I love how every idea is tested rather than just theorized. From my experiences, even when youve done all the research in the world and considered all the influencing factors and the expected result appears to be black and white, the ACTUAL RESULTS can surprise. This guy's methods and experiments definitively answer so many things I've often wondered.

I used the Saber mix in my 2001 GMC Sierra as recommended by a local mechanic one ounce to 5 gallons and it gummed up my throttle body. My gas pedal eventually jammed and I had to have the throttle body professionally cleaned. Regular AmsOIl is the best for the engine but not as a fuel additive. For that I do use AmsOIl PI.

Ive used Amsoil products for 45 years since it was introduced to dirt bike racers , like there product and would use more of it if you could get it. I live south of Boston and every time I find an Amsoil dealer and wanna purchase a product they dont stock it . I think they shoot themselves in the foot by not having a retailer distribute there products. They were the initial proponents of synthetic lube products and it took a long time for people to grasp synthetics , had they had better marketing there products would have flooded the market. To this day I dont know where to purchase Amsoil products. I am a firm believer in sea foam and have proven to many people how well and effective it is. Good job with videos !!

Great video. I personally would not worry about varnish build-up in the carb's float bowl as long as nothing is loose or flaking off in there. Usually, water and dirt are in the bowl, and they are definitely problems. I worked for Sears back in the day fixing mowers and other lawn equipment, so I have seen my share of small engines. I love the clear cylinder head footage that you included. I have to show that to my science-teacher wife for her class. The artsy slomo shots of the fuel bouncing around in the clear tank, and the smoke around the muffler, were a hoot! --Old Guy.

I cut and maintain five (5) properties of friends and family. At the beginning of the season I mix a 25 gallon fuel caddy with BP Ultra, two (2) cans of Seafoam and double the recommended amount of Startron. Based on your research here, I started using the Seafoam and have had MUCH better performance results out of all my small engines, enabling me to stagger full tune-ups on a 2 - 3 year cycle to keep the cost down. 1. I found the BP Ultra (93 octane) helps prevent knocking in the higher revving, hotter running 2-cycle engines and it is a much cleaner fuel; better filtered fuel from the start. 2. Based on your research here and seeing your results, I now use Seafoam exclusively in both my small engines and my car. All my engines are running smother and more efficient. As for my 2005 Chevy Colorado that is 223,000+ miles, it has some of the best gas mileage and power it has ever had. 3. The Startron helps stabilize the fuel to prevent the added 10% ethanol from absorbing moisture out of the air. Ultimately, it is that moisture absorption that hurts the small engines. I do not know if Startron has any 'cleaning' properties and would love to see a video on it. Thank You

We do the same as you. We add an ounce or two of Seafoam per gal and an once of Startron. Seems to keep the small engines clean and happy. They always start on the first pull. I especially like it in the winter when I don't need to choke the snowblowers. I'm a bit confused on your post. Have you stopped using Startron all together and 100% Seafoam?

Todd, I don't think what you saw inside the fuel bowl was varnish. On slot of Small Engines they have a protective coating on the inside of the fuel bowl to protect against rust. Consider using a continuous spray bottle. I've been using one for seafoam and its great. Search amazon for "Groom Industries Flairosol Solvent Free Aerosol Type Sprayer" and you'll see what I'm talking about. That sprayer puts out a very fine and consistent mist and will spray more than just water (seafoam, isopropyl alcohol, dish soap and water). I've been wondering about using the spray bottle to mist an engine of mine but would love to see your results.

How much margin do you have before a problem arises? For example, with seafoam I've never had issues with creeping up to the amount needed without stalling. With water the only thing I worry about is hydrolock. Is water spray similar to seafoam where you can dial in the amount or is the amount of water needed so tiny that you need very fine control?

