I love this so, so much. Apples have been something of a theme for Mafuyu as far back as Mirage of Lights, and in Saying Goodbye to My Persona apples were used to represent Mafuyu's heart in all the trained version of the cards. And here, Mafuyu found a whole apple inside the lake - the representation of her heart - and even though it's painful, she could never get rid of it. Because for as much as Mafuyu's mother had taken away so many things from her, she was also the one to ironically gave Mafuyu her most important thing: her heart. The warmth that Mafuyu always seeks was first given by her mother, before it turned so cold; and similarly, her dream of becoming a nurse came from her mother staying by her side all day during the flashback in Mirage of Lights. For Mafuyu to move forward, she needs to acknowledge the duality of it all and not just one side of it: that her mother was both the one who had given her heart, and the one who had taken it away. As Kanade said, change is scary. But Mafuyu is not alone, and with everyone's support, I believe that she'd eventually be able to stop running, face her mother, and move forward; and I, for one, am looking for the day where the bud will grow, and the door to be unlocked in the future. "We're with you" has me in TEARS. Mafuyu is still afraid to be hurt by the things related to her past but as long as Niigo is with her, she'll be alright and I'm so happy for that. I love my babies more than anything. Mafuyu couldn't handle dealing with the lake alone but now that niigo was there with her, she could do anything. Just like she couldn't find her true self alone. There might be painful things to come but more importantly, there will be happy and precious memories too. There will always be good with the bad but the bonds you have will help you.

It's interesting how that apple mean differents things. It's a memory of a time where her mother felt warm, before the events of the amusement park where she started to guilt trip her. Which is the reason things are so difficult because that's the main reason it took so long for her to speak up or to accept the fact that her mother was hurting her, that her behavior toward her changed. She feels so much guilt for trying to find what make her happy because she still wants to think her mother is still that woman who was by her side when she needed her. Since the apple is connected that memory it also represent her dream of becoming a nurse. However, that apple carry another memory, the one of Kanade taking care of Mafuyu when she got sick, the time Mafuyu was trying to write the lyrics for the song that made her smile. That song as we have seen is really important for Mafuyu it was written specifically to make her happy. Everything is connected in some way because that mean Kanade and Niigo are the one who have taken the role of protectors and caregivers from her mother. Now they are the one who are looking out for her wellbeing and happiness, the ones who are becoming her family. That's the meaning of the door isn't it, a house is going to appear at some point. Making it official that she have a place for them in her heart. She love them so much. Niigo has my heart. Also that sekai is starting to looks like Mafuyu is going to have a palace Persona 5 style, now she need a Persona.

This is my interpretation. I think mafuyu finally found her true self, she just didn’t realize it yet. The sekai reflects her mind, it was empty but slowly began changing. And for a sudden area to appear? this reflects how the recent events had an impact on her, the river had everything that influenced her, that’s why I think her true self is behind the new door. she just needs to open it. but I think opening the door would take a time, we will see how things turn out. What I think is her true feelings. her mom influenced her, giving her the dream to be a nurse, but she snatched that dream away. however mafuyu had niigo in her side, and they also influenced her, which is why I think her new goal would be to continue making music with them, this time not to find herself but to help spread the warmth to the others like kanade and the others did for her. Mafuyu is a kind person and she wanted to help the others from the start. I really cant help but think of omori. Im curious, with how this story is shaping up, if the door leads to Mafuyu's true self. The sekai may even change and no longer be known as the "epmty sekai".
