OUR FIRST PROJECT, it's happening!
If you love watching Brupeg and want to see us do more community projects, see extended episodes and you're able to help us continue, please consider supporting the project each week with a few dollars / brupeg
In this episode we detail what it is and what we will be doing with our work with the Australian Navy Cadets.
We have a LOT of prep work still do to on Brupeg to get her ready for Cadets to be running all over her decks and the electrics are still an ongoing project.
Damon is back and forth a few times on the boat sorting the last few pieces of the new electrical install plus solving a dilemma which had us stumped.
Duncan has organised a week with us (next episode) to solve a few BruNet challenges we have found as part of the new electronics system, and with that and a few building jobs for Dame, the boat will be ready for our first project.
We are really grateful to be here and enjoying being tied up alongside the Navy Cadet training facility.
Thanks for watching and for your support

I am so pleased that your first project is working to the Australia Navy to develop future naval officers and or better citizens and future leaders in the community. The cadet program is excellent and an active program here in Canada. You are both awesome. 🇨🇦

As an former Air Training Corps cadet, and unable to have a lot of time around aircraft it was disappointing. The chance you folks are going to give these cadets will be a life time memory that they will cherish. Congratulations on getting involved with our future leaders.

you would benefit hugely with a bow thruster. I had a 40ft 8 ton launch with a Cummins 6BTA, it was a pig to move around in a wind, you have much more windage. I fitted a bow thruster, it transformed the maneuverability. even once gave me steering when I lost the rudder cable in a marina!

Glad to see Jess is better, if you would install a larger diameter wheel at the helm, you wouldn't have to turn it so much . If you ever pull the ship out of the water you should install a water jet bow thruster. Have a great day

Perhaps a piece of "U" channel spanning both aft gates would make a good lock. Hinge it on one gate and put a latch or pin on the other to secure it. Working with the Navy Cadets might get you an extension with immigration.

Best wishes form Clay (UK).

You should think about changing that double door solution to a single side opening door as that would be easier to lock and limit how could be opened. Doing so would let you create a stop on the outside for instance so the door could only be opened inwards and dine right a lock could then be easily be applied so that it wouldn't be in the way at all. Maybe a spring loaded lock that would auto lock the door if closed would be good.

Gate locks - a suitably sized inverted stainless steel U channel from one side of one bulkhead to the other - welded/hinged on one side - would solve the problem for both the single and double gate. No latches or holes in the deck. A similar set up is used for kid proof gates in kindergarten playgrounds in Sweden... A spring loaded bolt holds the free end in place when closed... Something similar could be used on the other side when open...

Hi Damian - professional insulator here in Canada - By the looks of your “heat wrap” it’s either fibreglass insulation or man made mineral fibre such as rockwool that is inside the silicone impregnated blanket. Either of these will experience a “burn off” of binders during initial heat up. Unless it continues over time- it won’t be an issue. If it is indeed burn off then it will stop after a few hours at operating temperature. Cheers Aaron

I've always wondered why larger vessels with a single engine don't have a small pair of 'auxiliary' rudders just forward of the prop that remain in neutral until reverse is engaged. then they work in unison with the main rudder, but the prop wash is deflected to move the aft port or starboard even with little forward motion of the hull. The pivots can be welded on and the 'rudderettes' linked with a bar so only one hole needs to be made in the bottom. It would take a fair bit of engineering, but I know you guys could gin up something cheap and workable!

2:29 for inspirational purpose only: my 10m Riverboat (Rhine, Germany) doesn’t care about rudderposition aswell when backing up. BUT it doesn’t help much to turn the rudder in the „I’d really love to go in that“-direction either. So I just let the rudder hard in the anticipated/needed direction for the forward pushes. It does not only prevent a helm-exercise if you have a quite stiff steering system… does anyone seem to have one of those 🫣 it gives you a much quicker reaction when stopping/going forward aswell. But best of it: even when she’s still floating backward without in gear. You can give her a light push (in idle forward) in the wished direction without stopping her totally to steer her. Try it - you be surprised how you can make the best (quick turn) out of the worst (no reaction when going astern)

Wow 10 years.. and I think I'm with you for four years. Thank you so much for all the inspiration, the hard work, the engineering.. I learned a lot from you. Congratulations to this first project which is quite a milestone: Going from building to using and enjoying (not that the work on the boat will ever stop...). I'm curious about two things: 1.) Do you regret not installing noise dampening material in the engine room? In the video audio it seems that the engine - although it sounds just beautifully - and the genset are noisy throughout the boat? Could be an issue on long passages. 2.) You don't have any autopilot yet, do you? Most probably you'll need one for long passages. Warm greetings from on board of MY JULIUS, berthed at the Oste river near the Northsea, Germany.

I noticed while leaving the dock to travel up river the steering appeared very heavy and the wheel seemed to be something you would see on a car or small boat? Single screw boats such as yours need to be lock to lock much quicker than your doing for successful manoeuvres. PS you guys are great and I wish you well !
@ProjectBrupeg
@ProjectBrupeg 26 күн бұрын
Yes its something we have been thinking about onboard. its 7 turns lock to lock. We want to add a larger wheel as a first step to make the turning effort easier but yes we would like to do something to lighten the load as we do need to swing the rudder around a bit when turning in tight spots.
