Here is a wonderful performance by the great French pianist Michel Beroff, from the early 1970s ... At 29'22" it shows how great virtuosity brings enormous excitement with it ... Bravo Beroff

Best interpretation ever, no doubt about it. The cadenza just makes me shiver.

Staggering. I got to know this concerto from the John Browning recording coupled with the First. It was recorded in the middle 1960"s. There are similarities between the two performances, mostly in tempi. Interpretations of this piece have slowed down as time has passed. I heard one more recently in Syracuse that threatened to last until after midnight. Beroff has an uncivilized, even ghoulish quality that is perfect for this piece. My hat is off to him.

I took the opportunity to purchase the 3 LP set of all 5 concerti on the EMI label back when this first came out in the '70s. It was pricy but I never regretted it. These performances are by far the best of the best.

It is indeed. Was 15 years old when I listened to it for the first time and I just could not move away. Am over 60 now, and listen to it on CD( complete works). I am still feeling amazed each time.

Fantastic! I was thrilling to this Beroff performance on KUAT-FM's internet feed, when I abruptly lost the connection. So glad you had it up on YT. Not played as often as #3, but with this great a reading and sound, just as mesmerizing.

This is a fantastic interpretation! It's chaotic, but always EXCITING. I love it. That's really cool because I'm pretty tired of the perfect, note-perfect, studio-processed recordings. Since when did classical piano become a sport?

Thank you because unfortunately I had missed this extraordinary musician for composers of the XX century that I find better than Richter, Samson François, Pollini.

Wonderful performance and recording. My favorite performance of this piece is the premier recording done by Jorge Bolet's which has a brisker tempo (although he mysteriously cuts the cadenza short.) I only wish the recording technology in 1954 had been as good as it was when this was made. Thanks for posting.

The Bolet recording is the reason that Richter never recorded the work.

12:18 Trumpet is out of tune :/
@MichaSchlechtriem4 жыл бұрын
Oh no!You are such a genius to recognize the trumpet is for exactly one moment a little bit low! Are you kidding?This was after all great trumpet playing and absolutely accetable.Get a life!

@@MichaSchlechtriem I didn't want to undermine the trumpet players, and i'm absolutely not boasting about my ear, i'm nowhere near a perfect pitch level, but the thing is that's my favorite recording of this concerto and it always kind of bothers me since it's such an amazing performance overall.
@MichaSchlechtriem4 жыл бұрын
@ That's ok.I am a pro and have perfect pitch.The thing is that the trumpet hasn't the "well" temperature pitch of the piano, which is quite normal.The trumpet isn't out of tune but fits perfectly into the piano with a slightly to low pitch for a very short time.Simply forget it, there are many more disgusting moments in music history.

The most convincing performance since Browning's classic.
