Everyone always tries to say the 9G Sport is underrated from the factory, but your results are the same that I’ve seen on our rollers. 160whp from 190bhp is about a perfect 16% drivetrain loss on your stock run, about what is to be expected from a modern drivetrain setup. The car does feel strong for a 190 HP car even in stock trim, but once tuned they really wake up. We typically see around 190whp with a PCD and intake/tune. Stock Sport exhaust is plenty of flow for the engines requirements so you really don’t gain anything but noise going after the cat. The stock intake on this car is well designed also, but there is a little power to be had at WOT with a good intake after playing with fueling and MAF scaling a bit. Solid information here brother.

Now add the Sprint booster to get rid of the drive by wire lag to the throttle body and you will be amazed. I bought a Sprint booster for my '13 Accord V6 M/T and it got rid of any lag due to the electronic throttle response and that car was already very immediate with application of throttle. Costs around $300 no matter the car!

I will admit that I haven't done my research on that, but I feel like the problem it is designed to resolve can also be resolved via electronic tuning. I would say that, if you were planning on building your car more than just a little bit, you would be better off cost-wise with a tuner from Hondata or K-Tuner. With those, you could do a lot more, as well. I will have to look into these, though. Thanks for bringing them to my attention!

3-5hp doesn't seem much. But considering, its a simple mod for a N/A vehicle, that's actually not bad for simply bolting in a helix spacer. I got a CAI and at custom cat-back on my Spec-V, so I am curious to see if a spacer really does actually do something. Nice to see people actually dynoing these and not just saying "oh it adds power." Course to add, I love some companies say you get 22hp just by adding this on to your throttle body. Needless to say, don't believe that, there is no possible way that these could do that.
@ProjectStreetRoyals7 жыл бұрын

Interesting video man. I have a different car which is 2015 Mazda 3 2.5l but I am debating whether to buy throttle body spacer from afe power. But after doing some research and reading forum, some people believe its waste of money claiming they don't do anything. Do you think throttle body spacer works depending on the car?
@ProjectStreetRoyals3 жыл бұрын
Well, I only have evidence that a TBS increases power on Honda K24 engines. However, I don't see any reason why a TBS wouldn't work for a Mazda 3. The big problem with TBSs is that they don't make enough of a change for you to notice anything. Your car won't feel faster and, unlike with some other modifications that sometimes don't add much power (like cold air intakes),your car won't sound faster. So, spending $100 for no noticeable difference is a kind of a waste, from that perspective. Of course, if you want some additional power which is easy to obtain, since a TBS is easy to install, it wouldn't be a bad idea to get one.
@naoatsumi55763 жыл бұрын

So this throttle body spacer would add some actual HP increase? Got a 2017 accord sport and want a bit more power increase. Got a intake but don't seem to get much but like 2-3 HP. Thanks.
@ProjectStreetRoyals3 жыл бұрын
Yes, it definitely does. The difference is not noticeable, but maybe it would be a little bit with the intake. Just keep in mind that the TBS will move your intake a little bit. So, if you don't have much room to play, you may have to modify the placement of the intake's mount. One of my friend's had this problem occur with his aFe Takeda intake.
@mr.speyside52407 жыл бұрын
You won't get much power from that motor. It's the bastardized version of the Si motor. They detuned it on purpose for "mpg" numbers and it isn't really a great motor designed for performance. Sadly because it does have a nice torque curve in the mid range but that's it.
@ProjectStreetRoyals7 жыл бұрын
You can clear that tune just fine. It's hardly down on power compared to the Si. With a free-flowing exhaust and a K-Tuner or Hondata setup, you can match the Si. Of course, this car still weighs more, but it isn't meant for racing anyway, so it's not a problem in my eyes.
@mr.speyside52407 жыл бұрын
Project Street Royals My concern is I want to keep my 2015 but am considering getting the 2017 with the v6. I want the new Si but don't like the 1.5L being over tuned the way it is. That motor won't last long but the v6 is only automatic. First world problems lol

