In this video I mess around with a casting drill that I like to do that is also something of a trick cast if you get good at it, but the overall message is that if you invest time off the water getting comfortable with your gear, it will pay huge dividends on the water.

Great Advice - the northwoods legend who taught me how to fish also agreed with developing proficiency by having me place a hula hoop at various distances and developing proficiency at each distance until 90% of my casts would land in the hula hoop. I still do this every spring to become more proficient. It has paid off because when on the water most (90%) of my casts are placed right where I want them. The result: I catch a lot more fish than anglers who aren't very proficient.

Fun Video, Thx. Beginner to beginner advice when out fishing and you change lures and/or poles take a few safer shorter adjustment cast to let your muscle memory sync up with the change in weight and movement of the new setup. Being overly anxious to get the next cast out I learned this the hard way.

I grew up on a very dirty river, Casting 3 feet of line with worms/grubs, Casting hard only lost bait. Now I comeback to find over 20 years my river is now clean, With bass and pike, I can't believe my eyes. So now after all these years I have to learn how to cast like a grown up, Either way I'm bringing bourbon and we can blame it on that!

Have you ever done any pitching from a seated position in the kayak? I have an Ocean Kayak Trident 13, I can stand in it but not as stable as I would like. Love this video, I practice my casting all the time in the yard, never had a volunteer help me. :D

Chad I was wondering what you would do? I live in mn and it's starting to cool off up here. I normally fish morning bite and rarely do an evening bite. Water temps are cold in morning and warming by afternoon. Wondering if you think the evening bite would be best with a warm fronts rolling through 60-70. Thinking warmer water in evening the big girls moving. Thoughts?

I'm not sure what was better the tips about being proficient or placing it between the girls, or giving your buddy a little nut tap. Great video and great points.

Becuase it makes it less likely that you will backlash, it will be less severe if you do and it if you don’t use them at all you aren’t getting the maximum performance from your reel.

I don’t know how else to say it. But the jokes that you have are funny if you’re with a group of guys in a shop somewhere. They come home funny whenever my kids look over and ask what he’s talking about. Because he’s acting inappropriately on this forum. I like you and I have followed you for sometime, but I’ve noticed more and more of this sort of behavior. Just want you to be aware.

The saying shouldn't be "Practice makes perfect," it ought to be as my music teacher yelled at us when we mess up a note; "PRACTICE MAKES PERMANENT!!!!!!!"
