it serves as a countermeasure for the normal slide notes. with this new hold type, they're really forcing you to actually follow through the slides with your finger, hence tracing them because in normal hold/slide notes you can just cheese them by covering the whole judgement line with your hands, no need to move your fingers along

Here's a detailed explanation since people for some reason don't want to give people the information they're asking for They're called "Trace Notes". They're kinda similar to the slider notes in Phigros. You need to just have your finger down on the screen when the notes hit and they'll register, even without timing. What these notes add to gameplay is that they can be used liberally *inside* hold notes or directly after flicks in order to force your fingers to go in a certain direction. They can also be put at the end of normal hold notes and you don't need to release the note anymore, which makes the chart way less difficulty and way more fun. They also have a flick variant that works in the same way. Finally, they have these like, glowy hold things that are meant to guide your finger to where the next trace note will be, BUT, they barely use it for it's actual purpose and use it more to decorate the chart since 1, you do NOT need to hold those notes down, they're just meant to guide or confuse, and 2, they can do really complicated shapes with them. Including, but not limited to: the kanji for I Nan Desu, musical notes in I'm Mine, hearts in The Vampire, film tape in Cinema, and the character for "ma!" in Telecaster B Boy.
