Katuk (Sauropus androgynous), also known as "cape gooseberry" or "star gooseberry", is a delicious tropical perennial vegetable. Here's the easy way to propagate katuk. It depends on your soil and rainfall, but the "jam cuttings in the ground" method of katuk propagation has worked well for me here. If you don't have wet soil and lots of rainfall, it would be better to start them in a greenhouse or in pots with plastic bags as humidity tents. You can sometimes root katuk in water, though that may just make them rot. Rooting katuk is pretty easy - give it a try!

I planted in a pot here in my home in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Been there for a year, and now a bush in the pot. I keep harvesting from time to time. We call asin-asin and cekur manis in Malaysia. Normally we stir fry with dried shrimps added, stir fry with shrimp paste and crushed fresh red chilies added or soup with chunks of sweet potatoes added, or cooked in coconut milk with sweet potato chunks added - add fresh shrimps to all these dishes, really yummy when eaten with white rice.

I just felt the need to say thank you for these clips/vlogs. I start my day out by watching and I always come away thinking about things, having learnt something and giggling. It's a great way to start the day, so once again Thank You.

I had a similar case with my Moringa. Moved house and the tree was too big, so I cut it into logs and left only a few leaves on top of each cutting. Put them upright in the ground so the ends are pointing the sky and the part that was closest to the root is in the ground, and after about 4 months they just exploded with growth. Now I have like 6 Moringa trees instead of just 1.

Im trying this in pots. Never done cuttings before but are they supposed to get all shriveled up and wilty? Its only been 11 days and most them are like that. 1 of the thickest ones sprouted a leaf though.
@davidthegood
@davidthegood 6 жыл бұрын
They often do that, yes. Keep them watered and wait - they should start sprouting leaves again soon.

How is the katuk doing? It has been some time since you planted.

Some of them got whacked down by a friend with a string trimmer helping out one day, but the rest rooted well. They grow too slowly, though. I'm going to try putting some in a high-sun, compost rich place and see if I can speed them up.

@davidthegood
