Attach a wrist band to the transmitter or something, this way if you drop it you're stuck with the propeller at full throttle.
@GavinRemme8 жыл бұрын
May I recommend that you put the throttle control on the spring loaded side of the transmitter? That way of you drop it or something it will return to zero throttle :)

If you drop the transmitter you're basically SOL. I think it would be slightly safer ditching the radio system altogether and using a wired servo tester plugged direct to the ESC as the throttle control in your hand (have to solder extension wires).
@SammSheperd8 жыл бұрын
I was gonna TIG weld an aluminum frame and use a wired trigger throttle but the snow made me rapid prototype a bit faster. The main power plug is within reach but a better kill switch would be nice
@thesherm448 жыл бұрын
Honestly, what you should do is use your trainer switch as a dead man's switch. When you drop the trainer switch, throttle goes to idle. This way if you drop the transmitter, the throttle goes to zero.

that motor and prop on 12s makes 36 pounds thrust, I know this because a friend has a plane with this setup and the motor is under propped, but this looks like a blast except if you wipe out with a lawnmower mounted to you back
@furonwarrior6 жыл бұрын
Use a three bladed prop. They're more balanced when handling variable yaw axis such as you moving side-to-side.
@DrZoidbergism7 жыл бұрын
if you loose the remote while in flull throttle you are basically screwed do you have a safety switch you can reach without getting your hands dangerously near the spinning blade of dismemberment? I hope so.
@MindCrime5507 жыл бұрын
Since this is thrust vs friction (skis and air resistance) aren't you going to keep gaining speed until those are matched? I mean if you tuck and keep it on full aren't you gonna be doing 60mph eventually?

Awesome, Samm! I hope you are taking adequate safety precautions. Remember, some of us oldies live vicariously through watching your videos :) BTW, Turn on GPS logging on your smartphone and see what top speed you're getting. Also, if you hunker down on the skis and allow more "open" air in front of the prop, you may get higher speed/longer runs/cooler hardware. And... you do not need a transmitter, just a servo tester should be enough for speed control, right?
@curbyweaver46067 жыл бұрын
Samm, use an impeller blower like you did with your RC airplane for your backpack. It could be used in population dense areas without being a hazard. Mount one on each end of the motor/both sides of the backpack.

Dude, with a REALLY hefty motor and bigger prop, you can ski uphill! Let's see those gold-medal Olympic wusses do that! :) hehehe Just a little tip, not to be a nag, but you *really* should have a protective shroud around that prop. A neck strap for the transmitter ain't a half bad idea either. If you can stand the racket, a two-stroke aero engine is incredibly lightweight and produces lots of power. Even a good-size chainsaw engine is very light--and powerful. Have fun!

Can I ask what is your propeller diameter, Samm? I thought this may be a neat way to test a propeller out, but the propeller I am working on only spans 18 inches (3D model, please turn your speakers down kzbin.info/www/bejne/in6reWqApcZmma8). That motor is way out of my budget, but I will find workaround, I am sure. Arduino and lawnmower most likely. A personal ski lift...

I would have made a cage - wouldn't want to make contact with the spinning prop in a accident.
@SammSheperd7 жыл бұрын
Totally agree. I did do a lot of "what if" extreme flexing to see in what ways I might interfere with the prop arc. It was actually really hard to reach it. Of course anything that can happen will happen especially in a crash. I made my own risk assessment for to do what was filmed. My new frame has a cage, I'm editing that video right now.
