Real-life steampunk string instruments! Stroh violin is not that unknown. But this almost wood-free aluminium phono contrabass looks like re-engineered by a Bauhaus designer. Who made that thing? That's so jazz-age tech. I wonder if anybody ever tried to connect parts of a sousaphone (marching band tuba) to a string instrument (possibly even through a flexible sound hose). Playing a regular sized violin through that large horn (carried the normal way) would certainly give a totally different sound and permit walking around. Perhaps thicker strings could turn it into a sort of cello. Also plucking could sound interesting. How about making a non-electric distorted guitar employing a kazoo mechanism?
