You've probably figured it out by now, but you can always wash your big pot using the outside shower. :) Get solar, good house batteries and a good inverter and you'll be able to run the microwave and the AC. Roadtrek's are classics. The carpet comes up outside the bathroom to reveal the shower pan and the curtain goes around it on a rail from the ceiling. The fan in the bathroom pulls out any odours. I would much rather have a Roadtrek than a regular van. Jon in rural BC, Canada

My grandparents had this RV when I was growing up. It's cozy, but has everything you need. The toilet is fine as long as you run the fan when you're using it. But then you have to deal with chemicals and dumping.
@ProjectUntethered3 жыл бұрын
These things are build to last! Yeah, honestly I'm less worried about the smell and more just lazy to have to dump all the time - especially when 90% of the time we have public restrooms when we need them. We'll see if that changes when we take her down to Mexico!

It's years since our converted ambulance took us the length and breadth of the Uk, but on our boat, a pressure cooker is a great choice. The lid seals close so less chance of dangerous spills and it uses SO much less gas to cook soups, stews, curries vegetables, everything. It looks as though you're having a great time!

I'd like to see pics of that converted ambulance - it sounds sweet! I never considered (or have ever used) a pressure cooker. Definitely gonna look into it though! I've got so much adult stuff to learn!

I absolutely ADORE what you have done with your Roadtrek!!! I got one and it looks so BORING on the inside! Please tell me how you did that light decoration in the back. How did you attach the little lights and how did you power them? And OMG! YOU MUST TELL ME HOW YOU DID THE DISCO LIGHTS! I WANNA HAVE DANCE PARTIES IN MY ROADTREK TOO!!!!!!!!
@ProjectUntethered3 жыл бұрын
Hey Rita! The good news is decorating is super simple. The lights are battery-bowered fairy lights we picked up on Amazon. We just used scotch tape to put them up - nothing fancy! And the disco lights are also easy peasy. We bought those on Amazon as well for a few bucks. I'm not sure if this was the exact one's we bought, but they look similar ( amzn.to/3smKJL2 ). The only catch with those is you'll need a USB to plug them into. We installed that little USB charger in the shelf as you can see. But if you don't want to do that, you can always just use your laptop! Send us pics when you finish decorating - we wanna see! :-)

How do you keep your van cool when you’re away from it during the Summer so your electronics don’t fry and same for Winter, how do you keep it warm when away from it for hours at a time?
@ProjectUntethered2 жыл бұрын
That’s a good question - I suppose we were never in such extreme temperatures that would be enough to damage electronics. The only thing that sometimes worried me was our laptops which would be very cold in the mornings and sometimes have condensation. I think it helped to sleep with them inside our pillowcase so our body heat helped keep them warm. Then in the morning it’s recommended to let them slowly warm up before turning them on. As far as heat, we were in some pretty hot places and never had problems with electronics, when we were away, we tried to park in the shade if possible, and if not, put reflectix on all the windows and keep the roof vent open at the very least
@donthompson98623 жыл бұрын
I need to figure out where to find free camping spots.And if i should buuild a van or buy a class B.Or buy a toyota and a 16foot airstream.Love airstreams but there just so spendy.Great video.
@ProjectUntethered3 жыл бұрын
Building is a good option if you're not in a rush and don't mind the work. It will allow you to maximize the space a lot better exactly the way you want it. We decided to go with the Class B because we were in a hurry to get on the road (and let's face it, I can count on two hands the number of times I've held a hammer 😂). The downside is, since we're always boondocking, there are a lot of things we don't use that take up precious space (air conditioner, microwave, etc.).
@donthompson98623 жыл бұрын
@@ProjectUntethered yeah im not to handi..and im disabled too.I like your class B ..those are pretty cool
@ProjectUntethered3 жыл бұрын
A class B might be the way to go then! It may turn out to be exactly what you’re looking for. And if not, you’ll quickly learn what you like and don’t like, and can upgrade in the future. It’s also more convenient to “test the waters” with a class B. If you spent months building out your own van and then realized you don’t even like living on a van, that’d suck!

Any tips for someone who really wants to get started on this but is too scared? Love your videos!
@ProjectUntethered3 жыл бұрын
Hey Zachary! I’d love to give you some tips! But first, what exactly scares you?
@zacharyrounds4073 жыл бұрын
I'd say the investment of it all. Buying the right van is intimidating and it's hard to know if I'll be able to sustain myself. My hope is to support myself by selling art at festivals and online. It's just scary to take the jump even though this is a huge dream of mine
@ProjectUntethered3 жыл бұрын
That's perfectly understandable! Have you sold art at festivals before? If you haven't already, I'd first test out the business to get an idea of how much you can expect to earn. If you need a little extra, you could start another side hustle in between festivals. If you haven't already seen them, I have some ideas in this van life jobs video kzbin.info/www/bejne/p2OZZWyJoZaXarc and this travel jobs video kzbin.info/www/bejne/qXzTlWichdSCqK8 . I'd also try to create an actual budget of how much you'll need. We actually have a video about our budget as well to give you an idea kzbin.info/www/bejne/nHvEmJhumZ51gbs . I think my #1 piece of advice would be to think of the worst thing that could happen (i.e. you buy a van, go have an awesome adventure, eventually realize you can't sustain yourself, are forced to sell the van and go back to a normal job). When you think about it like that, the worst case scenario isn't all the bad...in fact, I'd actually still consider the worst case scenario a win! The best case scenario, on the other hand, far outweighs the bad. Once you step outside your comfort zone, you never know who you'll meet or what opportunities you'll stumble into. When I left to backpack South America, I never imagined in my wildest dreams that I'd end up marrying a Colombian, investing in foreign real estate, splitting my time between living in a van and in the beautiful Colombian mountains, or creating a KZbin channel where I can offer advice to cool people like you 😎 I'd sit down to create a solid budget and plan to earn, then I'd go for it!
@zacharyrounds4073 жыл бұрын
I have sold at festivals before and depending on the day, you can make a lot of money pretty quick. That's a great idea to figure out a budget though. Now that I am thinking about the worst possible outcome, I definitely know it's not even that bad! Thanks for that great piece of advice. I feel a little less scared now :)

That is awesome! We love our baby ❤️ what does hydro mean (sorry if that’s a stupid question!). I’m pretty clueless as to how mechanical things work - All I know is we fill up propane, turn the thermostat on, and it gets warm 😂
@lindabeswick57833 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the quick response! Hydro is electricity (110v) We thought we might need to plug in to electricity or run the generator to use the furnace. We will have to try it off grid!!
@ProjectUntethered3 жыл бұрын
@@lindabeswick5783 Ahh I gotcha! We've actually never plugged in, so we always use it without hydro! :-) It does use a decent amount of electricity, so we only run it when we really need it (e.g. 20 minutes before bed or early morning). If you wanted to run it more continuously while off-grid, you'd probably want a good solar setup or generator.
