It's just, like, a very adventurous shot, the lava flowing down, and your way out is inside this vocano already covered and you fly there. The wall kicks part in the cool cool mountain level seems like a massive difficulty spike. Goes from slides where it only takes a little effort to not fall off into requiring 4 wall kicks in a row or death.

Playing the game via emulation imo has always been the best way to play it, but I'll always be okay with 64DS's controls
