Waaaaaw. I needed this. Timing is everything. U can have all the proper components of the mechanics but if the timing is off u will be hitting all over the place and sometimes your eyes deceives u and u think u got the timing but not again. With this tips it gives u more things to verify your positiong and timing. Like when he says for the forehand he drops the racket and start to move as soon as the ball hits the ground. When I play next time I will try to use these tips

Coach, what I like about this video is how you reason it out for the approaches you are coaching with. It makes us remember the technique more compared to simply teaching step by step approach. Hats off! 👏👏 And a BIG thank you for your efforts.

Side by side comparison is so exciting. Maybe we can do side by side of topspin forehand compared to a flat forehand.
@nicholasnemeroff9588
@nicholasnemeroff9588 Жыл бұрын
1. Does the height of the racket have anything to do with the forehand drop beginning earlier? Higher take back, more time to drop? 2. If the drop is faster on two handed backhand, why are pros hitting forehands harder? 3. If forehand drop begins when the ball bounces, are players taking the forehand earlier? Do players hit the backhand more as the ball is dropping if they start the downswing at the apex of the bounce?

@giannismourat

Very interesting observation... basically this means that forehand motion requires more time to complete since racket drop (and also why it is more powerful). It is a thing that bothered me for quite some time, I could not understand why I was late in the forehand at fast incoming balls while never had this problem at backhand. Now I know it is very natural and an earlier swing is required at forehand.
@2MinuteTennis
@2MinuteTennis 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. It only takes more time for maximum power. You can shorten it to make it like the bh easily. Like on return of serve. But on balls you can really load up on…you are correct.
@giannismourat
@giannismourat 2 жыл бұрын
@@2MinuteTennis thanks for the answer, I find it much more difficult to shorten the swing in forehand (and still have a solid contact point) than in backhand. Maybe this is due to the more straightforward movement of the backhand or maybe it has to do with my forehand technique. I d like to now if others have the same problem.

Please compare timing and forehand and one-handed backhand. That will definitely be interesting. For example, Wawrinka. Otherwise a great tip.

If you were to use a neutral stance where you move forward and don’t have much coil and hip rotation, would it be more like the backhand timing? Does the idea of the forehand taking longer only apply to using open or semi open stances? Or all? Thanks great video, unique idea

Great Ryan. Is this tip solely for power or also for consistency? My concern with the relatively later racket head movement on the BH that this would be more prone to mishits (but maybe this is an acceptable trade-off when looking for some pace?)
@2MinuteTennis
@2MinuteTennis 2 жыл бұрын
This is how to time the shot. This isn’t how to get power. It’s how to time the backhand. Both side have different timing. This is how to time the shots.

Oscar Wegner always teaches to count to 5 (quickly 1-2-3-4-5) where 1 is on the bounce and 5 is at impact. It’s a great way to show when to start the swing and also shows you that you usually have more time than you think after the bounce.
@thereisnogod3924
@thereisnogod3924 2 жыл бұрын
not quickly but with the speed of the ball, so the slower the ball then you count slower and your swing will be slower

Hey Ryan, don't 1-handed BHs require a contact point farther in front than 2-handed BHs, and therefore the timing is more similar to hitting a FH? I've got a 1-handed BH, and just like my FH, I time everything (preparation, racquet drop, forward acceleration) off of the bounce. Can you make video showing the 1-handed BH timing?

I do struggle with the fh seperation. If i try the thing you showed that my hitting hand is catching up with non-hitting arm i lose all power. But when i dont seperate my arms too much(feels like im catching my racqet in front of body not of the side) im getting more power and consistency.
