For anyone who wants to learn about propaganda in the modern era, I highly recommend Noam Chomsky's, 'Manufacturing Consent'. Propaganda these days is less about what is or is not a lie, but rather what is or is not being reported on. Bias also plays a role in what propaganda is: two people can report on identical facts without lying, but their biases can (and usually will) shift the tone and message of the piece to a point where it becomes propaganda. uhh I mean... KEYBOARD WARRIORS STAND UP. WE MUST FIGHT THE BAD PEOPLE!
@tinkabouthat88563 жыл бұрын
An example of bias changing tone is when my grandad was telling me a story of how his pastor told him 'if you want to be a missionary,boy, I suggest you learn how to spell it!' And whereas he saw it as a funny memory i saw it as a humiliating experience of an adult bullying a child.

An example of how not reporting something can affect the view of something can be seen from the current statistics for the Israel - Palestine conflict. (Note: The statistics may have changed by the time someone reads this, plus the sources might be subject to the very thing OP is talking about. Take them with a grain of salt.) Kills in which the person affected was -from Israel: 10 -from Palestine: 232; 212 of which done by airstrikes -from an unknown origin: 2 You can report these statistics in multiple ways, including these headlines I just made up: -Palestine kills ten Israelis in shocking massacre -Israel causes 212 deaths of Palestine people in an airstrike attack -Israel has killed twenty times more people than Palestine All of these are _technically_ correct (although some do suffer from fallacies), however the first one makes the ten deaths seem way worse by not including the fact that people in Palestine got killed way more. Same can be said for the second one, although in this case the 212 deaths are indeed the more major statistic.

Indeed the land of tribalism over evidence logic and reason with policies built on towers of delusion bullshit and the Dunning Kruger effect In terms of the rise and fall of nations empires and the likes over history I fear we are at the collapse stage or at the very least the precipitous decline phase. Nothing like tribalism to restore humanity to its primal state of warring tribes like using sorting algorithms to group likeminded people breaking up the 6000+ years of human progress driven on the basis of people having to work together with others with differing views in a effective refugee crisis due to the end of the African humid period driven by livestock overgrazing of grasslands and savannah rapidly accelerating the desertification of the Sahara and Arabian peninsula leaving only a few surviving bodies of water where the surviving population was forced to congregate around between Africa and the middle east namely the Nile and Tigris Euphrates watersheds. Human history becomes a lot more bleak once you realize we tend not to think until shit hits the fan so bad that we have to get along or die. I have lost hope in humanity welcome to the age of techno barbarianism! *cries*

Most cross over episodes are pretty much dumbed down shallow variations of each series' themes, characters, plot structures, etc. You need to keep things light for those who are familiar with one series but not the other. Imagine a TV series where just randomly, in one episode, the cast size doubled with characters who all have complex background stories which you suddenly have to get a read on. That is what it's like with Crossovers. Not to mention true fans of both series aren't going to get anything of substance from said crossover because it has to be simplified for everyone. Take Kingdom Hearts. Half Disney; half Final Fantasy. When you play the Disney chapters, you follow the plot of the story but its really like going through cliff notes and isn't like watching the whole film. The same with the FF character and their side of things.

Someone told me in a political argument that Trump has an incredibly small fortune. I told him that I would enthusiastically agree with him in exchange for a small loan of a million dollars. He told me that I'm probably too stupid and lazy to know how to handle that kind of money. I mean, he's not saying he can't arrange to give me a million dollars, just that he doesn't think I could provide an adequate return on the investment. @theodorekaczynski16833 жыл бұрын
@@miolen9212 INDUSTRIAL SOCIETY AND ITS FUTURE Introduction 1. The Industrial Revolution and its consequences have been a disaster for the human race. They have greatly increased the life-expectancy of those of us who live in “advanced” countries, but they have destabilized society, have made life unfulfilling, have subjected human beings to indignities, have led to widespread psychological suffering (in the Third World to physical suffering as well) and have inflicted severe damage on the natural world. The continued development of technology will worsen the situation. It will certainly subject human beings to greater indignities and inflict greater damage on the natural world, it will probably lead to greater social disruption and psychological suffering, and it may lead to increased physical suffering even in “advanced” countries. 2. The industrial-technological system may survive or it may break down. If it survives, it MAY eventually achieve a low level of physical and psychological suffering, but only after passing through a long and very painful period of adjustment and only at the cost of permanently reducing human beings and many other living organisms to engineered products and mere cogs in the social machine. Furthermore, if the system survives, the consequences will be inevitable: There is no way of reforming or modifying the system so as to prevent it from depriving people of dignity and autonomy. 3. If the system breaks down the consequences will still be very painful. But the bigger the system grows the more disastrous the results of its breakdown will be, so if it is to break down it had best break down sooner rather than later. 4. We therefore advocate a revolution against the industrial system. This revolution may or may not make use of violence; it may be sudden or it may be a relatively gradual process spanning a few decades. We can’t predict any of that. But we do outline in a very general way the measures that those who hate the industrial system should take in order to prepare the way for a revolution against that form of society. This is not to be a POLITICAL revolution. Its object will be to overthrow not governments but the economic and technological basis of the present society. 5. In this article we give attention to only some of the negative developments that have grown out of the industrial-technological system. Other such developments we mention only briefly or ignore altogether. This does not mean that we regard these other developments as unimportant. For practical reasons we have to confine our discussion to areas that have received insufficient public attention or in which we have something new to say. For example, since there are well-developed environmental and wilderness movements, we have written very little about environmental degradation or the destruction of wild nature, even though we consider these to be highly important.

@@mimmikibilly *Correlation:* multiple things happen at the same time in a way that we can observe a pattern. This can be coincidence (things have common causal relationships with one or more unknown factors), or it can be completely random. Correlation is quantifyable (you can say "these two factors have 20% correlation") *Causation:* Thing A manifests thing B. It can rarely be proven because the real world has an infinite amount of factors to consider. www.statisticshowto.com/causation/ *In short:* Causation leads to correlation, but correlation does not imply causation. *In relation to propaganda:* Statistics, especially visual representation, can be manipulated to imply a stronger correlation of two factors than they actually have. This happens mostly by omitting other known factors or showing data in unrelated scales to one another. The goal of this is to create a simplified worldview and give the audience the feeling that they have the overview and control. Of course, the point of visual data representation is to simplify it so that its easily digestible, so the lines are fleeting. @@Ajehy problem is both sides are very adept at using propaganda, and this video wouldn't really teach them anything. If anything it should have came out a few months beforehand so we could see and recognize the propaganda we are being exposed too.

The way to win a trolling war is to give short responses that provoke a lengthy replay from your opponent. That way you waste more of their time than they waste of yours. Winning!

Meh, there are usually a lot more factors than that. If you want to waste your time and brainpower thinking of trolls instead of going with impulse then it's best to consider em.

Gosh I hate it when people do that. It takes a minute to make one sentence containing ten different ridiculous claims, but it takes 20 minutes to demonstrate why each of these claims are wrong.

At least it runs the troll credibility into the ground, so there's that.

Good point. If only the truth were more palatable to the masses... Still, as long as people act solely in the interest of themselves and their immediate social circles, there will never be peace.
