before to bring elements out but it just ends up sounding unnatural. I guess I just don't really understand EQ. There are elements in my tracks that simply cannot be heard (or felt) which makes it pointless me adding them. I just thought you may have a secret recipe because all your tracks sound bright and clean and I can hear all the elements. I must be doing something wrong with orchestration. I'll figure it out. Anyway Mike rant over you have a great day! :)

No. But while I've decades of orchestral listening, a little bit of conducting and a little bit of composing, I only discovered DAWs etc recenly. Here I am, just like you suggested! I really like your music but I think it works best as a soundtrack for a movie than a stand alone piece because it's like it sings words to you! It's like reading a story or watching a movie where you can see the characters appreciating the peace of the countryside, for example, as in "A Simpler Time", or exploring a new, fantastic world, as in "A Flight to Fantasy". This last piece reminds me of stories like "Alice in the Wonderland" or "Wizard of Oz". Maybe you could try to compose for a movie? ;)

Great video. I have had trouble in OE 1. Every time I play the legato flutes with clarinets it doesn't play back the whole note. It just plays in back in staccato for some reason. Would you know why that is? I could really use help.
@TheMikeJr2001
@TheMikeJr2001 9 жыл бұрын
+Alpha Circle Hi,I was just looking at the settings assigned to that sample and I tried to simulate your problem, but I couldn't get it to play back as staccato. If I 'm not mistaken that sample comes as a mod-wheel default. Try clicking on it and changing it to velocity - that might help. You can always try asking the people at P.Sam . . . they usually respond within 24hrs. Sorry couldn't be of more help to you.

Hello, I really liked it! Love the adventure-magical-like cues :) I use OE too, I find it very good and fast. One thing I don't understand: how can you compose and orchestrate something like that on the spot? I mean, I set up my daw in a well organized way, with all the instruments I like to use ready to go etc., but I really don't understand the process of composing and orchestate at the same time on the spot. I usally write the music on a notation software, at least a basic piano track with harmony and melody (in a more or less depth, according to the case), and after I orchestrate on the daw. Can you tell me how can you manage to do it? Or give some tips, or link some video that shows the process (or wathever you want)? Thank you!

I'm actually trying to compose my own stuff, but I'm getting a delay from instruments like Cellos, Violins or Celestia. They happen to be a little delayed right after the beat while percussions and Piano Mystique are 100% on the beat. How do I solve this? Is there a way without 3rd party plugins? I user Cockos Reaper DAW, btw
@TheMikeJr2001

Hey Luis Try checking the amount of cache assigned to your DAW. Normally, the lower the better. I know most of my DAWs are set at 256 and the delay is at a minimum. +Apoesk21 I have both OE1 & 2 and despite of being a few years old, no one can't deny their potential, especially the Strings patches on OE1, they are just fenomenal and the latest update (v 1.1) make it even better. As a humble opinion OE1 just lacks of legatos on the Brass & Woodwinds patches, just one on each patch and the lack of speed control on the EFX and woodwinds runs, makes them hard to use, something that OE2 does have on some, hopefully the guys of ProjectSAM may update this in the future until they release (a guessing of mine) OE3, no doubt in my mind, that one will come.!!! ProjectSAM alongside of Cinesamples, rule the market as far as I am concerned.!!!

TheMikeJr2001 You are welcome! - Great to have feedback, you know :) As you know, I have Albion ONE, and I think there are some or a lot of libraries focusing on Epic sound. Witch is great.. But I would love to have a library for more mainstream ''classic'' music. Witch you show quit well.. ;) And ProjectSAM have a deal of OE1 and Swing! - Witch I would love to use for more commercial music! :D One thing, is OE1 a ensemble patch or does it have different instruments? Thanks - :)
@apoesk21
@apoesk21 8 жыл бұрын
Angel Mario Menendez Thank you fore your input! :) At this point I only have Albion ONE, witch is great!! - But mostly for epic sounding music.. I would like to have a library that focuses on a wider genre perspective. I have considered the Cinesamples, but I did not go with them, at this point.. What do you merge your OE1 with? - Other libraries, other than OE2? All the best Rune
@angelmariomenendez8807
@angelmariomenendez8807 8 жыл бұрын
Well my friend, I bought first OE2 but then watching ProjectSam walkthroughs I realized one complemented the other, although you can pretty much produce your tracks with either one, but when you have them both, the potential shall be limited only by your creativity. As per combining with other libraries ,well, I have both CineBRASS, Core and Pro and again, these libraries complement each other, it is not like Pro is better than Core or viceversa. I don't know where you are aiming to compose but in my case, I am not into Epic or Scoring type arrangements, I am into pop arrangements blending with that cinematic sound, and let me tell you, CineSamples and ProjectSAM are the best on the market, not to mention their customer support is amazing and sometimes you do need to rely also on that. I hope this helps.!!!

@TheMikeJr2001
@TheMikeJr2001 9 жыл бұрын
pigpog2307 Hey,Thanks for listening. As for your question . . . there are two tracks which are from EW - one is percussion and the other one you are asking about is a synth pad from Goliath. OE has only the barest of percussion sounds and I'm always having to pump up the percussion to get the colours I want. If you are only using OE, try this . . . double up the glock with the strings (kick up the reverb a bit) and lower their volume in the overall mix and I think you'll get about as close as possible to the sound of the bells.
