My favorite tidbit for this song is that the character is going on a "Wild Weasel" mission late at night. Wild Weasel is where you send a plane at low altitude with little support and absolutely no sanity to take out air defenses that ground troops can't get to easily or to clear the way for future planes. The US's Wild Weasel squadron's official motto is YGBSM: "You Gotta Be Shittin' Me" The reason why I like this factoid is because the "pings" in the song sound like *SONAR* pings. Like you're going on a submarine hunt. And it's awesome.

In Jose’s video he discusses how there are notes for your teammates, and that when they are present the music will hint to this. This is why the music is so different here, it is a unique level in that you are completely and totally alone.

Project Wingman, and by extension Ace Combat as a whole, is what you get when you take the cool factor from Top Gun, the off-the-wall story telling from Metal Gear Solid, the final 20 minutes of Independence Day and the endless deluge of targets and missiles you would see during any battle scene from Macross. Everyone has different reasons for liking PW/AC but at the end of the day, the one thing that everyone can agree with is that "Jets Are Cool- The Videogame." I'm a huge aviation nerd, who is practiced in a variety of complex, study level civilian and combat aircraft simulators. And while that stuff is great in its own regard I always end up coming back to Ace Combat for the sheer fun factor, sometimes all I want to worry about is tailing bandits in my glaringly overpowered version of a real aircraft, impossibly stuffed with hundreds of missiles but hey, we don't ask questions about the realism of it all when we're having this much fun.

The songs are absolutely in campaign order! The progression of the songs is one of my favorite parts of the soundtrack! The best part is that we've gotten through a lot of the musical setup! Things are going to get even spicier very quickly! I usually give a big fat explanation of these songs here in the comments, but in this case that's kinda about it...you go in solo at night and break a bunch of ground-based AA defenses while some commander on the ground makes creepily accurate estimations about you based on how your engine sounds. I recall this is also the mission that introduces the "advanced" AA guns and SAMs that rapid-fire at you from long range and even shoot down the missiles you fire at them if you launch them from far enough out for them to react.

I'd say Project Wingman is like the absolute best Ace Combat game you could ever expect from a team that could fit in a minivan. Is the production value as sharp and crisp as Bandai Namco can afford to dish out? No. Is it even on the same atmospheric layer as the bottom of the barrel? Definitely not.

1:31 Neither was the Federation. In this mission, you’ve been sent to clear a path to a major communications relay. The problem though, is that security is so tight, sending even a small squadron would set off alarms and every enemy within hundreds of miles will quickly come crashing down on you. So what your commander decides is that you will be sent alone… At midnight… In a fast-attack bomber. Fun fact: In this type of mission, you would be referred to as “Wild Weasel”

Game is great and I'd definitely watch a playthrough. This song plays during the first night mission which is also a solo mission with you taking out a federation radar facility. IMO the music perfectly fits each mission and characters in it.

The game is pretty easy to get into - there's no complex flight model or controls, but even if the basic scheme is too much for you, it is possible to switch to novice controls or even mouse controls (even though it's not the way the game should be experienced, but at least could serve as a training wheels while you leaning the game mechanics). Other than that, it's a solid action game with a lot of dialogues and events that won't let you get bored.

@@cleverdumbcaptain I just found that out while googling something else showdown related and I'm fucking shook. I scrubbed his channel with a toothbrush looking for it, and couldn't find it at all! I need a bigger toothbrush.
