Today I have a critique for the Shading lesson and generally summing up all the figure lessons. Amit Shirole submitted two drawings. He did such a great job with this exercise, I think he's a good example for everyone else and maybe an inspiration to do the same thing.

Awesome thorough yet gentle critique. Thank you to the guy who sent this in and was brave enough to be critiqued in front of thousands of people. Your drawings were fantastic and the critique was enlightening.

Stan, your comments on Amit's drawing are really good as they are objective and constructive. Amit, despite of not being perfect, your drawings are still amazing to me . Beautiful work!!

The observation plumb is great. It's also cool to note the space between the parallel legs against the dark background.

Haha, I've been dealing different problems when it comes to drawing. I feel that i tend to exaggerate the gestures and shapes too much, my limbs end up becoming way too long- or they look too overly twisted and rotated and become anatomically incorrect. And probably- the way how the neck connects the skull and the torso is one huge struggle. I'm glad your videos are here I can watch whenever I begin panicking.

If anybody wants to learn how to draw I recomend you to buy PROKO's videos. I' be gone to colleges to "learn how to draw" and all I get is pseudohippies that can't give you a demo because they do NOT know themselves how to draw. I watched a couple of videos and learned more in 15 minutes than in 3 semesters of booooooring classes.

I think the right foot (first drawing) belongs to Sasquatch. In the second drawing, the raised arm is in a physically impossible position.

Is it possible to do that same style but with a mechanical pen with graphite lead ?
@Preytorcam
@Preytorcam 10 жыл бұрын
I guess, but it will be extremely hard and very unlikely.
@ashrivera8432
@ashrivera8432 10 жыл бұрын
It would most likely be very hard, tedious, your shading would be off, the lines would be too sharp, blending would be a nightmare, and the colours would be very off because of lack of the scale 9H-9B, and just one thin lead. Also, the background would be impossible because if my eye sees it correctly, since it is powdered charcoal. The effect of charcoal would be impossible to replicate with any type of graphite, especially sharp leads. Now, I was assuming that you were talking about common house mechanical pencils. If you happen to have an artists mechanical pen, with a 2mm lead then it would certainly be doable and actually, since its length never changes and its a bit more weighted many artists prefer it. But if you had the money to buy a pricey artists mechanical but not a simple set of them, I doubt it. In all, it would probably be best to spend an extra 15-30 if you're a beginner in art or just experimenting in graphite, or 40+ if you want to get a bit more serious. Of course, I'm implying that this be the cost of the set, not the pencils. They can also be bought separately.Taking in how long ago this was asked, I'm assuming that you have already purchased good graphite if you wanted to actually draw in it for more than just a drawing. If you haven't, and still want to know, I think its a very bad idea to do it with a regular mechanical pencil and the investment is worth it.

If you are looking for gesture drawing look up Croquis Cafe here on KZbin. They post a different model each week in a posing session. Obviously, each pose can either be captured to the screen for a longer drawing or just pause the video. With ten new poses each week and over one hundred videos available that gives you over a thousand poses to draw.
