Project: SV650 R6 Throttle Tube Mod

In this video I describe my experience swapping my OEM SV650 throttle tube for the R6 throttle tube. This mod greatly increases throttle sensitivity and allows me to have much quicker acceleration with less wrist twist as well as maintain freeway speeds more effortlessly. Installation was extremely easy as described in the video.
You can buy the R6 throttle tube from a variety of manufacturers. I bought mine used off eBay. Typically the cost is less than 10 dollars.

What year or color of R6 throttle tube did you install? 2003-2005 R6 tube (black color) is less aggressive than 2006+ R6 tube (non-R6S/white). If it was aftermarket /not OEM Yamaha, then you can't rely on color. SV650 = 1/4 turn to WOT 03-05 R6 = 1/5 turn to WOT 03+ R6S = 1/5 turn to WOT 98+ R1 = 1/5 turn to WOT 06+ R6 = 1/6 turn to WOT

Windscreen is working out really well. Zero problems with it so far. I changed my tuck position though. Before I would fully tuck behind the windscreen but Ive realized thats actually pretty bad for my back. Now I just half tuck with the top half of my helmet over the screen and this works just as well in terms of air flow.

by cable housing i dont mean the plastic shell that holds the throttle tube but the part of the throttle tube that holds the cable in place

The screen is mounted to the handlebars so it would move with it. But I see what you mean. If you move the handlebars back towards you, the screen would be forced to lean more forward to avoid hitting the tach. But I think you can adjust the clamps (that are at the handlebars) such that the windshield is moved further away from the tach which will allow you to maintain the same degree of lean. Im not 100% sure this will meet your needs but thats my best guess!

sorry for the late response. i have never had that problem. the only way i can picture the cable sliding off the R6 throttle tube is if you bent the cable housing during installation.

I believe you have to trim the throttle tube in order to reach WOT not to close throttle. I didn't bother doing that because I never go WOT anyway. I have definitely had no trouble closing throttle.

I've been reading up on this and it seems like the Gen 2 SV650S model that I have needs slight modification to the R6 throttle tube in order for the throttle to close properly. This seems like a really cool mod but I probably don't want to take the risk of having something like that happen to me.

the sv650 isn't affected by this issue, only the S model 2nd gen. I do think it's a pretty cool mod though, I just don't want to risk causing a problem with the throttle because it could be dangerous

Im curious, are you a pretty tall person? Otherwise, I don't see the point of adding risers since the SV sits you pretty upright to begin with.

Hey man! i loved my r6 throttle mod but recently it has been getting stuck in the housing. The cable inside the housing is sliding off getting jammed between the tube and the housing, have you had this problem? appreciate it man

You pretty much shouldn't be doing wheelies on an sv anyway. Get a dirtbike

SV's are not a good bike to wheelie. They lose oil pressure during a wheelie.

ok.......it's not a motogp bike with 300hp. Crack the throttle open in anything other than first and nothing is lifting.
