I never saw the movie Rogue One, but heard it had a really great space battle set piece. Though much like the Battle of Endor it's broken up throughout the movie. So I made a supercut of the space battle scenes back in 2017 and hey it was well received, then Disney did their thing and yeah, anyway it's back for now. Update: The Appeal was successful and this video will be up for the foreseeable future!

TLJ sucked. TROS had some good character chemistry. I don’t like the sequels as a whole but they had SOME good ideas. They just weren’t used properly. “Sorry for the mess.”

@@dianamon2727there were more than 3 or 4 ships destroyed. During that one scene of Vader on the bridge, you can see that much of the Rebel fleet is still around Raddus’ flagship. It’s safe to say that all of those were destroyed. Additionally, the Rebel starfighter wing took heavy losses, and that’s the most relevant part to Yavin. They lost easily half of all the fighters sent, including the leader of the Rebel starfighter wing (Blue Leader, I can’t remember his name atm.)

I guess this scene is based on several real life episode of small Soviet ships ramming US destroyers and cruisers Like when small patrol boat hammered USS Caron in full speed to force it off Soviet coast, and succeeded, even seriously damaged ships weapons and caused a fire
@toddkes5890
@toddkes5890 4 ай бұрын
The Hammerhead's impact on the Star Destroyer should have been barely noticeable by the Star Destroyer's personnel. A Star Destroyer is ~1600 meters long, a Hammerhead is ~120 meters long, so the Star Destroyer is ~13 times as long. Cubing this means the Star Destroyer is over two thousand times the mass of the Hammerhead. So if the Hammerhead was moving at ~2000 meters per second, the resulting impact will have the Star Destroyer moving at 1 meter/second. The scene should have been the Hammerhead impacting with the Star Destroyer crew hearing a thump and maybe a small jolt (gravity still worked, so inertial dampening likely still worked). But as the Hammerhead is in the notch with its engines at full, the bridge crew sees their ship approaching the other Star Destroyer and realize that something is wrong.

Rogue One had such superior attention to detail versus the Disney Sequels. The camera framing up only Jyn Erso's hand clutching her kyber crystal while they're waiting to hear if their shuttle codes clear or not for example is such a subtle artistic version of JJ's hamfisted 'uh Rey is going to do a Jedi Mind Trick for reasons.'

It is a period of civil war. Rebel spaceships, striking from a hidden base, have won their first victory against the evil Galactic Empire. During the battle, Rebel spies managed to steal secret plans to the Empire's ultimate weapon, the DEATH STAR, an armored space station with enough power to destroy an entire planet. Pursued by the Empire's sinister agents, Princess Leia races home aboard her starship, custodian of the stolen plans that can save her people and restore freedom to the galaxy...

This is one of my favourite Star Wars space battles Having the strengths of both factions on display imperial capital ships strength and the superior rebel fighters and bombers and the way the 2 Star destroyers are taken out with the superiority of rebel x-wings and y-wings over their imperial counterparts to disable a star destroyer to open it up do a daring move from a hammerhead corvette was some absolutely inspired direction, writing and cinematography.

What many don't get about this, beyond the cool effects and the link to ANH, is that shortly after it;s release, Carrie Fisher joined the stars and for those of us who saw her for the first time back in 1977, and once more, in a fashion, in Rogue One, it was a hard nut to take, Dream on Princess.

For me what i always loved was the epicness of the space battle scenes (and the battle for Hoth) and no other space series, including the prequel and new film series have ever come close to the drama of the scenes in tje original trilogy. Rogue One achieves it, and its magnificent, this whole sequence, along with the ground battle slaps so damn hard.

Haha indeed! and thanks! Don't get me wrong, I'll always prefer the Battle of Endor over any space battle, though Scarif ranks up there, but as we discussed, this is pretty much how far they went with the lore when it came to ship stuff...I was hoping for more epic space battles that maybe even the Battle of Endor could be topped, but nope, the Battle of Scarif seemed to be the peak in that area when it came to the Disney era of SW. What I like in this battle and the benefits of CGI is you can have more dynamic camera angles, following the ships as they maneuver and whatnot and plenty more, but you know it's not there... I'll always ALWAYS prefer the old school ILM way of using models and motion controlled cameras. It's the blending of the two that work masterfully in my eyes. Jurassic Park from 1993 is the best example of this with the T-Rex scene, constantly switching from CGI to full sized robot. Still holds up after 30 years!

3:13 - 3:24: The panning shots of the handful of Y-Wings moving from right to left countered by the pan of scores of TIEs moving left to right is one of the greatest scenes in SW history. In one elegant and rich visual we get everything we need to know about the ragtag Rebellion and the might of the Empire. Also, the speed and scale of the combat is absolutely breathtaking. "R1" and "Andor" proved that the Mouse is capable of making great Star Wars. It’s a shame they don’t do it with any consistency.

I just never realized why I love specifically the end of the battle (despite all the obvious reasons). The music. It's not fancy, not triumphant in full blast, not happy, not brave, not proud. Sad. With a little smile of "we actually did it..." Nothing of this is great. They fought hard and lost a lot of people. Yes, the goal was achieved, but the music recognize the cost all these people paid for just one transmission. It just shows how much grounded the vision of the events was put before making this film. And a little of, I'd say, feeling all the heroes as saint, considering what had to be done. And there is Death Star on the horizon...
