I've been a pen and paper guy my whole life; I'm almost 30. I want to get into the digital stuff but don't know where to begin.
@hayapatel_
@hayapatel_ 3 жыл бұрын
3d modeling it more akin to sculpting if you're into that, if you want to continue just drawing or painting, there are free digital art programs available (Krita, Autodesk, Medibang, Gimp) and some even on mobile devices (Ibis, Medibang, Autodesk), or if you can afford it, you could probably try for and Adobe subscription and get photoshop or illustrator (illustrator is for vector based art), and they recently added Fresco for mobile devices, or programs like Paint Tool Sai and Clip studio (both are more user friendly when compared to photoshop imo). These (with exception of the mobile ones) will work optimally with a graphics tablet; the one you'll be suited to is up to how you work but there will be a learning curve there too (or you might find a screen tablet to be more intuitive since there's no initial disconnect between the tablet and the screen). Or you could get an iPad, too, actually, and that has access to procreate, the other mobile apps mentioned before, and clip studio. Popular companies for tablets are Wacom and Huion, there's also Xp pen--look up reviews and unboxings to see which one works for you. Down the line though, it works very similar to drawing traditionally as soon as you get used to the feel of working on a tablet and getting acquainted to the program you use. I don't do modeling/rigging so idk about good programs for it or good starting points for 3d though.

Short answer : buy an used ipad 6th gen or newer, 1st gen apple pen, and download Procreate.

To everyone struggling or not knowing how to start with 3D: Install Blender. It's free, open source and there's an awesome amount of tuts. Start with BlenderGuru's Donut tutorial. It shows you every part of Blender with a very simple geometry. It's very well thought out, and you'll end up with a perfectly shadowed image :-O Have a notebook nearby to write every hotkey down. You'll learn all of them after pressing them just a few times, but there's a quite a few of them and it's very nice to have them nearby at the start (otherwise It Will feel that " I'm just not made for this")

These are pretty good suggestions but it's a slippery slope; know the strengths of 3D and when to apply them. You don't always want your paintings and animations to look '3D'.

Something I see now with the use of 3D is everything looking stiff and the same. Maybe that’s required for production and preproduction but it’s horribly boring to look at.

I'm 29 too and learned Blender to a comfortable level in a few weeks. Look up blender tips and tricks and donut tutorials to go through the full process of rendering beautiful images and animation. Just experiment with it and learn the shortcuts Just as you would in photoshop. Once you get a grasp of navigating through a 3D space it's really simple

Hey! I'm an architect. Today I was searching whether digital painting can help me present my design better or not and whether it can be a subsection for rendering using architecture software. Out of the blue, you posted this video and here I have this question: what software is being used in the video? And would you think it is strong enough for architectural modeling?

FYI I didn't watch any of this, only read the title. When you dreamed of being an artist did it ever involve a 3D rendering engine "speeding up the process"? That's like trying to speed up your auto-asphyxiation nut. You didn't save time, you just lost a few more fleeting moments of joy in this sorrow ridden helscape called Earth.

Ah yes. But the one who can do it without machines will certainly work harder, but become stronger. Especially since there's no guarantee that this sort of electrical structure in society will actually hold up in time. What happens, silly red-eyed cat, when your computer fails to power on? "Mommy?" No. Whip out that traditional stuff. Like, we have guns and chemical warfare right? But really, how badass is Jackie Chan, or other masters of the Martial Arts? To rely on technology is---in its own way---a form of self reliance on something that makes life easier; a primitive outlook. Ah, yes. Truly both is the way to go. But I'll be damned if it's all people do and still call themselves learned artists.

Not just that but 2d animators or people who hand draw stuff etc. get treated like crap and are wayyy overworked, underpaid, and have to put in a lot more effort into their work than 3d animators (or people using cgi etc) have to. Kinda sucks too IMO the style looks so pretty (while cgi looks ugly as hell most of the time) and is a huge part of our history in regards to animation.
