The worst part is have to level up to Carpentry 6 in order to create stairs. In previous versions you could build a wooden floor from inside of a window on second floor

Yes for me I always try to get the carpentry skill books and watch the TV woodcraft programmes at the beginning. This is one of the cool tips in the game. On a trailer home you can drop a few water butts on the roof and have a shower plumbed in too. The water is all clean when it comes out of a plumbed in sink, not tainted like the rain water usually is.

I do the same every time a settle on a base, put all of the pots outside to collect the rain

Yes and if you catch any, bring it indoors and put it in the oven to clean it while the power is still on.
