Kenny's videos are that very rare breed of videos that I thumbs up immediately upon opening. You will never know how many people you have helped to make great music with Reaper, but please do know YOU ARE APPRECIATED!

Just to back that up - I'm new to Reaper and the speed at which I've been able to get up and running thanks to Kenny's videos is incredible. They're the benchmark for how to do tutorial videos as far as I'm concerned - clear, concise, helpful and practical 👍

Perfect vid as always, Kenny. Project Templates and Track Templates were a game changer for me. So much time saved, parameters for synth plugins already mapped.... just perfection. Reaper rules, forever.

I use templates a lot. I put in a starter MIDI item in each virtual instrument lane as well. I also create track templates for the stuff I use less but want to load quick (be sure to save the track temple with track items checked). I also have some track group templates set up as well for things like my sampler where a single virtual intrument takes input from many MIDI tracks. Reapers template system is a real time saver.

I've been using project templates for years, some with media on different tracks. I only just noticed today that project media is *not* saved in the folder where the project template is. The only way I can find to get around this issue is to do a "save as" in the Reaper resource path, project templates folder with the move (or copy) media to project directory selected. Surely there must be a way to save media in the same folder when saving project templates (or are we not supposed to include media on the tracks in project templates)?

I love reaper! In this video you showed the sampler and you had the sounds routed to different tracks. Can you do a video on that. That’s an awesome idea! I’d like to route all the drums to their own dedicated tracks. All the snares to a track all the kicks etc etc.

Very nice! I can make a template for rock music, where i have tracks for drums, rock guitars, basses, etc. For pop songs, where pianos, violins etc. For edm with synths. I don't have to do all the repetitive works again and again. Just add bunch of instruments, like 10 tracks. Mix all of them. EQ them. Save all this as template and BOOM. You can make multiple songs with this template very quickly :D

🐱‍👓 Thanks very much Kenny.. I find myself in the live recording / jam circumstances using the same set up and with the same group of intstruments and players so tweaking and saving master templates is very helpful to import new audio tracks and get to work ... I have a number of saved fx chains for particular instruments and also implement the master track chain as well ... this will definetly streamline my workflow even more.. 👍 🎶

I want to create two project templates, 1 for songwriting/arranging and the other for mixing. My question is, after I am finished writing/arranging the song how can I take the audio files of the whole production to my mixing template?

Is there a way to import a project template into an existing project? For example: You have all of your audio track already in place, but you want to use a project template or someone sends you a reaper file for you to mix and you want to use your mixing template? Thanks!

Kenny, I noticed you put in a compressor on every track. I use a folder track with a compressor to cover all the subtracks then add in a compressor on selected individual tracks if needed. This cuts down on a ton of overhead.
@c3r1c38
@c3r1c38 4 жыл бұрын
While that can cut down on CPU usage it also engenders completely different results. There's a reason why almost every large-format console since the SSL E-series (if not a few units before that one) have a compressor on every channel in addition to a mix/master bus compressor.
@REAPERMania
@REAPERMania 4 жыл бұрын
@@c3r1c38 It's definitely different but I also like using both. I just kept it simple for the purposes of this video.
@jppagetoo
@jppagetoo 4 жыл бұрын
@@c3r1c38 I agree that it is done that way. And do know why. I do use individual track compression if needed but I find most times a bus compressor achieves an acceptable result. If I was mixing for a pro-level project I probably would do more track level compressor stuff. But to keep resource use down, I add in track compressors when required instead of loading them every time and then turning them off or removing them.

Kenny, Great videos. I've learned a lot from them. Here's a question... What's the best way to delete a project template without screwing up other files? I've had issues copying one project to a new project. Some files in the original project gets moved to the new project. As a result, files are missing when I try to reopen the original file. Maybe you can do a video on how to recover (or prevent) when this happens???

I use some scripts (Global sampler, MX Tuner and some other) in every projects but these are for some reason not saved in my default template. Is there a way to get these saved in my default template to avoid having to add the every time?
