How Blast Furnace Ironmaking Works

Blast Furnace ironmaking accounts for around 72 % of global steel production owing to its ability to produce large quantities of high-quality iron which can then be converted into high-quality steel. However, Blast Furnace ironmaking also accounts for around 90 % of the steel industry's carbon dioxide emissions and around 6 % of global greenhouse gas emissions (across all sectors).

Will the charge not fall to the bottom of the furnace as soon as dumped from top? Why does it descend slowly? Is it because of heavy hot air blast?
