Last trip around Saturn, to check out another small moon..or is it just a big rock?
Finally got another Hermod, which I intend to keep this time for its MIDI live looping/CV recording. It's playing the Braids pluck in this piece, which I recorded live over 3 separate sequences.
Digitakt is doing all the percussion/drums. I forgot just how good Digitakt is at doing this kind of ambient percussion stuff (spent a whole day programming it). I just wish I could automate pattern/program changes. Vector will eventually be able to do this I think, but in this piece Vector takes a back seat and just keeps everything tightly synced.
NerdSeq is doing most of the work in this patch. Several channels with MIDI live recordings over many patterns to keep things changing.
The cool glitchy and occasional dub tech chord stuff that begins around 10 secs in is all coming from Plaits with its model being modulated.
Bass#1 is Cs-L wavefolder output through Stereo Dipole.
Bass#2 from Digitakt
Other synth sounds/leads are E370, and GraphicVCO.
Recorded direct to DAW.
Please like and subscribe if you enjoyed the music, and want to be notified of new uploads.

I've returned to this great tribute to Edgar, it's now 2024, I'm nearly 70 years of age, this tribute is haunting, haunting my memory banks, Phaedra was my first experience on it's release in the early 1970s, I've been hooked ever since. I only saw them perform live once back in the late 70s. How I miss those original early Tangerine Dream days. This tribute is fantastic. Thank you.

Thanks, Marcos. I had to try a lot of different combinations of patching to get them to play together nice, Hermod especially doesn't like to be slaved it seems and the only way I could get it to a tight sync was taking a slaved clock output from PNW, but a Run output directly from Vector (Master).

Thanks, Sarah! I went through a phase of selling all my equipment once (though I didn't have a lot at the time), out of frustration mostly. Software is always a great way to get back into it at low cost, even free. VCVRack for instance is a pretty incredible free piece of software for the modular environment!

@@stateazure yes i just came across vcvrack this morning! I watched a great tutorial on how to set up a basic modular setup and somebody had mentioned vcvrack. I really do love hardware and turning knobs though - it's more comfortable and fluid. I had a 25-key novation x-station and was able to make some amazing sounds! Anyways, thanks again for your videos, and I'm sure over time I will discover which hardware I'd like to have. Thanks!

@stateazure
@stateazure 5 жыл бұрын
Cheers, Omri! It means I can now record directly into the sequencer tracks via MIDI keyboard, at least with NerdSeq and Hermod. Vector is still step based programming. All of the parts on this, were recorded that way.

Nice sounds as always, i love the ambient glitchy percussion especially, works well with your melodic style. I just ordered a hermod for my peak, planning use it to sequence the peak in sync with my modular for a live performance, do you have any tips on achieving this?
@stateazure
@stateazure 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I think it should be pretty straightforward MIDI in from a Keyboard into Hermod for programming your midi parts, MIDI out to the Peak. I think you may be able to use multiple tracks set to the same channel, but I haven't tried this myself.I mention that because recording and sending chords on the Hermod works, but you cannot then edit individual notes of said chord on a single track of the Hermod which is a pain. As for getting a tight sync, it's something you'll have to experiment with. Hermod prefers to be a Master clock, but as I discovered with my set up it's not necessary but requires some experimentation to set it up the best way.
@ktp3429
@ktp3429 5 жыл бұрын
@@stateazure Thanks for the info! How do you clock yours? I was thinking to run the hermod as a slave to PNWs clock the same way i do my eloquencer, but not sure if this will work, since you mentuined synce issues, i thought you may know some ways around this.
@stateazure
@stateazure 5 жыл бұрын
@@ktp3429 I didn't try every conceivable way of patching, so you might find something that works that I didn't. I always wanted my Vector as main clock, with PNW, Hermod and NerdSeq slaved. It ended up getting pretty compicated and frustrating, but in the end the only way I could get Hermod to a very tight sync was taking a clock from PNW (I have a feeling it was just a 4PPQN, but might be wrong, I know it isn't equipped for 24ppqn). And the Run output had to come from Vector directly, if I used a Run from PNW the sync was off a little. Perhaps with PNW as Master it'll work better though.
@ktp3429
@ktp3429 5 жыл бұрын
@@stateazure You see I always think it's as simple as buying a new module and sending a gate, but a lot of the time it isnt. I'm sequencing a bunch of tracks from one patch, and i wanted to add the peak for poly. Hermod and a skiff should arrive tomorrow and then i gotta figure out how to repatch with the hermod snd sync it all before Wednesday. Saying that, i know you're london based, you should come down to the Brighton modular events, your stuff will go down a treat!
@stateazure
@stateazure 5 жыл бұрын
@@ktp3429 Actually, I'm closer than you think, I'm Southampton based :) But unfortunately, I have responsibilities that keep me at home and not much I can do about it. Anyway, i think you'll get it synced up fine for what you need.