I am maybe off topic. But I had a question for the Honda accord sports. Have they made any turbo kits out there for them already? I like the 2016 accord sport manual and was thinking of different options of putting in more power. I haven't seen or herd of a turbo accord sport out there just curious.
@ProjectStreetRoyals8 жыл бұрын
+Victor Rivera Technically, any car that is gas or diesel powered can have a turbo setup. Some cars, like Honda Civics have a lot of companies make turbo kits for them specifically, however, a lot of cars do not have this luxury and require a custom setup where you buy the turbo, piping, intercooler, and everything else separately and then get it all to fit. I know someone with a 2014 Honda Accord V6 with a custom turbo set up making over 400 hp, however it usually costs more to do a custom set up like this because you will most likely need a shop to fabricate all of the piping and such.

What if you put many spacers in a row. Does it improves or decrase the performance? I know it seems to be dumb but what if it really adds power?

I've watched a few of these videos about spacers and I still believe that if the distance of the throttle body from the intake manifold made a significant increase in power without sacrifices to fuel economy, Honda engineers would have placed the throttle body at a different distance from the intake. IF this half an inch gains anything, why wouldn't Honda place the throttle body over by the air filter? That would be a gain of over a foot? Just imagine the gains in power if all you have to do is move the throttle body away from the intake manifold! I can't believe Honda would not go for the basically free power if they just tweak their intake design by an inch.
@ProjectStreetRoyals6 жыл бұрын
That is a fairly valid argument. However, think about all the things companies, especially Honda, do to save just the tiniest fraction of a mile for gallon. For example: I own a 1996 Honda Civic LX. On the EX, the intake manifold is different. It allows for better and more efficient air travel, whereas the LX has one that specifically restricts that same air travel. The differences in fuel economy (just based on the intake manifold) is so minute, you cannot even tell the difference in day-to-day driving, but you get a 6 hp boost off if you swap the EX's manifold onto the LX, which I have. Further, it is especially not Honda's goal to "make power." They want their cars to make sufficient power to not feel unbearably slow, be able to pass people on two-lane highways, and maybe be a little bit of fun when you want it to. Cold air intakes, in some cases, do the exact same thing: increase hp without sacrificing any fuel economy; in fact, they increase fuel economy if you drive properly. The jist here is that Honda does NOT want to give us more power than is necessary to accomplish their goals for the car and Honda wants fuel economy over everything else, for the most part.

Will a throttle spacer fit if I already have a takeda intake. Or will it push the takeda past its proper positioning. Is it worth it to get both. Cus the intake already gave me +13hp for 100 bucks idk if I should justify the 2hp less on midrange
@ProjectStreetRoyals8 жыл бұрын
+Jay Bisky It will fit, but you will have to "modify" the placement. I know people that have just gotten a couple of brackets and a bolt to extend it back to the original spot, so it won't be impossible. And having both definitely will not be a mistake if you want more power, but if you are just looking for "bangs for you buck", then no, don't get both.

@ProjectStreetRoyals3 жыл бұрын
I have not seen any dyno results for these cars when they have both a TBS and an intake. I imagine there would still be gains from adding an intake, but I am unsure of how many gains there would be. If you go to aFe's website, they estimate what kind of power increases you should see from the intake, alone. Those numbers would probably be a decent indication, as long as you subtract a few horsepower and lb. ft. of torque from them.

@ProjectStreetRoyals9 жыл бұрын
Sergio Alcaraz The two dyno tests were done back to back, so the horsepower and torque numbers were instant without ANY tuning of the ECU. It is actually a very simple part. The MPG gain, I did a test on not too long ago, but it did not even increase 1.5 in total. It you are looking to gain MPG, this would not be the only part you need to make a substantial increase. I would recommend adding the Takeda intake to it to improve it further.

