I agree with Ariana, the blue prom dress is giving bridesmaid, and the white/black was like glitter, design, sparkles, stand out dress that will definitely shine amongst the other gowns. I am a firm believer in wearing what you love even if no one else is in agreement because you've got to feel good and love what you're in, so whatever we see next, she'll definitely rock it!!!!

I’m so glad Aurora is in correct placement! I work in a special Ed classroom with kids who have moderate to severe disabilities mainly autism but intellectual delays are their secondary diagnoses. Aurora will do amazing! The one on one instruction will be great, they will closely work on the iep goals with her, and she will still be included in general Ed activities if they do that at that school. I’m excited for her! I’ve been working in the special Ed community for 8 years but have been living in it my whole life because my sister had special needs and now my daughter has mild autism.

Self-contained classes are great for some kids. It can make the difference between night and day for them. Hoping Aurora will do great in her new class and school!!

As a mom to a child with severe apraxia and also an intellectual delay the smaller classroom supports will be so good for her. My kiddo has the specialized classroom for the core studies but joins the mainstream class with an assistant for extracurriculars (library, recess/lunch, music, gym), and that is super beneficial for him. I hope Aurora will still have those mainstream opportunities.

Yes, I was just going to say this. I’m an Early Childhood Special Education Teacher in a self-contained classroom. Make sure she still has social opportunities (lunch, recess, etc) and specials (music, PE, tech, etc) with her same age peers.

My son switched class when he was in kindergarten. He has ADHD and we moved him to an 8:1:1 class. He did so much better. I hope Aurora really enjoys her new class!!

My son is in a self contained class and when his dad and I made the change we seen him really come out of his shell and learn to do different things. And with his issues he has he is allowed to get up and wonder the class and sit where he feels he can settle and do his class work. Your baby is going to places I am excited to see her bloom.

It’s so cool Bella is going with people from Spain now that I am 45 some regrets are not traveling as much as possible, learning another language, trying new foods I could go on all day 😂

You will see so much improvement with Aurora didn't realize she was in a regular classroom. My Son had a head injury at age 6 bike vs car. At that time it was called special ed which he was in all his school years. He is now 41 married and has been with the same job for 13 years. Wanted to give you some encouragement. He had IEP's speech therapy and occupational therapy through his school years too.

It can be really hard when you first find out that your child can longer attend their “home” school. When my son was in first grade at the last iep meeting of the year we were told they couldn’t make all the accommodations he needed and he switched to non public school. Self contained class rooms can be great and we’re lucky we live in a time that there are so many different schooling options for different needs. But in that moment I felt like the rug had been pulled from beneath my feet. I ended up home schooling my son when 2020 happened (he was still in elementary school) and when we finally re-enrolled him about 3 years later he ended up going to his local middle school because in my state only the child’s “home school” (school closest to home) can refer the child to non public. Just remember that you as parents have final say and if you don’t like something say something. Wishing your family all the best and a happy transition to a new school. ❤ Edit- wanted to add if her new school uses quiet rooms/resource rooms make sure you know exactly how they will be used. With my son I was told it was a place used to calm down but they were not being used how I was told and was very traumatizing. If this is something the new school uses you should be allowed to sign some type of agreement that they have to call you before any actions take place. Something I wish I had known.

I LOVED the flowery sparkly dress. That just screams Bella. Very happy Aurora is in the correct environment. She needs this additional education and attention My niece has dyspraxia and she has the mentality of a 13 year old and she is almost 19. Aurora has needed this from day one and she will now flourish the way she is meant to be.

The hard surfaces rule usually only applies to front yards to reduce the amount of runoff. Looks like your "front yard" is a completely paved driveway... except for some mulch patches by the house. Technically, you have 2 garages, so you could build both of those up. Also, isn't there an empty field behind your backyard? Would buying a piece of it be an option? This would extend your yard to have room for a detached unit + non paved yard space.

I had an IEP for reading and math all through my school years. I’d say it really helped! My only reading problem was comprehension but I suck at math 😂 still now, 17 I still hate and suck at math. I would go to a separate classroom during math and reading just like aurora would, it’s nice to have that 1 on 1 time with a teacher where you can get that extra help and ask for help. Aurora is super smart and she’s come along way in her speech! It would be good for her to get that extra help in a smaller classroom so I’m glad you guys decided to go through with it! :)

I was in a self contained class in my younger age and it helped me advance so much I couldn’t pick up on the material in a big glass I’m now 22 and still learn best in smaller classes

As a special educator, I think Aurora's education plan sounds like a positive thing! She may be able to transition out of that as she gets older and more mature, but I think this will be helpful. As for Jamie, does she qualify for any services? Specifically, I think she might really enjoy being in an apartment with a roommate/friend and a service provider to assist with life skills/ daily living skills. I'd think in an area like yours, those services would be available, even if there's a wait-list.

Oh Crystal if the kids like art, get a salad spinner that don't have holes in the bottom and lay a coffee filter in the bottom and then put dots of paint on the coffee filter and then put the lid on and spin and see what you get, I did this project with my 2 years class and up.. kids love how the colors come out...

I am an Educational Assistant(Teacher's Aide) and contained classes are very good for students like Aurora. As she moves up in her grades they will teach her life skills along with academic skills, and it will be at her pace. I am so happy for her. Since it is a small class, they tend to stay with the same students through the years, and they become life long friends.

Just a question...but are you guys able to put a rv on the lot for Jamie ? Does hoa approve of that for your property? There are really nice rvs and travel trailers that have the whole set up like a mini home and ive done it when I was slowly getting more independence as a young adult before moving away. Hi I'm from the UK and my son attended a mainstream school, until we decided that there was an issue and we moved him to a school with children with learning disabilities, this meant 8 children and 1 main teacher and 3 teacher aids. Wow well let me tell you he became a confident student that went on to come second in a cooking contest against mainstream schools. He left with a number of academic awards and has just proved everyone in awe. He is now almost 21 and is a powder coater in a foundry. You're making the right choice x

Have you thought about a tiny house on wheels....you could put it in the backyard still but because it is on a trailer it would not count as more hard surface but still be a completely separate building. If I ever build a house I would like to build a tiny house....only not too tiny the one I like the best design on has a living room a good size kitchen a bathroom and a bedroom on the bottom floor and then a loft over the bathroom and bedroom with stairs up not a ladder so it is essentially 2 bedroom with a decent kitchen (because I love to cook). I would prefer it not to be on a trailer but I have seen many good size ones on trailers too and I think they would be perfect for Jamie.

I teach in the type of class (in Washington State) that Aurora is going to be switching to. We call it a Life Skills Class. I love teaching where I do. Aurora should make great progress.

I was in self contain classes for a few years for have a learning disability, and I did that until high school bc I wanted a high school diploma instead of a certificate. And I worked butt off. So hopefully has aurora, gets up in the grades she can go back to regular classrooms

Went thru this with my daughter a few years ago. Statement dress or classic flowy dress… that was the decision. She looked fabulous either way. Luckily, she got asked to a second prom with a friend who went to a different school. She kept both dresses.😄