Thanks for another great video 👍. I have 3 vehicles and I have used the sea foam spray to decarbonize the values and pistons on two. One's a 99 Ford ranger with 272k on it. And the other is a 08 Chevy truck with about 125k. Both had great results. Not a big smoke show, however the ranger did have a couple of big "farts" . The third vehicle is a 15 beetle. I used the CRC di & turbo cleaner. It has about 46k. Still no big smoke show. Per instructions for both, I let them soak. Then the best part was the driving like you stole it for about 10 minutes. All three ran better than before the cleaning. But my beetle seemed to benefit the most. I do not have a scoop by the plug I pulled did look a little better. Thanks for that video 💪💯

With direct injection engines (virtually all vehicle engines sold now), the intake valves are where the serious carbon buildup problem will be, and that is how I'd like to see these liquid engine cleaning solutions tested. My impression is that media-blasting will continue to be what's required to remove heavy intake valve deposits from direct-injected engines.

Except schaeffer hardly has a selection of multi-grade oils, especially for imports. Motul would still be the preferred for imported (European and Asian). I am impressed with Schaeffer's full SAPS lineup, they should have more than 2 types of viscosity variants though.

Hey! I heard from some "old time mechanic" that if u spray some water in the engine in high revs it will clean engine from inside, Of course you dont want use too much water so that engine won't seize. Btw ... Nice videos! Greetings from Finland!

Amsoil seems to have changed the formula since you made this video, Todd; the formula's more potent now. The old one was to be used with 20 or fewer gallons of gas, the new one can be used in the 25 - 30 gallon range.
@waterloo1231002 жыл бұрын
It’s actually less potent because before you weren’t supposed to over add it per oz. Now you can

I lucked out and found you did a video on this subject. I vote for power foam and the PI works very well in a vehicle because of the miles you drive vs the time running in a small engine with one quart of fuel. Last month I purchased a vehicle with a Chevy 454 that had a bad case of after run, so much so it was difficult to shut off, I had to put it in gear and turn it off and then I had to stand on the brakes! Twenty gallons and one bottle of PI later no more after run. I took it to the California smog station and the emissions were on the super low end of the emissions scale. One bottle every 4,000 miles does the trick. Great video as usual!

I'd like to see some Royal Purple products thrown in - I've used them an Amsoil and could swear my car feels faster with Royal Purple in it. Some Brad Penn oil would be interesting as well - I've used that in 60's flat tappet cam cars due to the high zinc content.

@bertgrau92464 жыл бұрын
unedited You're correct the zink did help, unfortunately the EPA says it hurts exhaust emissions, so oil companies are required to remove it from oil. Some companies do make oil with high Zink content, but it's expensive

It does not do well lots of carbon build up and spark plug fouling I've tried in in my generator to increase fuel volume thus increasing run time per dollar spent. Off-road diesel is much cheaper then gasoline. Anyways it just causes headaches I would not recommend running any amount of diesel mixed in your gas tank.

I wouldn't advice.I have been putting 3x on 60 Lit of gas 1 lit of diesel for my non stop trip of 1500km,car was Audi V6 / 2.8 Lit.Since then I never gain light color of inside of exhaust pipe,I presume this "additive" wasn't good for the car,beside car engine run nicely..

As an AMSOIL dealer these are always good to see. I have to say the reason I became a dealer is because I bought products from a dealer and fell in love with the products. I use the API in my vehicles every oil change for the motor flush and 6k for the API and I notice a difference especially when I first switch a car over and clean the systems up for AMSOIL use.

This looks to be by far the best cleaning option compared to the other two. The only problem is you used two products at once so there is no way to tell which one made the biggest difference or if they work equally well. I wish you did separate tests for these products.

The real issue is that he'd have to have 3 or 5 engines with similar wear and varnish in order to do more specific tests. I am a stickler for the scientific method and controls, but I understand he's doing this stuff on a garage budget, not grant money.

I think an additive called Star-tron might be good at dissolving varnish inside of carbs but maybe not. Fresh hi-test gas works the best for me after I get through doing what cleaning I can do. I always put a dab of Star-tron in and sooner or later I get to run with the choke off. Who knows. It;s supposed to be an enzyme deal, whatever that is.

I bet if continued use of Amsoil PI and Foam for a full cutting season would clean the engine up. Plus use Amsoil motor oil for lawn equipment.
