I am a 57 yr old golfer & have been searching golf vids, have not swung a bat for years. Teacherman kept coming up on my feed, and as I watched him talk about coiling around my back hip socket, i applied it on the range. No one has ever explained that coil as he did, and I am hitting the golf ball with more power, consistently, etc. fantastic teacher that also applies to golf!

His technique in golf would be a disaster. Snapping your wrists at the top is called casting the club and you would lose a lot of power. That said, his principles seem sound and solid for baseball.

Strongly agree with your approach with the bat's alignment to spine and forearm. Judge's alignment or connection (whatever you want to call it) at launch and at contact maintains those angles better than anyone. I still haven't felt that unloading of the leg from the tilt but I'm open to the idea.

Richard, My daughter’s coach is a Tony Gwynn guy. When he sees my daughter, or any of the other girls, supinate their hands and turn the barrel in an effort to duplicate your mechanics, he has a bit of a conniption fit! So, my daughter reverts back to her push swing . I really want her to commit but it is very difficult when her travel and high school coaches are proponents of Punch and Judy hitting. Any suggestions? Thank you

The "tilt" is the core extension that you see in all Power-C moves. (clean and press, snatch, javelin, discus) Contraction of the posterior chain with the slight distention of the anterior core is the prime driver (along with triple extension of the lower half) of the most powerful movements the human body is capable of making. I' m new to these videos, so not drinking the Kool-Aid quite yet, but makes more sense then most.

What sucks is that some of us in the 80s and 90s had so much garbage pushed on us that it's almost impossible to unlearn and do it right. I still played college ball and did pretty well but I still play in my 40s and am now hitting it better than I did when I was young. I just have to mentally lock into this method before each pitch or I default back to the muscle memory from bad coaching. The other week, I did this swing and was trying to check it but his am oppo double in the gap because I left the barrel in the zone and it still had power.

I agree with almost everything Rich is teaching, here. What I always find interesting is most great modern hitters have mechanics like this, but then guys like Hank Aaron (one of history's greatest hitters) and some other old time greats, literally do everything that even little league coaches would cringe at. Hank was always way out on his front foot, super pushy swing, and rolled over badly. Maybe the strike zone was higher in those days. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Excellent! The proof is in the pudding. It works with our players. 100%… I said it before and I’ll say it again clinics are a waste of time IF they don’t have some one to help them when they go home and struggle with what was taught at the clinic. Unfortunately players need that 1 on 1 for several lessons until they’re good enough to maintain it on their own.

@Joos-676

But Rich the swing plane is on an upward trajectory. I know that’s what you u are saying but saying you are swing down on the ball got me confused for a second because we actually swing in an upward trajectory. Only way to square up a pitch being thrown from an elevated mound to a squatting catcher is to come out up through the ball slightly.
@rms5654
@rms5654 Жыл бұрын
If you grip the bat with your door knocking knuckles(like Aaron Judge) and cocked wrists, you get on plane just as quick with a hammering motion without supinating your wrist unnaturally.
@rickwebermusic
@rickwebermusic Жыл бұрын
Exactly. In addition, this guy's method causes the front side to fly open- which pulls the hitter's off-plane and significantly reduces vision. Yes, this technique generates a ton of power, but it also makes hitters extremely easy to strike out. Hitters of the previous generation knew how to generate quickness and power without sacrificing as much contact, and they were much better overall hitters than what we're seeing today.

Think of dipping the shoulder as a result of your power move... it is not dipping but a powerful tilting of the torso. Ted Williams does it as well. He sets up front shoulder down back shoulder up...(haven't heard this from Richard in a while) why? So you can generate that strong tilt that CAUSES your back shoulder to drop. Williams back shoulder is lower than the front almost immediately... this tilt motion is much stronger AND QUICKER than a twist or simple rotation. Try it yourself!!!
@jwdiho
@jwdiho Жыл бұрын
Problem is this tilt alone DOES NOT fully describe the rest of the swing. Front leg block and ground forces absolutely complete the picture.... thats why Richard's videos and Ted williams look so contradictory.... but they do share some key points.

The "Whip" is actually the bat dragging. In no way shape or form should the barrel be wrapped around your neck as he demonstrates. Look carefully at a full speed swing, he swings up through the ball. Of course it works for Judge, he's a freak of nature with herculean srength, he can get away with it. The avg kid cannot perform this consistently and cover the whole strike. It's almost impossible to hit a ball up in the zone with your hands starting low, and with the "tilt" of the bat the entire outer 1/2 of the plate is exposed creating easy flaired foul balls and pop ups. Any decent pitcher can expose this on a consistent basis.