Mscellobass Oh yes, of course, I am not one to judge, so that is perfectly okay. However, increasing power gets pretty expensive most of the time and you won't get very much with minor modifications. A safe estimate from all the parts I listed previously provide 25 to 40 horsepower altogether, which is a nice boost. However, not including install (since I install all my parts myself) it will surpass $2,000 for all of those parts.

Haha it's all good man, I have to edit each response like 3 times before it is spelled properly. Honestly, I would prefer a manual in a performance vehicle, but this one is not going to be a performance build. It is nice to be able to control the gear you are in with the CVT though. It drives very smoothly, but another downside is that you are limited to how much power you can have on the motor. I spoke with Honda officials about it and they said they would not recommend putting a turbo on when you have a CVT, but exhaust and CAIs are just fine.

@ProjectStreetRoyals8 жыл бұрын
+Henry Chinique Yes, you will not harm your car. Now, if you were thinking of doing much more than that (internals, upgraded block, turbo, etc.) then you would need to consider swapping to a manual transmission. It's not a good idea to put much more than 230-250 hp on the CVT trans because it is not meant to handle a lot of power. You can find the throttle body spacer on afepower.com.

I was able to install the afe throttle body spacer and can tell the torque difference off the line from a stop. I also like the hiss it makes when rolling around town on sport mode. It is definitely audible and this along with my kandn cai makes a big difference in throttle response, engine tone and power. No check engine light either and I don't think a tbs and cai would cause a cel. Any more mods and yes I could see the Accord throwing a code but none so far. Also, I've ran 89 gas/mid grade and felt that I got a little more power. Is it bad to run 89 or even 91 in a car that requires 87? I just noticed the car was me responsive and effective at producing power when at like 75% throttle on 89 than 87. I am just a little worried that the engine won't adjust the timing properly in the motor and will run improperly and cause issues later on. Also, do you know what cvt fluid I can get aftermarket that is of much higher quality than hondas oem cvt fluid? I also run pennzoil ultra platinum with pureplus technology and noticed a difference in how my engine performs. Thanks
@ProjectStreetRoyals8 жыл бұрын
Glad to see the product worked for you! And no, there is absolutely no harm in running higher octane like that in a car that requires unleaded fuel. What you do have to realize though, is that running 91 in a car that doesn't require premium will not benefit you and even if it does, the extra money you spend will cancel it out. Unless you have big mods like forged internals or an upgraded turbo system, there is really no need in going above 87 or 89 octane.

@@joesipr I would say no. Primarily, I made this video to prove that these parts make power. However, I do not believe it makes enough power on its own to justify the purchase (you likely will not notice a difference when driving). Furthermore, it you were to get an intake, it would likely replace most of the power you gain from this. So, what I am saying is that you are better off going with just an intake, really. But, I would need to conduct more research and tests to find out, for sure, whether an intake + a TBS would make extra power, which I do not believe it would, at this time.

Mscellobass I know what you mean! I have 2013 Honda Accord Sport CVT and it's very hazardous when merging into traffic on the Highway especially when Econ Mode is on. When Eco mode is on I have to nearly plant my feet to the ground and let the engine scream in order to get up to speed and not get hit from behind or side swept. I just now usually turn off eco mode and it helps acceleration a little bit more. It's the CVT that makes throttle response slow from a start. Next car I will buy will be the Honda Accord V6 regular Automatic or another car brand 4 cylinder with a regular automatic. No more CVTs for me from now on. Too hazardous. Safety > MPG. Honestly, my mom's 2009 Honda Accord 4 cyl EX regular auto is way faster and get up to speed without being hazardous. Not to mention, it's more fun too. Honda definitely cut costs and corners and made their new cars substandard all around. It definitely shows in comparison.
@ProjectStreetRoyals9 жыл бұрын
I honestly do not understand the whole "lack of power or throttle response" issue here. I NEVER drive in auto and if you want a quicker throttle response, drive in "S" or "Sport" instead of regular "Drive." Uses a bit more gas, but is much sportier with a faster acceleration.
