O TBT de hoje é uma homenagem. Há exatos 3 anos o chimpanzé Guga nos deixava. Guga foi o primeiro chimpanzé do Santuário de Grandes Primatas de Sorocaba, SP, e o grande inspirador para as atividades informativas e de conscientização do Projeto GAP. Por causa de Guga, os quatro santuários afiliados ao GAP no Brasil hoje abrigam 78 chimpanzés e um orangotango, além de outros animais, os tirando de situações de maus-tratos.
Guga nasceu em um criadouro comercial no Paraná, sul do Brasil, em 1999. O local reproduzia chimpanzés para vender a circos e zoológicos. Aos três meses de idade, Guga foi “adotado” pelo empresário Pedro Ynterian, que em pouco tempo percebeu que o chimpanzé não era um pet. Ele foi então transferido para instalações adequadas em um criadouro conservacionista no interior de São Paulo, que já abrigava primatas e aves resgatados de atividades ilegais.
Para não ficar sozinho, negociou-se também a transferência de outros chimpanzés filhotes nascidos no mesmo local. Dessa forma, o centro comercial de reprodução foi finalmente fechado e nascia o Santuário de Grandes Primatas de Sorocaba, o maior da América Latina.
Acometido por uma doença avassaladora que o fez lutar, como bom guerreiro que era, por várias semanas, Guga deixou seus companheiros não humanos e humanos do Santuário na madrugada do dia 27 de maio de 2018. Descanse em paz, querido Guga. Gratidão a tudo o que representou e ainda representa na luta pelos Direitos dos Grandes Primatas.

Rest in peace, dear Guga 1999~May 27, 2018
Today's TBT is a tribute. Exactly 3 years ago the chimpanzee Guga left us. Guga was the first chimpanzee at the Great Apes Sanctuary of Sorocaba, São Paulo, Brazil, and the great inspirer for the information and awareness activities of GAP Project Brazil/International. Because of Guga, the four sanctuaries affiliated to the GAP in in the country today shelter 78 chimpanzees and an orangutan, and other animals, taking them out of situations of mistreatment.
Guga was born in a commercial breeding ground in Paraná, southern Brazil, in 1999. The place reproduced chimpanzees to sell to circuses and zoos. At three-month old, Guga was “adopted” by businessman Pedro Ynterian, who soon realized that the chimpanzee was not a pet. He was then transferred to appropriate facilities at a conservationist breeding site in the interior of São Paulo, which already was home of primates and birds rescued from illegal activities.
In order not to be left alone, the transfer of other baby chimpanzees born in the same place was also negotiated. This led to the commercial reproduction center to be finally closed and the Great Apes Sanctuary of Sorocaba, the largest in Latin America, was born.
Stricken by an overwhelming illness that made him fight, as a good warrior he was, for several weeks, Guga left his nonhuman and human companions from the Sanctuary at dawn on May 27, 2018. Rest in peace, dear Guga. Gratitude for all that he represented and still represents in the fight for the Rights of Great Apes.
