@@dianamon2727there were more than 3 or 4 ships destroyed. During that one scene of Vader on the bridge, you can see that much of the Rebel fleet is still around Raddus’ flagship. It’s safe to say that all of those were destroyed. Additionally, the Rebel starfighter wing took heavy losses, and that’s the most relevant part to Yavin. They lost easily half of all the fighters sent, including the leader of the Rebel starfighter wing (Blue Leader, I can’t remember his name atm.)

I guess this scene is based on several real life episode of small Soviet ships ramming US destroyers and cruisers Like when small patrol boat hammered USS Caron in full speed to force it off Soviet coast, and succeeded, even seriously damaged ships weapons and caused a fire
@toddkes5890
@toddkes5890 8 ай бұрын
The Hammerhead's impact on the Star Destroyer should have been barely noticeable by the Star Destroyer's personnel. A Star Destroyer is ~1600 meters long, a Hammerhead is ~120 meters long, so the Star Destroyer is ~13 times as long. Cubing this means the Star Destroyer is over two thousand times the mass of the Hammerhead. So if the Hammerhead was moving at ~2000 meters per second, the resulting impact will have the Star Destroyer moving at 1 meter/second. The scene should have been the Hammerhead impacting with the Star Destroyer crew hearing a thump and maybe a small jolt (gravity still worked, so inertial dampening likely still worked). But as the Hammerhead is in the notch with its engines at full, the bridge crew sees their ship approaching the other Star Destroyer and realize that something is wrong.

Nah that’s not true, what Andor, CW S7 and first 2 seasons of mandalorian?
@pwh1981
@pwh1981 Ай бұрын
I'd put Andor above this in terms of both writing and passion. I was born at the time of the prequels and my dad watched the OT as it came out in theaters; Andor captured both of us spectacularly, and certainly in no way anything else Disney has made with the exception of this movie. I'd even say Andor is better than the OT, heretical though it may be to say. Andor and Rogue One, being Star Wars that doesn't treat or expect it's audience to be a child, is what I and so many others have wanted for so long.
@losj3020
@losj3020 18 күн бұрын
@@pwh1981 yup. Andor is def above Rogue One, but to be fair, it has the privilege of being a series rather than a 2 hour movie. If Rogue One was a TV series written like Andor, with this still being the final battle, it could surpass it. The only downside to that idea is that we wouldn't be able to see this in the big screen

Met my best friend. I became an entertainment writer. And we waited 39 YEARS for THIS movie and it was WORTH every minute that we lived to get there. I was sitting with my FAMILY that night in a theater that was on its feet screaming, yelling, crying and losing its mind -- just like we did in1977. To this day it was the FIRST time I was truly terrified of Vader, and it was ALL of us. Training is what the body obeys when the mind is still trying to adjust to the situation. You are the shield controller for Scarif and suddenly see Hostile forces? Closing the shield gate should be your default reaction. For the ISDs, it would have been a mix of getting the shields active ASAP and activating the jammers. Once your location's shields are up you can try to see if a neighbor's shields are not yet up and try to protect them (i.e. someone is doing preventative maintenance on a shield and it can't be brought up for another five minutes). The jammers will cause an attacker's fire to not be as accurate, so instead of their shots slamming into turret rings and disabling weapons those shots will slam into the armor next to the turrets.

It appears to be homage to the “frigates” from Knights of the Old Republic (game / lore). Very similar shape and form. I also like the idea that possibly what was once considered the size of a frigate is (or could be) considered merely a corvette at a later time, much as in the modern world how what was long ago considered a cruiser (or light cruiser anyway) weighs about as much as a modern destroyer - as in ships have generally gotten much bigger over time.

the way the battles were created was actually pretty strategic. The X-Wings going to the shield gate to clear the towers of turrets before the bombers did their run. Before the Y-wings come in to bomb the disabled star destroyer, there’s two squads of X-wings distracting the Tie fighters chasing them. After the destroyer loses power, the admiral says to “call up a hammerhead corvette”, meaning either there’s rebels have more ships waiting or in reserve, showing they’re still strong, or have enough healthy ships to have exactly what he needs. The X-wings formations are cohesive and tight, flying in cover for one another, as the Tie fighters are more spread and sporadic, the emphasis on possibly tie fighters having the advantage in numbers as the rebels dominate with pilots.

Easily the best Non animated space battle Ive ever seen. Even the goofy ramming looks too good to criticize.

What makes this battle the best is that all the rebel ships are doing their work. The Profundity as a flagship was great. I love X-wings doing SEAD(supression of enemy air defense) on the shield gate before Y-wings start their attack run. As the battle continues, remaining X-wings form a flight group and engage Ties among their fleet. Smaller capital ships like the ghost moving around the flagship trying to shoot down Ties and hopefully reduce some firepower to the Profundity by surrounding it was also great.

The fighters really owned this movie, from that one Blue Squadron fighter going on a lone run to knock out the Star Destroyer’s shield generator to the use of old footage from the Original Trilogy to bring Gold and Red Leaders into the film, this space battle is baller

And the ion torpedoes from gold squadron being crucial to taking down the star destroyers. Y-wings always get portrayed as underwhelming, but they are actually really good. Especially in the novels and old X-wing games.

@@alexsolosmand they did not just come and shoot, those Y-wing exploited the unshield parts caused by Red leader shoot to the left shield generator previously.

Thank GOD I wasn’t the only one to notice the Ghost, at first I didn’t see it, but then I heard the distinct sound of it firing its laser cannons, When I first watched this movie, it was hot off the heels of seeing the final episode of Star Wars Rebels, so you can Imagine my barely contained shriek of Joy when I realized a certain ship was a part of the battle of Scarif.
